Changing size of area type shape with mixed font style changes all characters to one font style
I was using trial version of Illustrator CC 2017. I just purchased for a year and upgraded to Illustrator CC 2018.
Draw shape. Choose area type tool. Click path of bubble. Bubble disappears and is converted to Lorem Ipsum text with transparent path. Deselect object. Choose direct selection tool. Select the path. Choose default b/w stroke/fill. Now text is inside a white bubble with black outline. (I also used Type > Area Type Options > Inset Spacing to adjust margins inside the path, and First Baseline to X Height.)
Now, use the Type tool to select one word. Under Properties panel > Character section > Font Style menu, select Bold or Bold Italic. Now one word is bold. Now choose Selection Tool. Try to resize the shape.
What is supposed to happen: the shape should resize, the text should re-flow inside the shape but the formatting of the text should not change.
What actually happens: all of the text changes to the new font style.
This is a very big problem for comic book lettering, where a bold or bold-italic word is used for emphasis. The bold or bold-italic word sometimes changes the flow of the bubble, so the bubble must be re-sized. However, when I resize it, all of the text changes. So I never know how big to make the bubble to get it to be the right size with just one word bold.
This seemed to work fine in Illustrator CC 2017. Please fix this in Illustrator CC 2018.
Please get in touch with us at sharewithai@adobe.com or any of the other support channels.
Since this is not a generic issue that we can reproduce at our end, we will need someone to look into your machine to figure out what is going on here.

Hi Mark & DN,
Can you please let me know if you are facing this issue with Character Panel as well?
Thanks

I am having that issue with 22.0.1 on a Mac.
Specifically… after typing a line of text, I will select a single word to change to a heavier weight. It appears to "take" but when I click on the canvas the entire line changes to the new heavier weight.
I'm using the Character panel inside the Properties palette

That is not the issue. The issue is, when I resize the box, all the text changes to one style. Sometimes. Apparently not all the time. It is very confusing.

Hi Anish
It was in the properties panel, but I've just updated to the latest 22.0.1 and I can't recreate the problem since updating. -

In AI 2017, I can use bold inside a text box/sentence. Now, in AI 2018, when I set some word with BOLD, all the text is converted to BOLD when I click outside the box... what? It's a severe bug! Please fix it!

Hitting CTRL+Z (Windows 10) fixes the issue (as though it's performed 2 separate actions).

Illustrator 22
Selecting part of a text area, changing font weight then clicking off the text area results in the whole text area changing to the same weight.
