More than 1 Placed Item that has been named loses name in 29.6.1
Place 2 linked items. Rename each item in the layer panel to Item 1 and item 2. Save File as Template or Document. Reopen. Only the first name appears. The second appears as <Linked File>. Any others also are renamed to <Linked File>. This is crucial to automation of template files to replace linked files and needs to be fixed! Have no issues with 29.5

Alas, not that I am aware of :( There are several problems with different entities losing their names: assets, layers, artboards... and none of them have been picked up so far.

As I said, I can reproduce it now with 29.6.1 on Windows too. Definitely a bug!

Have a look at this loom video example. It continues in 26 or 26.1 to be an issue. Is it a Mac only issue? Attached is example file to use.

Interesting.
This is not happening for me on PC — in Beta, when saved and opened back...
But when I save a file saved in Beta in 29.6.1 — the first linked file indeed looses its custom name.
If I change it back and resave as a new doc — names stay (and Beta sees them fine as well).
And finally, in a doc created from scratch in 29.6.1 — the first link looses the name too! Even though at first it was just fine...Dean, can you please try this with the latest Beta as well?

keep adding more if you wantIn layers pallet Rename PNG <Linked File> to Style 1 or anything else
In layers pallet Rename PNG 2<Linked File> to Style 2
if more rename themSave file
Close File
Open FileAll linked images lost their name but the first one.
If this isnt repeatable for you it is occurring on Mac. I cannot confirm if works on PC. Ironically if I downgrade to 25 and reopen the file saved with 26.1 it still has the names but not in 26 or 26.1 -
Dean, I fail to reproduce it with 29.6.1.
Placing 2 linked PNGs and 2 AIs (or perhaps it should be some other type of link?), giving them custom names in Layers, saving both as .ai and .ait, reopening back (with or without links present in their original location) — the names stick :(
Please try to record a short video with the exact steps shown... there should be a difference.
