Selecting a path no longer helps to select its anchor below another anchor above from an unselected path
iMac running Ventura 13.5.2
Illustrator 29.4
Since the latest update (I think), I cannot select anchor points that are below others like I used to.
Until now, I used to be able to click on the object from which I wanted to select an anchor point (black line in the movie), then click on the desired anchor point with the white arrow and it would select the anchor point from this object.
Now it selects the anchor point from the other object that is above (red line). Which means now I need to bring the first object to the front before selecting its anchor point, then sending it back to the back when I'm done.

I’ve confirmed this as well. It seems the bug only occurs in the latest version:
Up to 29.3.1: not reproducible
29.4: reproduciblePossible workarounds:
(A) Roll back to an earlier version and wait for a fix
(B) Use Isolate Selected Path mode (available via right-click context menu) to select anchor pointsIt’s frustrating not being able to control things like before—hoping for a quick fix!

I confirm this, and thank you so much for the report — it means it’s not only me!
Here’s a quick comparison between how it works today and a the way it used to work (recorded in CC2017).
It doesn’t matter if Smart Guides are on or off, or any other snapping-related settings are toggled (like Highlight anchors on mouse over).
