Illustrator 26.2.1 LAGS on EVERYTHING. Unusable.

For no reason that I can tell, Illustrator has suddenly become totally unresponsive. I can't do ANYTHING. Even trying to resize the interface window results in a 30-second-long storm of flickering diagonal arrows cursor. No menu item can be selected without an unusably long lag.
I have reset preferences, restarted Illustrator, restarted the machine altogether, switched wifi networks, the whole shooting match. I use Illustrator for all my work and this has brought my life to a crashing halt.

You know what, I just gave up and went back to 24.1.3.

This sucks. 30 seconds is completely unusable.
There are two possible workarounds left — to upgrade or to downgrade.
