    Hi Everyone,

We have fixed this bug in our latest release – v 24.2.1 which is available worldwide now. Thanks for your patience on this.

Please note that after upgrading you might still see that Align To sets itself to Align to Key Object. If you see this, please manually set the Align To to the required setting, and this reported bug will not happen again. You’ll need to this one time only.

The reason Align To might get set to Key Object after update is because Ai remembers your last Align To on subsequent launches as well. So, if your last Align To was Key Object before quitting/upgrading, after first multi-selection, it will set itself to Key Object. After you manually change it one-time, it will work fine.

You can update to the latest release using Creative Cloud desktop App: https://helpx.adobe.com/in/creative-cloud/help/creative-cloud-updates.html

@James Allen: have you updated to v24.2.1 yet? that has fixed the issue for me.

@Varun: thanks for getting on this fairly quickly. It was pretty annoying, and I combed through all the settings and preferences to find a way to turn it off, not realizing it was a bug.

That happens to me too. Same OS and Illustrator version.

The "workaround" is to click off in any browser and then click back in Illy and it should go back to the selection tool. I haven't had a chance to try that out yet. One of my coworkers told me that, but I wonder if it's just click outside Illustrator and doesn't have to be a browser window.

Anyway, I feel your pain. Hopefully they will get it worked out.

Still not addressed in v24 (mac).

In your original post someone suggested turning off snap to grid, but I don't have that turned on and the behavior is still different for the properties panel vs. the transform panel.

Interestingly, when you click on the three dots in the properties panel to invoke the full transform panel the arrow keys resize in .125" increments.

Hopefully this will ping some activity.

LNMB and Mike W: Select the text box with the closed arrow, then in the appearance panel, click on new stroke, make it what you want (twice the width of course because half of it will be behind your type), and drag it below the characters, as you would if you were rejiggering layers in the layers panel. You can't do that if you highlight with the text tool. Bummer, I know, for those of us who are used to using InDe.

Below is a link to a youtube vid that shows how to do it. The version of Illustrator in the video is really old, but the concept is the same. It still ain't InDe though.

We do it this way all the time in packaging layout when type has to be outlined for visibility (think legally required in a particular place on a package, like net weight).
