The problem no longer happens in latest releases, like 26 and 27.
An error occurred while saving the comment An error occurred while saving the comment Finally, somebody reported this except me!
This is a known bug now, and I can tell you exactly hot to reproduce it.
Avoid selecting segments with no point included in a compound path in isolation mode with deleting it next. -

Not sure if I get it.
Are you sure you mean Shaper tool, not Shape Builder tool?
Because Shaper tool does not make a selection of the drawn shapes. Shaper Builder though — does.
How do you switch to the Smooth tool after using the other one?
By default Smooth tool is placed in the same tool slot as the Shaper (not Shape Builder), and once you click-and-hold the tool slot to access hidden Smooth tool — indeed, the selection gets dropped.
Can someone here record a short video of the issue?

Please get in touch with us at any of the other support channels – https://helpx.adobe.com/support.html . Since this is not a generic issue that we can reproduce at our end, we will need someone to look into your machine to figure out what is going on here.
Warm Regards,

An error occurred while saving the comment lz, do you use any third-party plugins? or does it happen for you with the stock Ai?
Indeed, I had the same problem with plugins.
If you had some plugins installed, which had their own tools, and the plugins are not supported by a new version of Illustrator (or were not installed), Ai gives you an error and can’t load tool panels at all (or loads them every second time).
Sometimes panels are not even listed in the menu, and another time they do get loaded, but without missing tools.
Even if you install plugins back — panels don’t get fixed, they are broken forever, and there is no other way to restore them, except for creating anew (or directly editing Tools Panel Presets, which is not an intended way for sure).

An error occurred while saving the comment Recent versions of Illustrator do have a way to change the vertical alignment, in Type > Area Type Options dialog (it is named wrong, though, 'Horizontal' instead of 'Vertical', and there is a bug report about fixing it: https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/601447-illustrator-desktop-bugs/suggestions/45711817-area-type-options-align-is-mislabeled-should-say)
Buttons though are indeed missing from the Paragraph panel.

An error occurred while saving the comment I wonder what is meant exactly — an ability to use Braille fonts from the box, or a general accessibility for visually impaired users? Please elaborate on this, this is an important topic indeed.

An error occurred while saving the comment I’d even prefer it as just Alt, to match Photoshop, and have Opt/Alt+Shift as Smooth instead.
Sure Ai should allow both ways, because some users are very much used to have Smooth accessible with Opt/Alt.

An error occurred while saving the comment A general workaround to this is to Unembed your placed image and then Edit it in Photoshop.
If you don’t plan to have a complex layer structure in a raster image and keep it flattened, you might want to try a paid plugin, Rasterino by Astute Graphics, which allows to edit and update embedded images without unembedding them.
An error occurred while saving the comment Please be more specific.
What Subject tracing? You mean Select Subject command? What are you going to do with it in vector program?
What brush tools? Raster brush tools in vector design program? Like Affinity Designer does?
If you want something like in Photoshop, use Photoshop.Layer Finder though, is a great thing to have, yes.
You should add your vote to one of existing request about it here:

An error occurred while saving the comment The latest Ai version has a Share button which allows to export a copy of you document for review, with comments and pins. It’s not exactly what you’ve asked for, but perhaps this might suite you better.
