Illustrator 2022 changing stroke with changes the width height
Every time I change the stoke width of a line, it scales the height or width - even if in scale I've unselected 'scale strokes and effects'

Heidi, it sounds weird and I have a problem imagining that.
Can you please share some evidence, like a short video, or a GIF?
Can you share a test file?
