  1. Adobe CC Library Dropdown Categories and Groups

Adobe CC Library Dropdown Categories and Groups + Backup

Categories - I work for a large company, and while I LOVE the libraries, I hate scrolling. I'd love to be able to categorize them; for example, "Branding," "Imagery," "Products," "Stock," "Case Studies," "Creative" to cut down on the mega scroll effect.

Groups - Reiterating what another user said, group folders WITHIN the libraries would be very useful for one-off clients (or product launches) where you need to have lots of information in one library collection.

Backup - We need to be able to backup these libraries or have history restore…

  2. Export shortcut for PNG, JPEG etc

It would be great to have either a keyboard shortcut for exporting as a PNG, JPEG etc or even a toolbar shortcut.

  3. Find color in artwork

Sometimes I have a stray color that I cannot find in the artwork. It would be nice if there was a way I could click on the swatch and say find color and it would highlight everything that color was used on.

  4. link panel shows what layer the (missing) link is on and/or makes 'go to link' work on hidden layers too.

When links are missing that are on a hidden layer there is no way to easily spot them and check on in multilayered files. Since the GoToLink function only works on active layers, there is no other way but showing ALL layers and then using this function, remembering the layer and then hide the layers again; a painstaking procedure with large multilayered files. Would be nice if the link panel would simply state on which layer the missing link resides. Or make the GoToLink function automatically make the appropriate layer visible, like when pasting onto a hidden layer with 'paste…

  5. Resizing Area Type using Transform or Properties panel should not transform text inside

When you try to set a size for an Area Type text in the Transform pane, it currently distorts the text along with changing the size of the area. This strikes me as inconsistent with resizing the area from the bounding box resize handles, and also undesirable (am I missing a use-case where you'd want the text to be distorted in this situation?)

I recently became aware there are width/height inputs in Type > Area Type Options but these are cumbersome.

I propose the Width / Height inputs in the Transform pane behave as in Area Type Options.

  6. Select objects in Layers panel by dragging through items (or target or selection markers) with a modifier held

In older versions of Illustrator you could go to the layer panel and Cmd/Ctrl drag on the circle icons to select multiple objects really fast. Would love to have this back as it wasn't replaced with anything else and a lot of times I need to select objects on the layer panel and not the canvas.

  7. 'Tab' and 'Shift-Tab' to navigate when renaming Assets

    Issue:
While renaming assets in the Asset palette there's currently no way to move to the next or previous asset using the keyboard. When there are a large number of assets this makes for a tedious process.

    Goal:
Allow the renaming of multiple assets without having to use the mouse

    Suggested Solution:
Utilize 'Tab' / 'Shift-Tab' keys to navigate to the next / previous assets, e.g. how renaming layers works in Photoshop.

  8. Add a swatch from a color inside a gradient in Adobe Illustrator

When you are working in a gradient, you may customize your colors inside. However, there's no way to add this new color as a swatch - or even to be given a HEX code. Let's make this more functional!

  9. Keyboard shortcut to hide/show selected layer / object

Option to assign a keyboard shortcut for hide/show selected layer / object. Currently you have to click on the eye icon, which is pretty cumbersome. (for eg Photoshop has this feature, I think).

(I'm on a project where you need to trace this huge sketch with ready made elements and so toggle layer visibility is a fast way to see how things are aligning.) Cheers!

  10. Functionality to change the standard drag option from Libraries to "place copy"

I would like to receive an option to change the default drag and drop functionality to "Place copy" instead of "Place linked". This will save a lot of time and hassle.

  11. More advanced 'Add Anchor Points' function: selected segments only, number of points added, hotkey, etc.

'Add Anchor Points' is quite archaic at the moment. My requests:
    1. Allow to apply to selected parts of paths, instead of the complete path.
    2. Add a dialog to set the number of subdivisions / points added per segment.
    3. Allow to assign it to a keyboard shortcut
    4. When adding to a curved segment, the new anchor points should be smooth, not broken.

  12. Allow to collapse all items in Appearance panel

The Appearance panel looks somewhat similar to Layers, but it differs in many ways, excluding several QOL methods to deal with large amount of items.

For example, one can Opt/Alt-click a bracket next to a layer or a group in Layers to collapse unfurl all the children within it.

Sure, Layers miss just a button to do it as well, and there is a request about it here at UV (http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/42451084) — but Appearance just don’t have any method to collapse the items (and these do unfurl all the time — take a look at this bug report: …

  13. Issue with Saving Group Hierarchy in SVG Export

I am experiencing an issue where the group hierarchy is not being preserved when exporting or saving files in SVG format. No matter which variant I try, the user-defined hierarchy from the original file is lost in the SVG output.

Attached is a screenshot comparing the results of exports from different versions of the software, highlighting the issue. Despite trying multiple approaches, I have not found a way to save the groups as they appear in the original file.

  14. Make Revert operation into a History step we can undo

Shielding Revert this with a confirmation does NOT work.
Having confirmations is a bad UX solution, and it’s known now — it seems like only Adobe is not aware.
People don’t read these, and either learn to not notice these or to skip these.

What apps should do instead is to allow a mistake, but then giving a chance to Undo it.
Like modern email clients now do — you can undo sending an email, because there is a hidden delay.

Photoshop does NOT have a confirmation, but it allows us to UNDO the Revert, unlike other apps.

    Make Revert…

  16. We should be able to right-click on any command and Add a Hotkey to it

Ai is stuck in 90-s with the UI’s paradigm.
    We need faster ways now.

Why can’t we right-click any command in the top bar menu and choose 'Add a keyboard shortcut' command that will immediately open the Keyboard Shortcuts dialog with this clicked menu item already chosen?

Why should be go to the dialog separately and search for the command once more?

  17. Pin Contextual Task Bar position (like in Photoshop)

    Hi Adobe,

While I love the idea of the contextual toolbar, I'm sure I am joined by many in my opinion that it really gets in the way a lot of time, covering up parts of the design you'd like to see, making it hard to resize or move an object precisely and so on.

I'm extremely happy that I can just permanently pin the bar in the bottom of the screen (or wherever I want it) in Photoshop, but this option is entirely missing in Illustrator.

The bar will remain where it is for the duration of my work…

  18. Share for Review Notifications: comments and updates

It would be amazing if a "notification" could be added to the "Share for Review" feature. I am having to update the link and also send an update email to my clients and collabs. Thank you!!

  19. Move Blend Mode keyboard shortcuts from the Tools into the Menu Commands section

If you open Keyboard Shortcuts, make sure you have Tools selected, scroll all the way down, you’ll see all 'Blend Mode - [name of the mode]' commands there — empty, ready to be assigned... but. Opt/Alt cant’ be used for these. Because these are in tooools. Which means these can be bound only to naked keys and Shift+keys. Which are all taken, long time ago!

So please move Blend Mode keyboard shortcuts from the Tools section into the Menu Commands section, so we can use all possible modifiers for these, and not only Shift.

Also, why do we even have…

  20. Appearance and Gradient panels need a better way to signal 'No selection'

Very often, working on a complex appearance, we accidentally loose the object selection, and the stack we edit remains unassigned.

The panel then gets 'No selection' in the top row... but if the attributes stack is long, this line can get hidden if you scroll the panel down.
Then, if you select something else, all your changes get lost.

The workaround now is to be vigilant (ha) and save your appearance as a temp style before you select back the art you wanted to edit appearance for in the first place.
A better solution would be to make the 'No…
