Selection Stuck
Often when I select multiple object one will remain selected no matter where I click and what else I select. I have to "select all" then clink in blank space to get everything un selected. It's wasting a lot of time.
I am glad to update that this issue was fixed in 23.1 release.
Thank you for all the feedback.

It only got worse in AI 2020.

It wasn't fixed in the 23.1 release. I have the latest version and it just happened to me.

I'm using the most current v 24.0 and still the same issue. I've used Illustrator for over 9 years and never have had this issue. It always seems that issues with Adobe apps only happen when I'm up against a strict deadline at the last moment, 12th hour...what the ****!

Same problem here for years. Everyone in our studio has the same issue.
Seems to happen more if you do a lot of undo actions in a row.

Same problem. Illustrator v24.0, 2019 Mac running Catalina v10.15. I have to restart Illustrator to kill it. I had the same problem with all the Illustrator updates since 2018. An object remains selected, though nothing shows as selected in layers window. I can lock all the layers and still it shows a box around a mysterious object If I grab an unlocked text layer and change it from lowercase to all caps, other text (unselected - and remember those layers are LOCKED) will change from lowercase to all caps. Please fix this annoying bug!

I've had this problem for years on 4 machines across both PC and Mac. I cannot believe it's not a generalized, known issue in .AI as it seems to be widespread and persistent.

Same prob. I went through every layer, sublayer, etc and there is nothing 'hidden' that's selected. Nothing is selected, yet I get the bounding box with some invisible thing selected. Deselect All, nope, that won't work.
Select all, 'then' deselect all... no, that doesn't work.
Nothing is hidden, or locked. I can't use many commands because it says I need to deselect the dang thing, which of course I can not.
This is one of the worst bugs I've run into. It's a complete work stoppage. -

SAME PROBLEM HERE, seriously can we get this sorted.

Hi there,
We have the same problem on two iMacs and two Macbooks, two users in total. It can't be just a coincident.

Only Way I've found to resolve this problem is by working on only 1 layer. I've found this problem to be so annoying and frustrating, having to close and re-open only to have it happen again within minutes, only sometimes. My solution; flatten the artwork. Has worked well for me.

Good news, I found the solution: just move to Sketch!

Thank you for this - "I have to "select all" then clink in blank space to get everything un selected."
This is a solution in my book. Ctrl+A then click. The funny thing is finding the solution, even an imperfect one, in bug fix text.
I was expecting to find a solution in other replies from Adobe employees. There are 2 replies in 2 years and both of them are the usual "its not us, its you" bullshit from Chaturvedi and Ankit Goyal. How can you experts not reproduce this issue, but so many amateurs reproduce it by accident?
Anyone competent enough at Adobe to give a straight anser??? -

Same problem here, everyday, since 2017

FWIW, this seems tied to the Undo action.

The only way I can work around it is to make sure everything is how it needs to be and then save and exit. When I re open its always gone.
Still annoying though!

This bug, like so many others in AI, has persisted for years without a fix.
I don't think Adobe cares one bit.
