Mr. Ponce supported this idea ·An error occurred while saving the comment Mr. Ponce commentedI just upgraded to MacOS Monterrey and I am having the same issue. The flyout/context menu appears in random locations but never next to the curser where it is expected. On a two monitor setup it is even more frustrating.
I did notice that if I turn on Application Frame the issue is resolved, but that is not a viable solution for my work flow on two monitors.
Running: MacOS Monterey 12.3.1 on a MacBook Pro 16" 2019 with Illustrator 26.1.

An error occurred while saving the comment Mr. Ponce commentedHigh rez monitors (4k and up) are here to stay. They are the new norm for high end users of Illustrator. Adobe has to get on the bandwagon and fix all the issues associated with high rez monitors. This is not the only issue related to that thus far .. and they continue to pile up.
Instead of fixing these issue they continue to add unpolished buggy features.
Illustrator is now turning into bloatware ... It may be time to start looking for an alternative.
Mr. Ponce supported this idea ·An error occurred while saving the comment Mr. Ponce commentedThe selection accuracy of both the arrow tools and the text tools is not very accurate and hence quite annoying now. Illustrator 2017 didn't have this issue. I can clearly see that I'm clicking on the intended object, but illustrator selects the object next to it. It is as if clicking on the object with a "fat finger". The same thing happens with the text selection tool.
As a technical illustrator, I like to keep the accuracy of selection to a fine level.
To work around this issue I have to zoom in more than expected. I have adjusted the selection tolerance several times, but I keep experiencing the same error/annoyance.
Question: Could it be that the Retina 5k display has something to do with this issue?
Computer: iMac Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2017
Illustrator 2018: Adobe Illustrator CC 2018 22.1.0Three images attached:
1) tried to select a line and the dot to the left was selected
2) tried to select the text and the circle around the text was converted to text on a path
3) tried to select the text and the dimension line was converted to text on a pathIn all cases the cursor is clearly not on the wrong object. During selection was zoomed in to 200% on a drawing which is drawn to HALF scale.

There are now several separate requests made, based on the feedback in this thread:
1. Regarding adjustable color and opacity for 3D shadows:
https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/47054086
2. Regarding presets for each tab in 3D and Materials panels: Object, Materials, Lighting:
http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/47350001
All those who commented on the topic until October 16, 2023, are already added as voters there. If this is something you want to have for 3D and Materials in Illustrator — please upvote it. If possible — create new requests and bug reports about 3D, rather than commenting here inside. This will help the team to better prioritize efforts on making the feature better. As always — thanks for the feedback! It helps.
An error occurred while saving the comment Mr. Ponce commentedThere definitely has to be a toggle that turns off the renderer while you make some edits to the base shape. Otherwise the renderer get in the way of minor edits so much so that it gets slow and frustrating.
An error occurred while saving the comment Mr. Ponce commentedThe materials pallet should definitely be part of the 3d Effects pallets.
Most 3D rendering software allows you to edit the material and shows you a thumbnail of what the material will look like without having to apply it to an object.
The materials pallet should have similar functionality to the swatch pallet where we can add and save customers colors ... we should be able to add and save custom materials into the materials pallet as well and give them custom names.
How do we create a set of preferred materials which we use often and have them load when we need them in a new illustrator file?
The materials pallet and the editor still have a very clunky feel to them.
Adding a material to a 2D object automatically adds a 3D Effect to its Appearance without any rotation or extrusion. This is a nice feature.
3D Effect pallet: Rotate a slider would definitely be better than the dropdown menu. Think about adding the simple rotate visual cue like the classic 3D.
Looks like you would want to set everything up before you apply materials. Applying materials and then rotating, extruding, etc. makes things really slow.
Lighting: need the ability to add more lights.
In the appearance pallet the 3D Effect should have a toggle that show what material is applied and have the ability to remove it there. It is counter intuitive to have the remove material from effect in the materials pallet.
Some material are not seamless. Seamless material is expected. In this type of application, not having seamless materials is kinda of a no no.
The cast shadow should not have highlights as if its reflecting light. It should be blending into the background.
An error occurred while saving the comment Mr. Ponce commentedFirst knee-jerk reactions:
1) The new rendering mode is more realistic than the past, but the "High" is not high enough. It's much too grainy in some cases. I would expect the the colors on the text or object be more line the previous 3D Effect: clean and flat and the shadow onto the background be smoother.
2) One of the things that we do the most is to expand the appearance so that we can better tweak the faces of the rendering. We can't do the here since it generate an image and not vector artwork.
3) Color rendering is better in the new 3D. I did have to make the white more gray to have not get blown out too much and have the shadows on the sides be more prominent. On the classic 3D we always have to come back and adjust the colors or add more lights in shading.
4) Like the new bevel effects and ability to adjust the angles directly in the artboard.
5) I typically use the 3D effect for a quick setup when I do not have time to go into SketchUp. SkecthUp has some really nice rendering engine plugins that produce very realistic images ... so in a pinch the AI 3D effect works great, but for pro quality I will continue to take it into SketchUp.
I believe that the best outcome would be to combine both the Classic 3D with the new 3D such the there is flexibility to expand the appearance. I much prefer the clean look of the classic with the ability to expand the appearance. The classic 3D is more flexible for further enhancements and editing.
Will keep looking at it.

