Tab now shifts to toggle buttons in Layers Panel instead of renaming the next layer
In the newest update (29.6) the layers panel has some changes. When you hover over the toggle buttons, they highlight. Before updating, I could double-click to rename my layer, then hit Tab to rename the next layer. Now, Tab just moves to the toggle buttons and the tools at the bottom of the panel. I think this should be adjusted back to make renaming layers a smoother process.

Add a toggle button group in Control to switch between text and path of an area type
The Control panel doesn’t have a button to quickly switch between the area type as a wholesome object and its path (similar to what InD has and to the toggle we see when working with clip groups).
To select the path only, we now have to actually use Direct or better Group Selection tool and aim precisely. This is a crucial step to 'extract' the path with no text, that was discussed here: https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/517518121 vote -
Show thumbnails in Artboards panel
I would love to be able to see a thumbnail of the artboard in the Artboard panel (similar to how you can for layers) I often have many artboards and would like to move them into a certain orders visually — not just by name.

Allow customized names for exported artboards
Allow me to customize the name of artboards that are exported or saved as.
OR, change the automatic naming to include the artboard number at the front of the file name so they will be in the same order as they are in the document when sorted alphabetically.
Here is how I would use this feature:
We use Illustrator to create client presentations. Artboards are named according to their content. Often saving/exporting as a PDF from Ai results in a file that's too large to email.
So I export each artboard as a PNG. The naming convention for these files…

When duplicating an artboard when there is no more space on the canvas, Illustrator will ask and rearrange your artboards to make space.
I need to duplicate an artboard, but because I have been sketching all over it says there is no room. But I can see that if I rearrange the artboards tighter together there will be space. Instead of saying "there is no more space on the canvas" what if it asked you if it is okay to rearrange the existing artboards closer together to make more space on the canvas?

Double clicking a gradient should open the gradient editor
When a gradient is clicked in the toolbar's Fill Stroke Controls, the Fill turns black, in stead of opening the gradient editor.
Why? It's not of any use, and contra intuitive.Please open the gradient editor whenever a gradient is double clicked.

Adding the [null] 'swatch' to the Recent Colors quick use panel
Adding the [null] 'swatch' to the Recent Colors quick use panel would make for efficient color swapping. Yes, the null option is always on the tools panel; intuitively a recent selection even of null/no color should sit in the recently used Recent Colors area.

Make "Create Outlines" not greyed out when text is selected
If I am creating a text element for the sole purpose of converting it to outline, it is confusing that the "Type > Create Outlines" option is greyed out when the text is selected.
"Create Outlines" should not be greyed out, and when the user clicks there could potentially be a warning the first time saying:
"Creating Outlines will make it impossible
to edit the text box, would you like to proceed?[ ] Do not show this message again"
Although one could assume that the user knows what they are doing, and that the warning message might be annoying…

Support SVG 2.0 for import and export
When importing SVG 2.0 files into Adobe Illustrator, some attributes will not be properly recognized and get lost.
SVG 2.0 is gaining wider adoption in modern design and web workflows. If Adobe Illustrator, After Effects and other industry-standard creative tools do not implement full SVG 2.0 compatibility soon, it will create major unnecessary frictions for users. Designers will constantly need to manually modify files and roll back to outdated SVG 1.1 syntax to make their assets editable across the toolchain. This breaks the seamless handoff between design and development that modern vector workflows rely on.

Rename the 'Typing' history step for auto-bullet conversion to a clearer label (e.g., AutoFormat)
Using Undo to roll back the auto conversion of bullets now works as it should (thanks to this report: http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/46954429), but the history step is just called with general 'Typing', and it doesn’t add clarity.
Compare it with something like Microsoft Word, where the step is called 'AutoFormat' — still a broad name, but much easier to spot!
Plus, Word offers to undo the auto-formatting right there in text when typing with a widget... and it offers a way to disable it completely right THERE.
Ai’s solution is rather blunt and cheap and lacks elegancy in this current form.…3 votes -
Support Artboard Background Fill Color when saving to Cloud (.aic)

- 30.2.1
- Create an .ai document and change the fill color of an artboard. Save it locally (still .ai). Close and Reopen it and observe the fill color is the same. Now save that document to the cloud (.aic). Close and Reopen it and observe the fill color is reset to transparent.
- I expect the artboard fill color to stay the same when saving as an .aic, just like it does as an .ai

Dithering for Freeform gradients
Dithering to freeform gradients is missing but very handy to have. Esp as this is now the only gradient type without it. Dithering in linear and radial gradients is great so having the same option for freeform seems a logical feature.

Turntable feature is not available for Intertwine objects

An ability to enlarge panels on mouse hover to have larger controls (dynamic and local UI scaling)
Using a 4k screen I find the palette to be small, and I struggle seeing them detailed especially when it comes to gradients.
It would be handy to have a feature to enlarge the palette when the mouse hovers on it. Potentially deciding on to which palette activate this. Like for me I'd like to activate it only on the gradient, swatches and colors palette. Maybe a temporary shortcut to press while hovering onto the palette. Thanks.Also having a better color picker on the color palette would be nice.

Keep the Spacing value active when you have 1 artboard in New Document dialog
I often start with 1 artboard only in a new document (and I create these using classic dialog, because it’s faster than the modern one). There is a bug with the value used from a previous session (like 20 mm I love) looses precision (becoming 19.999 mm)... But even with this bug fixed, I don’t see why this field should be disabled.

Make Path direction available for all Paths
Make Path direction available for all Paths. Not only Compound Paths are influenced by Path direction. Patterns are too. And other apps, like After Effects make use of Path direction as well.

Cannot select some character in Thai
Normally, I can select every character in Thai. Now it cannot be separately selected, especially the tone mark and the vowel. Please see the attached picture for reference.

Distribute Spacing dialog
The new Distribute Spacing dialog is extremely useful when a key object is set and the function is accessed through the menu.
I'm aware that a keyboard shortcut can be assigned to open this dialog quickly. However, what I'd really like is the ability to trigger the same key-object-based distribution directly from the Distribute buttons on the panel, by holding a modifier key while clicking them.
