3. Add Release button to Image Trace and Properties panels

   Please add a 'Release' button to the Properties Panel along with Image Trace. It would be easier to just 'release' the image trace instead of multiple undo-s.

4. Custom Rulers for scaling

   It would be great to have the option of creating custom scaled rulers.

   I'd like to be able to just tell the rulers "From this point to this point on the artboard is x-pixels" and have the ruler scale.

   When I design something for a 1080p screen, I like to put 2-up on a letter size page for discussion and markup with clients. So I design in a 2-up environment and end up with a massive amount of math to get things sized right.

5. CC Libraries: Add ability to drag new assets directly into a Library Group

   Currently, any asset dragged to the libraries panel gets added to the Ungrouped section. Let's narrow the focus down and let us drop into any one of the displayed groups.

   This would save immeasurable amounts of time having to hunt down and sort after the fact.

6. Adaptive Shapes

   Adaptive shapes would be shapes that can change size according to the amount of text inside of them.

   It makes having a highlighted text effect a lot easier. A rectangle with text inside it can stretch as you add more words.

   Maybe a bit harder but it’d be cool if it can be applied to more complex shapes like a speech bubble shape, while retaining the ability to customize the notch and corner radius.

   Doing any of this precisely and manually is not easy

7. Install brushes to Illustrator

   Install custom brushes to Illustrator
   With photoshop, you can install custom brushes. With Illustrator, you have to make any custom brush yourself which can be tedious and very difficult.

   Illustrator for desktop allows to save and import brushes with an ease.

   To save brushes, just save a document with your brushes as an .ai file. You don’t have to have them on canvas for this, just in Brushes panel.

   To load brushes, click the Brush Libraries Menu button in the bottom left corner of the Brushes panel (looks like a bookshelf). Choose Other Library, locate the brush library .ai file.

8. Workspace remembers panel size and collapsed state

   I use Illustrator on my laptop screen and also when plugged into an external monitor.
   When switching between these screens I often have to adjust which panels are collapsed, and the size of each panel, particularly when going from the smaller laptop screen to the external monitor.

   It would be very helpful if the workspace settings could remember not just which UI panels you have open, but their size and collapsed state. This way I could have a preference for when Illustrator is displaying on a 15" laptop and one for my 27" monitor.

9. Search items on canvas within Layer panel

   Hi, it's hard to find a certain path/vector art assets from the layers menu if the list is super long. My suggestion for the search function is when you click the asset on the art board, you can simply hover your mouse over the layer's list and click e.g. ',' (comma) and it shows you the right art asset from the layers' dropdown list.

   Illustrator offers a way to locate a selected object on canvas in Layers — with the Locate button at the bottom of the panel (the magnifying glass icon). If you have several objects selected, the topmost one would be scrolled to.

   There is a separate request to make this function work automatically.

   Another request asks for a hotkey for the button.

10. Advanced Rename Tools for Artboards with Find & Replace

    Would love to have a feature that allows a mass-rename feature to artboards the same way you can rename files in Mac OS: Add Text, Replace Text, Format. As a designer who exports many artboards for the web and is constantly renaming file version numbers for easy export - this would be a dream!

11. Make Document Color Mode menu available to set up as an action

    Make Document Color Mode a recordable action. I have to edit lots of files and they all have to be CMYK. If I forget one, it will look horrible on our website and we might never notice it. It would help a lot if color mode could be set up as an action.

    You can insert the 'Document Color Mode: CMYK' command into an action using the 'Insert Menu Item' from the Actions panel’s flyout menu

12. Full Alignment Center Option (both horizontally and vertically)

    Instead of having two tools (Horizontal and Vertical Align Center), can we get a tool that does both in one called something like Fully Align Center. I've included an image of what the tool might look like.

    The latest Beta 30.4.0.80 build adds an additional button in the Align panel.

    This is a first iteration (I hope), so please try and comment to steer it in the proper direction.

13. Contextual Eyedropper Tool

    Currently, the Eyedropper Tool is an underutilized and often counter-intuitive tool that needlessly increases the complexity of a workflow because of its limitations. This- combined with Illustrator's poor color tools- often adds unnecessary time and effort to what should and could be more simplified tasks.

