New text box appearing on clicking in current text box
When you click in a text box with the type tool, it'll create a new text box unless you click on the actual word you want to modify. Or if you are trying to add something to the end of your text and click like a millimeter off the letter, it'll create a new text box.
This is super annoying and I'm not quite sure why this function is necessary. It didn't use to be like this until the last update. Please look at this for the next update for those who use a lot of text in Illustrator.
Thank you

Was this resolved? We are noticing it now in Illustrator 2022

I was working out of 2017 and moved to version 2022. Now the text tool is behaving incorrectly. While editing text, clicking outside of the text area will make a new line of text. In 2017 (AND ALL PREVIOUS VERSIONS) the text tool would simply move the cursor the far left or right of the selected text.

I am getting the same problem. Any solution to this? It's year 2021 now, and I am sure there's a solution to this by now.

The escape button does not work (is not there at all) on the touch bar on 24.0.3. When you are in tool-free mode, you cannot escape out of a text box any longer because the esc button is missing completely from the touch bar.

I have the same issue. I am forever accidentally creating new text boxes, when I am trying to edit existing text. This is time consuming and very irritating.
Was there ever a fix for this?

The selection accuracy is now a fairly big problem in the latest version of Illustrator. I keep running into this same issue. Furthermore, it is not only text. When I try to select an object a nearby object is selected instead. I can see clearly that my cursor is right over the object that I wish to select and it still selects another. I believe that these two bugs are clearly related and very annoying.

I agree this is happening to my entire team since our upgrade to cc18. even after you double click into a word to edit it- somehow it jumps back out of the word when you try to slide-highlight the sentence to edit and creates a separate box.
the only fix is to zoom way in on the text and go back into the text again, and also delete the text box you just created just beside the original text. I don use lore Epsom so these are hard for me to see if I am creating them all over the place.
