I agree with Egor, it can be easily reproduced by goin to preferences, hit a letter, hit OK to close the preferences. The units turn to pt, the Type settings become minimal.

    My defaults are:
    Size/Leading: 2 pt
    Tracking: 20/1000 em
    Baseline Shift: 2 pt
I did not check them when I had the problem, this is after resetting Preferences. I'll check when the problem returns.

Could be Mac specific, that's what we are using. But did you check in Preferences "Move Locked and Hidden Artwork with Artboard" ?

The Units setting in your Preferences will change when you create a New Document with a different setting, it will change to the setting of that document (and that has been like that for ages).

Still there after 5 years. The grayscale image has to be a flat image without transparency and has to be embedded in an RGB Document.

The "In a CMYK document embedded greyscale images become lighter" problem seems solved in the 2025 version, but can be repeated in 2024.

An error occurred while saving the comment

Looks like the greyscale image when embedded is converted to RGB in the PDF.

Because a bug has only 2 votes, it should not be ignored. 2024 still the same problem.

Thanks Ankit! Works as expected in the 29.9.14 beta. No more warning on creating file/swatches, no more spot/global converted to None.

You already get a warning that there is something wrong when you have Color Settings > Missing Profiles: Ask When Opening checked. When you create a new Global or Spot Swatch you will get the "The document does not have an embedded CMYK profile" alert (even in an RGB document).

    Hello all,

The 'Apply to all' checkbox has been brought back in the Replace missing link dialogue.

'Apply to all' checkbox was removed when we introduced the 'Auto-relink' (search for missing links in this folder) functionality, as we though 'auto-relink' is going to take care of the 'replace all' workflow as well. But it didn't work as expected in few cases as pointed out by some of you.

Hence, with the latest release V29.2 (full roll out happens on Jan 9), we have decided to revert to the earlier experience whereby we are bringing back 'apply to all' checkbox and rolling back the 'auto-relink functionality.

Because of conflicts, both of these functionality cannot co-exist unless we make some significant changes to the relinking experience.

As we understand, 'replace all' was a important workflow for most of you, so we decided to quickly bring it back while working on the overall…

Mark, which version do you use? It shows the Apply to All option when you open a file with missing links.

Josh, I know, but it is back now.

If the linked files are missing because the original folder has been renamed or moved, and the links are in the same folder, it works when you click Replace and select a missing file in the new location. All files are found. If the missing links are in different folders, you need to repeat the locating.
The other scenario; replace multiple copies of the same missing image with a different image works fine if you check the Apply to All checkbox that appears when opening the file, click Replace and point to whatever file you want.
This is how it works on my Mac.
But I prefer the InDesign way; controlling and replacing links from the Links panel.

Josh, I don't think so, but you can install an older version of Illustrator: 2023 (28.4.1), a version that still has the Apply to All option:
In the Creative Cloud app select Apps > All Apps > Illustrator > click the 3 dots … next to the Open button > click Other Versions and select 28.4.1. Click Install.

In the meantime I recommend installing 28.4.1 next to the current version. 28.4.1 still has the Apply to All option that let you replace all instances of a missing link by a different one.

Maybe this script will help untill it is solved.
When opening a file, click Ignore All
In the links panel, select the missing links to be replaced.
Click the Go to link button to select them on the artboard.
Download and run this script: https://shared-assets.adobe.com/link/476cf98b-768b-409f-6526-d6353e453ad8

Here is how it worked before the update. If Illustrator cannot find a file and you want to replace it by some other file, check Apply to All, locate the new file and click Replace.

We finally got the control over the active artboard border color.

In Beta 30.1.0.89, in Preferences > Selection & Anchor Display, in the new Artboard Display section, we now can choose the color and the border width in pixels — black, 1 px by default, as usual. We can set it 4 px maximum

The border tries to get aligned by center, but stays pixel-perfect, so choosing 3 is safe. Color choices are the same as we get with layers’ colors, with a custom option as well.

There’s no way to tweak inactive artboards’ borders. Please comment if this solution is working for you and if there’s anything you need to have it perfect.

Starting with Beta 29.7.1 the Rearrange dialog got a separate dedicated feature, currently called 'Align Manually'.

With it disabled, artboards get positioned instantly in the center of the canvas, as it behaved previously.

When this is enabled, you will enter the positioning mode after pressing OK — to allow rearranging only some artboards, to address this request.

With more than 1 artboard selected (but not all), the mode gets enabled automatically (and becomes locked).

Unfortunately the 29.7 version does not always align the artboards to the pixelgrid. When after aligning the ruler origin is reset, the others do align too.

    Ton commented  ·

The 29.7 version has the previous behaviour.

    Ton commented  ·

The easiest way to align artboards to the pixelgrid (to avoid additional pixels on image export) was to use rearrange artboards, it automatically aligned them. Now it takes extra steps and even makes artboards that were perfectly aligned contain fractional x/y values.
