I see the size of the image is just 1cm... I don’t see the effective resolution of this image (you never select it directly or show the Link Info section in the Links panel), but I’d assume is gigantic. Is is a JPEG? I’m testing it with the file that had this problem with 29.6.1 build and it doesn’t happen anymore...What version are you using?
If it’s 29.6.1 too, please make a copy of your document with nothing but the image in question in it, package it and send it (or the link to the cloud storage, if the result is too heave for emailing it) to sharewithai@adobe.com. Toggling the option I mentioned doesn’t make it fixed.
I noticed it is somehow related to zoom level, but was not able to find logic.

Any detail goes!An error occurred while saving the comment Cesar, can you please check Preferences > Object & Anchor Selection, Object Selection by Path Only — it should be unchecked if you want to be able to select objects by their fill and images 'by pixels' (and it’s usually is disabled).

These utilize a combination of object notes and custom names to remember the original layers — very clever and effective.I tried it and it solves some of mine problems for sure. Would definitely use for myself.

Dear users,
Can you please let us know what is that you cannot do with the existing 'save selection' functionality that you expect to do by grouping objects from different layers?
'Save selection' enables you to combine objects from different layers without having to bring them into one single layer.
To use 'save selection' just select your desired objects and save the selection from the select > save selection menu command or from the bottom of the layers panel.

An error occurred while saving the comment Basically what you need is 'linking objects', the same way it is done in Photoshop? When you can press a chain icon and two or more objects (as well as groups) and transform them all at once, without breaking their relative hierarchy.

An error occurred while saving the comment You kind of can do it already. Instead of groups you should make Saved Selections: Select > Save Selection.
Later you can call these via Select menu (displayed at the bottom) and manage through the Edit Selection command.Be ware — this is an old piece, it has some weird quirks to it and an awful UX.
One object can be contained in different saved selections (that is good actually, but maybe not for your task).
It also supports storing subselections (array-based).There was a request to boost this into a proper panel... or I never made it yet.

Expected to be fixed in the latest Beta Build 30.5.0.64, now availibale in CCD.
Please try to update and see if this is really fixed.
An error occurred while saving the comment I agree with @monokano and want to add that this screaming red square with 'generate!' icon is very distracting, can’t be used as a selection marker, because we should be given an ability to disable it (and some like me just don’t have it).
An error occurred while saving the comment @Ten_A, can’t confirm. When I try the steps, the artboard 3 becomes inactive, and the artboard 2 becomes one instead, just like the GIF shows. Am I doing something wrong?

I tried it, and indeed, most menus become dark. Looks sweet (only arrows that happen to pop when the menu is too long to fit the screen stay light)

Also — what options are enabled in you Eyedropper (it messes up with appearance a lot if we are not careful). -

An error occurred while saving the comment By default, Ai drops any appearance from an object that becomes a clipping mask.
If one wanted to keep the color, they needed to reassign it after clipping. Since the fact the clipping mask can be colored is not exactly widely known, many users tend to create duplicates of the clipping mask and place it under the clipping group — a tedious redundancy to manage.
Since CS5, we got another method to keep the color — Draw Inside mode, that keeps the appearance of the base object and allows us to create clipping groups in a different fashion. For many users this is the only method they know to create clips.
The classic method (place a path above, select all, Cmd/Ctrl+7, same as Object > Clipping Mask > Make) would benefit from getting an option to keep the appearance, for those who needs it. Not by default, certainly.
To complete the UX, I’d perhaps add a 'Remove appearance from clipping mask' menu in the context menu, to help those who needs it always, but occasionally need to strip it — even though it’s easy to do with selecting a mask and removing appearance... ah, wait. We can’t easily select it, because Ai won’t allow selecting it — as reported here: https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/31558588
At the moment, we have two classic scripts, developed by Herman van Boeijen: Clipper and Bottom clipper, to clip with path above or below, while keeping the color — https://github.com/nimbling/Nimbling_Scripts#clip-scripts
They use a clever hack — Ai won’t allow to select a colored clip by its fill, but does allow this, if the clipping path is a compound path! Alas, Ai intervenes, and pulls clippings masks to the top of their clip groups when a document is reopened, reported here: https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/601447/suggestions/48267722 — and this makes selecting clipped objects impossible, until the mask is sent to back.AdminEgor Chistyakov
