File > New or Cmd/Ctrl+N fails to create new document
After opening Illustrator, I'm only able to open existing files. Trying to create a new file by clicking "File > New" in the menu, or clicking "Ctrl+N" results in a brief pause, but no new artboard or new file appears.

Cannot create a new document. None of the following options work: the blue "New file" button, Menu > New and Ctrl+N.
I have restarted the computer and the problem persists.
I'm running Illustrator v 30.4 -

Ctrl + N, o el botón de nuevo archivo no funcionan, programa en su última versión y no puedo trabajar, qué debo hacer?

I see. There is a similar problem that mentions a dual-monitor setup (http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/601447/suggestions/50782655)... well, it’s something else then :(
As a workaround, please open Preferences and enable the 'Use legacy "File New" interface' option — it should skip the modern dialog and fall back to the advanced legacy one. -

I have only one actual and no virtual one then

I meant actual monitors, yes. But if you do have virtual ones — do you?

Do you mean virtual monitors in Windows, or physical monitors?
-
Do you have one or several monitors?

Nothing happens when I click New in the File tab or when I use the Ctrl + N shortcut.
-
Is it still broken for you?

Paul, any issues with later builds?

Both. Nothing appears.
Thank you so much, it's been resolved by clicking "Use legacy File New Interface" from the preferences.
-
Which one do you mean?
The one at your Home Screen?
What about File > New?
If it fails as well, try to go to Edit > Preferences and check 'Use legacy "File New" interface' — does it make any difference? -

Once I close all the artworks, I click on "New", nothing seems opening. I think it's bug
-
Audri, if you go to Preferences > General and check 'Use legacy "File New" interface' — does the dialog appear when you try again?
Just to understand if Ai fails completely to create a document, or is it only the modern dialog misbehaves. -

After a few hours of running illustrator at work, it will come to a point where I cannot create a new file. Ctrl+N won't open the window. File > New... won't open. Clicking New File in the home page won't work. I have to close illustrator and reopen it. It happens at least 3 times a day and is quite frustrating. I've tried resetting my preferences and reinstalling illustrator, but it continues to happen.

Does it work if you don’t copy anything?
If yes — does it matter what you copy? a text, a vector art? -

Illustrator 25.4.1
copy an item from a document
hit "command N" to make a new document
hit "return"
new document dialog goes away, but a new document is not made -
So it works, good. It’s not an actual solution, since these dialog don’t display thumbnails for recent templates and docs, but it’s fast and I prefer it to the shiny modern one.

Not sure if I get it. You mean you like this one better than the modern one? When you check the 'Use legacy "File New" interface' option in Preferences — this is the dialog you will always get from now on for File > New and Ctrl+N.
Or do you refer to the templates folder you wish to always get opened? -

When choosing it, this is how it looks. Is there a way to have this window as it's set by default?
