Eyedropper picks the color of the antialiased edge of a stroke blended with the background instead of the actual stroke color
Eyedropper requires a ton of precision when picking a color of s stroke.
Watch the GIF.
Here I have violet and green lines, drawn above a raster image.I’ve mistaken and used green color instead of violet, and now I want to pick it from the existing line.
I click, precise enough (I hope), but the color picked — the almost correct violet (C74,95 M74,61 — instead of the global 75-75) — is not in the background at all. It’s a BLENDED color of the RENDERED anti-aliased EDGE of the stroke! So Ai secretly rasterizes what it sees and then…

Toggling Layer Visibility now Lags Greatly with each New Layer Added after introduction of Search to Layers
In May 2022 (before Search Layers was added for example) you could have a file with 2600 layers and toggle the visibility on and off in less than a second. Now in June 2023 the same type of file takes 30 seconds to toggle the visibility of a single layer.
Here's how to reproduce the BUG that has been introduced into ILLUSTRATOR now:
I'm using a - Windows 10 Desktop
Illustrator v 27.6.1
ASUS Laptop with 40 GB of RAM
1TB SSD drives and plenty of scratch disk and page file space.Reproduction Steps:
- create a new Illustrator document 1920x1080

At the test setup it now takes roughly 1 second to hide and show layers.

Ink value changes to 0 while adjusting color
When selecting multiple items with a different color mix, values changes to 0 when adjusting a single ink while it shouldn't change. In older versions this doesn't occur.
In the screencap, the Cyan value changes to 0 so the colormix changes completely.
Operation version: MacoOS Ventura 13.2.1
Version Illustator: 27.3.14 votesWe have fixed the issue and a build with the fix is available in Beta.

Straight lines don’t allow to add points to their centers / middles
So, I created a square, changed the line brush with something else, and then cut the 4 corners with scissor tool. Then, if I select the add anchor point tool, and click in the EXACT MIDDLE of the newly created line (which I cut from the square), it will not allow me to do so. It's just saying you only can add anchor point on the path line.
Please help me Adobe...
4 votesThis is fixed in the latest Beta Build 29.5.0.15 — now straight lines allow to add a point at the center positions. Please check if this now behaves as expected and comment back.
However, the team didn’t make it into the snapping feature requested in comments — to be able to snap to middles of any segment, curved or straight. If you need one, please upvote this split request.

Centre Points of all objects are visible when I reopen files
Illustrator 30.0 on Mac Ventura 13.7.8
Each time I reopen a file in which I had a mix of objects with either visible or hidden centre points, most of these are visible (at least, those of paths, guides…) and they can get in the way.
I think this started happening with the new version 30.0 (or maybe just the one before).
Here are examples of 2 similar files, one with and one without all Centre Points showing.
3 votesThe team tried to fix this in Beta 30.1.0.109. The latest one is 30.2.0.12.
If you can — please try to use Beta and see if no centers will be enabled or disabled when reopening a file. The fix won’t remove those that are already in a document, so we need to to toggle them manually in the Attributes panel.

When moving object it counts as hundreds of inputs, filling the history
When you move an object with the mouse, it seems to consider each pixel or so it moves as an individual input, so if you just quickly drag something, your history is completely filled and it is impossible to undo enough to undo the single move. It also shows up as 'Undo' in the history tab rather than 'move' - only the final one is considered 'move'.

Illustrator 28.4 does not preserve SVG object hierarchy
Starting with Illustrator 28.4, the object hierarchy is not preserved when saving and re-opening an SVG file. Many groups are created for no apparent reason.
See this link for examples: https://community.adobe.com/t5/illustrator-discussions/illustrator-28-4-svg-export-does-not-preserve-hierarchy/td-p/14871718#M3695
This makes Illustrator completely impractical for editing SVG files. I will have to stay at 28.3 until this error is fixed.
3 votesThe team has verified this current problem to be a regression break and intends to push the fix into the next Beta build.

The team expects it to be fixed with the latest Beta 28.8.0.19.
Please try to install it and see if it works as intended.
Please comments back either way.

Clipping Path Dimensions disregarded when exporting JPG in version 28.5
When using "File -> Export As" to create a JPG of your illustrator document, the size of the JPG includes artwork hidden by a clipping path and adds white space. Attached is an example where I've exported a JPG from versions 28.4.1 and 28.5. The JPG from version 28.5 added additional white space to the left, right, and top edges where artwork was hidden by a clipping path. This is not how Illustrator behaved previously. Is there a workaround?
3 votesThis is a bug similar to that one:
Rasterizing a clipped image/group of objects results in extra white space in the resulting image — https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/601447/suggestions/35245114
Both are fixed in the latest Beta build and are expected to be pushed into 28.6 GA build.

