Unite on Pathfinder leaves mess of little vectors
This is something that happens to me frequently when creating underbases for screen printing. I'll make a copy of my top colors and unite them to create my base, and there's a mess of little vectors left behind that have to be cleaned up before I can trap the base. There's no gaps in the art so these vectors should not be there and this is a big lag on my production time.
As per the comment, you can adjust the Pathfinder precision in Pathfinder Options dialog, accessible from the Pathfinder’s panel flyout menu. The higher the value, the less accurate the result is going to be. Lesser values gives more precision, but it can lead to many 'residuals'. The default value is 0.028 pt, but you might try something like 0.01 pt and see if it works better.

Funny, I found a fix to this problem. The problem lies within the pathfinder pallet options in the drop down menu from in the pallet. You have to adjust the precision to 0.01 and it doesn't produce the little residue vectors.

I am having this issue too. Been having it for sometime now. I would love to know why this is happening as it adds lots of time to remove.

The thing is AI is TOO precise, while it gives impression it is NOT.
It's about nature of bezier curves and limited precision.

Still, your request is valid, and I will upvote it, although there's a custom solution, as video shows, exists. -

Why is the pathfinder tool imprecise in the latest version of illustrator? It leaves trash behind, creates extra nodes, distorts what were precise shapes, and just doesn't work like it once did? What gives Adobe?
Here is one example....of what happened when I used the unite function. Why can it not create a perfect circle? How did you break the tool. Stop adding **** to your programs and fix the problems, PLEASE.
Feel free to contact me directly. Please do. Do something...

Anything on this? I keep having this issue. This time, I had to do a ton of cleanup on a cut file that was created from a logo that I'm creating decals from. I united the logo from the Pathfinder pallet an had a ton of all these little vectors left behind where elements that had no gaps between them were overlapping.