    For example, a common situation is that I have a shape with a fill color that I like, and I want another shape that has a stroke to also use that color, except only for the stroke. Currently, if I use the eyedropper tool on the filled shape, it will completely remove the stroke and add a fill, although the desired result is neither action. The workaround, of course, is to create a new swatch of that color, then make sure the stroke is selected, and then apply the swatch color to that stroke (as the other color tools are essentially useless for matching colors, given no live preview).

    This, of course, can get incredibly tedious when dealing with lots of colors and lots of fills and strokes, and it is not always desirable (nor, I would argue, should it be necessary) to always create swatches for working with colors.

    This situation is of course not limited to shapes. Often I will have text that I want to have a stroke with particular cap conditions, but want the color from another stroke. However, the current process of using the eyedropper tool strips the formatting of the stroke (or whatever properties) and takes on the properties of the selected object, even though all that was wanted was the color.

    A more elegant solution would be to make the eyedropper tool contextual, so that specific properties of the sampled object could applied without completely changing the selected object’s properties to conform entirely to the sampled object.

    I would suggest the following that the eyedropper tool be modified to work contextually much like the Pen Tool works contextually.

    The default state of the Eyedropper Tool would work as it currently does. However, there would then be different options that could be cycled through in the Eyedropper Tool, analogous to how there is the Pen Tool, the Add Vertex Tool, Subtract, Convert, etc.

    In this usage, holding a modifier key or choosing a different function of the eyedropper tool would allow one to decide which aspects of the sampled object to apply to the selected object.

    For example, if I have a circle with a red stroke and a box with a blue fill, and I want the circle to have the stroke be the same color as the box’s blue fill, I could hold Alt/Opt (as an example) to switch to the Color Sample Tool which would then sample only the color of the sampled object and apply it to either:

    1. Whichever property is currently active (e.g., Fill or Stroke)
    2. If the object has ONLY a Fill or ONLY a Stroke, it would automatically default to applying it to whichever is already extant.

    This could be extended to sample the color of the pixel sampled, or the entirety of the fill or stroke (e.g., for gradients, styles, etc.)

    Another option (perhaps by holding Alt+Cmd/Ctrl) would be the Stroke Style Sample Tool, which would sample the style of sampled object’s Stroke. This could even be given some further options (perhaps accessed by up or down arrows) to select only weight, weight and Caps style, Weight, Caps Style and Color, etc., all delineated by changes in the icon state.

    I think that a contextual Eyedropper Tool would be a more elegant way of handling color and style sampling in Illustrator and eliminate the current workarounds necessary for an efficient workflow.

    The solution to that would be to activate a stroke if you want to apply a color to it, then to hold Shift when clicking a color — does not matter where this color is on a stroke or a fill. Illustrator then applies the picked color to the active fill/stroke, ignoring the source nature. There are two things to know — the cursor does not inform you about this mode (unlike the Alt-mode, should be addressed), and if you pick a color from a swatch — you’d get a screen representation of the color... harmless for RGB documents (if your color settings are in order), but crucial for CMYK documents (should be addressed too). 14. Create New Layers by Dragging and Dropping Groups or Objects from Original Layers

    Please give us the ability to drag and drop Objects in-between Layers in order to create new Layers--without having to "Collect in New Layer."

    On top of that, please retain the object's name as the Layer name when doing this action.

15. Count objects

    Count objects when using Select-->Same, Select-->Object, and "Start editing similar shapes together" commands. Sometimes "Start editing similar shapes together" does not select all similar shapes; therefore, an edit made using this feature may not edit all similar shapes, unbeknownst to the user. However, if I know how many shapes I have, then I can confirm that all shapes are selected when using these commands throughout the editing process. This is valuable because confirming the count of selections builds confidence that edits are made to all objects. Likewise, it also saves the editor time by mitigating the need to count all selected objects manually to ensure that all objects are selected.

16. Allow ZOOM when using spacebar while scrolling

    When holding spacebar to pan over the document, please allow ZOOMING by scrolling on the mouse. Rather than having two separate keys. Quite tedious.

20. .DXF compound shape support

    Illustrator doesn't seem to support exporting compound shapes in a .DXF file. Corel does so it must be possible. This lack of support means that you cannot have text in a DXF file.