Placing an SVG file with View->Snap to Pixel enabled distorts the image
If I place an SVG file with View->Snap to Pixel enabled, some of the coordinates are displaced. See uploaded example, produced using version 28.3 (64-bit) on Windows 11. Unfortunately, the uservoice website won't let me upload a sample file.

Illustrator 27.9 introduces severe choppiness when panning with fingers on trackpad rather than Hand tool
When panning with the Hand tool, performance remains intact and panning is smooth. When using trackpad or mouse to move the canvas, frame rate is severely low, 10 fps, even on an empty document. This is a new issue that has existed in the past but had been resolved sometime in the past year or two.
Using a MacBook Pro with M2 Max 38-core GPU running macOS Ventura 13.5.2, the latest as of now.
This issue reduces efficiency and hampers productivity, making it unpleasant to navigate small documents and impossible to navigate large ones with multiple dartboards.
Uninstalling and re-installing…
3 votesThe fix to this issue is available in Beta 28.1 21 (and above) and Prerelease 28.0.66 (and above). Please check, if you can, and reply back if it works for you.

Insufficient data for an image
Saving as .PDF from .AI gives me this warning if I am using any type of image (.JPG, .PSD, .TIFF, .PSB) over 100MBs. When the PDF starts to open in Acrobat the warning comes up.
Machine: Mac Studio 13.5.1 (22G90)
Illustrator 27.8.1I solved the problem by going back to version 27 and exporting one of the files that I was having issues with.

Documents preview not updated properly in Indesign
When I save an Illustrator file, import it into Indesign, then make changes to the file, save it again and update the link in Indesign, some parts are not updated in the preview (see attached image). This doesn't happen every time, seemingly at random.
I have resolved this by first saving as an older version and then again as latest version, but that's not a real solution.
Somebody told me to uncheck 'Save in background' in settings, this also solved the problem but again, is not a real solution.I have this problem simultaneously with the (already known) problem where…

Finder Apps and Adobe Bridge no longer open Adobe Illustrator
Something changed with the last update that altered the default association between Illustrator files and the application. I first noticed it when my barcode app failed to launch Illustrator upon export—something that had been working perfectly for years. Then, I encountered the same issue in Adobe Bridge: every time I double-click a .ai file, it simply won’t open.
After investigating, I discovered that the default file association for .ai files had been changed to something called IllustratorDiagnosys (see screenshot). Manually changing this back to Adobe Illustrator within Bridge resolved the issue inside that app, but external applications and links are…

AI 29.1 - Missing New Help Bar
The 29.1 update is supposed to have a new Menu Bar under Window->Help Bar but it's not there.
Using macOS Sonoma 15.1.1
2 votesHelp Bar is available only in the latest Beta (starting with 29.2) and Prerelease builds so far. As soon as the team decides it’s ready to be pushed into main build, you’ll be able to get it. At the moment you can install Beta build from CCD app, or just wait.

Livetracing Bitmaps gives results with random shades of black
Up until recently, if I used the Livetrace and Expand command on a bitmap it would produce results with only pure white and pure black, as you would expect. Now it randomly assigns values to every piece of what should be black. Instead of 100% black they are 99.29% or 99.67%. Normally I would select one piece, select all by color and move it. Now I need to click on every single piece and apply black to them. Very tedious.
2 votesKeith, the team reverted the Image Trace panel back to the more stable version. If you use 27.7 version, you can try to update to Beta, or revert to the older version, or wait until the Beta version will go stable.

Moving an object manually to align with another object, moves the wrong object
Quite often, when moving an object to snap to another object or anchor point, the moved object jumps back to its original position while the other object or even sometimes an anchor point makes the move instead

Illustrator 30.0 (2026) .ai files open at 1/10 scale in Adobe Acrobat and RIP software (Onyx) – large artboards only
This issue is affecting multiple users in our environment with the following setups:
Hardware: Apple Mac Studio (M1 and M2)
OS: macOS Sequoia (and possibly the prior macOS version – behavior appears on machines that have not yet updated as well)
Adobe Illustrator (desktop): 30.0 (2026 release)
For the time being, we have reverted back to Illustrator 2025 where the same workflow works correctly.
Basically:
When we save .ai files with large artboards from Illustrator 30.0 (2026) and then open those files in our printer RIP software (Onyx), the artwork does not come in at the correct size. Instead, it…
