    This is still a thing. There are other forum posts regarding this problem. Here's how to reproduce. This happens on all of our machine.

    Step 1: Install at least two versions of illustrator.
    Step 2: Enable the preview tab in Window Explorer and verify that AI files will preview as normal.
    Step 3: Uninstall all older version of Illustrator, leave the current version.
    Step 4: See that now windows explorer will no longer preview AI files in the preview pane of windows explorer because the preview handler was removed by the uninstall of the older version.

    Note, this issue is reproducible, it happens to multiple people in this office. When we upgrade to a major new version of AI, we usually keep the old version installed just in case the newer version has issues. When anyone eventually uninstalls the older version, the windows preview handler gets removed even though the newer version of AI is still installed.

    To reproduce:
    Install the latest *two* versions of illustrator.
    uninstall the older version and windows preview handler gets removed.

    Some add'l improvements that would be greatly appreciated:
    • Higher precision settings. At least to 1/8" but 1/16" would be great as well.
    • More formatting options for foot inch/ e.g. 7" instead of 0'-7"
    • Dimension text centered with the dimensions line as option, with a break in the line to accommodate the text.
    • Scale options (custom as well) in architectural format in addition to engineering format (e.g. 1/2" = 1'-0" in addition to 1:24)
    • Options to show dimension text rotated 90° - separate options for vertical, vs horizontal dimensions.
    • For "Line Type", give us all the standard stroke options.
    • Add an option to dimension a center line - centerline line style - maybe as an option key when pulling the dimension to turn it on/off for one or both of the extension lines.

    Thank you for finally adding this as an alternative to expensive plugins! It is greatly appreciated!

    It is possible now to set up a custom scale in Ai Beta 28.4.0.2.

    In Dimension Tool Options dialog open the Scale dropdown and choose custom to get the Custom Scale dialog.

    It works for decimal scales only, like 1:12 or 1:15, but not for Imperial scales like 1/16"

    Please try it and comment back.

    The Beta 28.4.0.7 now create live dimension objects, that track and follow the changes to the measured objects: resizing, rotating, moving...

    As for now, moving only dimension breaks the link and expands the dimension (hopefully will change, and break the link only).

    Moving an object with its related dimension currently expand the dimension as well (hopefully won’t do it either).

    Please test the change and share feedback — it helps a lot!

    PLEASE ensure this is made into an option that can be turned off. We need the dimensions to NOT be live.

    It's a pain in the backside to have to unembed, edit, and then re-embed images! Adobe, please add this functionality.

    Please add a read/write property to selected objects for the current key object in a selection.

    e.g.:

    app.activeDocument.selection.keyObjectIndex = 3;

    or

    app.activeDocument.selection[3].isKeyObject = true;

    etc...

    Still happening to a bunch of us in the office after 27.7 update. I tried following the userdump instructions but maybe they are different on windows 11 now? Can't find the dump files but I'm happy to share them if I can find them.
