graph type preview checkbox
It would be nice to add a Preview checkbox to the Panel that you get when using Object > Graph > Type… , Object > Graph > Design… , Object > Graph > Colum… and Object > Graph > Marker…
After 35years this should be possible.

Implement a "quit function" command
Often there is no way to quit an intense function that is taking too long to complete. One needs to quit the entire program in order to get it to stop. Why isn't there a "quit function" command that immediately overides all other processes and stops the function that is not working?

Combine all Thumbnail Preview Options
There are multiple ways to remove thumbnail previews on the Layers, Appearance and Links palettes and these have to be set on every file.
As a huge drag on screen redraw performance, these should be a single option / button accessible without going into the prefs panel.
Perhaps with an opt-out tick box per palette to fine tune. For example: Users could have thumbs persist on the layers palette, while the others toggle on a button.

PNG options, add resolution 96dpi
I believe we first had the resolutions 72, 150 and 300 in the PNG options dialog. Now I see 4, 18 and 36 have been added. A frequently used resolution that is missing is 96dpi. Please add.

Please add legacy menus and tools as a workspace
Please, please add legacy menus and tools as an option for a workspace. I have been using AI 3 for years on my old G5 and recently went to a new iMac and bought the full line monthly for all Adobe programs. Acrobat is so much better, PS is tolerable, but AI is near impossible! Everything has moved, the tools react differently and I'm having a heck of a time trying to find everything! Page setup is gone, I do a lot of Image Tracing (all the way back to when you needed that extra program to do it!) and…

Custom keyboard shortcuts can be added manually with Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts: Tools / Menu commands

Disable rotation shortcut in bounding box.
When working with small elements, the rotation tool interferes with opt+dragging to duplicate.
Rotation is not nearly as common a tool as simple manipulating/duplicating an object. Would prefer to use the Rotate tool when needed.1 vote -
allow text outline color to be placed "under" the fill color in Appearance palette
few years (and illustrator versions) ago it was possible to put text outline color "under" fill, so outline would not interference with typeface, and text stays readable.
Altough you can see "stroke" bar and "fill" bar, but they are unmovable.2 votes -
Unify point tangent, angle\length\direction
Short rationales:
Point Angle - I need a way to control the exact angle of point handles to unify them across a design. Currently the only way to control the angle is to constrain it to vertical, horizontal, or 45 degree angles.Point Handle Length\Direction - If you grab a point handle and make it a different length or direction than the handle on the other side of a point, there is currently no way to re-unify them besides re-drawing the curve.

Adjust Artboard to image
When opening a pixel image in Ai (to add vector details), Ai does not set the Artboard size to the boundaries of the image. Would be nice when it does.

Show Contentpreview in hidden layers
When you hide a layer, the contentpreview in the little square in the Layers Panel is hidden. Finding a specific layer is terrible when it’s hidden (you only see the layers name).
That makes absolutely no sense to me and has no benefit that I can think of, to the contrary.
Please make it at least an option, or just make the Layerpreview always visible. I can see that it’s hidden when I see the eye canceled on the right, no need for more indication that its hidden.

"Move to Layer" in right-click menu
I would love to be able to skip the Layers tab on the fly and right-click an object to move it to any layer in the document. It seems like it would make the most sense for this to live in Arrange? Ideally, the layer list would include colored bullets to match layer labels. This would be a huge time-saver for me.

When exporting the saving dialogue doesn't take you to the source location
When exporting, the saving dialogue doesn't take you to the source location which used to be the case. It takes you to Downloads instead which is not convenient for file organization.

Bei Infografiken werden kurze Texte oft mit farbigen Flächen hinterlegt. Cool wäre eine Funktion in Illustrator, welche einen Textblock oder eine Textzeile automatisch mit so einer Fläche hinterlegt. Optional könnte man Farbe, Eckenradius, Transparenz, Grösse (über den Text hinaus) usw. bestimmen.

Wand tool selects text
I often need to change the color of multiple objects at once and using universal swatches is not an option (several artboards using the same swatches need to be changed to different colors). The wand tool is perfect for this except that it completely ignores live text. Even using select > same > fill color doesn't capture everything (maybe a bug). Including text when using the wand tool seems like a no brainer. It would be really useful for selecting text of the same size, weight, font, and other parameters as well.
2 votesRecent versions of Illustrator have the dedicated Select Same submenu for text objects, specifically Select > Same > Text Fill Color.
This still won’t work properly if your text objects have complex appearance (a separate fill over characters counts as an object-level fill), but works for most cases.
Magic Wand though indeed ignores text objects completely. If you still want it to be able to do so, please vote and comment. There are some questions to be solved for that, like 'what should the wand do, if a clicked text characters of different colors mixed'?