An error occurred while saving the comment Mr. Ponce commentedIt is indeed broken; when text is inside a small circle the text tool cursor wants to select the circle and not the text although you are clearly right over the text. I have to zoom in considerably to select the text.
Same for text on a dimension line on measurements. To select the text with the text tool I have to zoom in otherwise it will select the dimension line.

Please get in touch with us at any of the other support channels – https://helpx.adobe.com/support.html . Since this is not a generic issue that we can reproduce at our end, we will need someone to look into your machine to figure out what is going on here.

Hi,
Apologies for the inconvenience caused to you due to this issue and getting back to you this late.
We are unable to reproduce this issue in house. Can you help the Illustrator team to isolate this issue further so that we can nail this down?
If yes, then please let me know the following:
1)Is this Issue still happening on your machine on Latest version 23.0.3 ?
2)Can you kindly provide Test File via (File→Package)and open Info Panel & provide some video while repeating steps with which you are facing this issue and share with us.
It will help us to understand your issue more clearly and we can investigate this further.Kindly share the requested information at ShareWithAI@adobe.com in a Zip file.
Please mention the title of this issue as the subject of the mail.An error occurred while saving the comment Mr. Ponce commentedThe selection accuracy is now a fairly big problem in the latest version of Illustrator. I keep running into this same issue. Furthermore, it is not only text. When I try to select an object a nearby object is selected instead. I can see clearly that my cursor is right over the object that I wish to select and it still selects another. I believe that these two bugs are clearly related and very annoying.

The solution is pushed into Global Availability build 28.6.
The Previewed Page is now the default option for the dialog.
Here is an updated Help article:https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/using/importing-pdf-files.html
Congratulations, folks! Took us 5.5 years to get it!
An error occurred while saving the comment Mr. Ponce commentedThe status says "Resolved", but I'm unsure of if the resolution actually alleviates one of the original frustrations. To reiterate, when we page through the thumbnails, the range should automatically update to list the number depicted by the current thumbnail ... i.e. no further user input should be necessary. This should be the default behavior. If the user wants a particular sequence of pages or a range, then the user proceeds to input that information into the range field.
Hence the current resolution posted by "Ashutosh Chaturvedi" only addresses the second issue but leaves the first primary issue unresolved.
An error occurred while saving the comment Mr. Ponce commentedYes, the new behavior is counter intuitive and frustrating.

I am happy to share that we have fixed this bug in our latest release – 23.0.6 which is available worldwide now.
Going forward, our goal is to fix as many top User-Voice bugs as possible and as frequently as possible. Given the nature of the fixes, some of the bugs will take a longer time to fix, but we are on it.
You can update to the latest release using Creative Cloud desktop App: https://helpx.adobe.com/in/creative-cloud/help/creative-cloud-updates.html
Thank you for all the feedback. Keep it coming!

Starting to think this issue will never be fixed. We keep getting Illustrator updates with new unless features, but the some of the core functionality is now lagging and need attention.
Using the Application frame to fix this issue in a non-starter form our work flow. I've been working in Illustrator for more than 20 years and these last few years have been the worst in maintenance. I'm loosing hope in Illustrator.
