1. 'Reveal in finder' right-click images

   Can basic image functions please get added to right-click menus. Both when right-clicking images, and when right-clicking images in the Links panel...

   • Reveal in Bridge
   • Edit in Photoshop

   I also made a single “Full Image & Link Overhaul” request that pulled all the smaller image issues together, but it seems to have been deleted. Can an admin explain why?

3. Prevent Conversion of Outlined Text to Editable Text

   The Retype convert to live type feature makes it too easy for clients, vendors, and 3rd parties to convert uneditable work into editable work. It's a nice tool for your own work, but it is potentially bad for business.

   Please add permissions features that allow us to control whether or not our files (PDF/AI) can be manipulated in this way by others or reconsider rolling out the Retype conversion feature.

   Please DO NOT roll out the Retype convert outline to live type feature unless this protection is added to illustrator.

   I realize there are probably a bunch of ways around this, but let's not add it to the default feature set without thinking about the consequences.

4. The ability to check an option for "convert lines to shapes" when I export different formats

   When exporting a file to SVG.... I wish there was a check box where I can specify it converts all lines to shapes on export to SVG... This way I do not have to do the conversion manually... and then revert back when I save ai version...

   Often I get messages that distract me and then I forget to revert back and accidentally save the ai version with lines as shapes... then my mast ai version gets messed up...

   Thanks a lot for reporting the feature request. When you say shape do you mean you want lines to get converted to SVG elements? Does this apply to the other shapes like, ellipse, circle or rectangles as well?

5. A mode for Free Transform tool to hug selected points tightly

   Affinity has Transform mode for selected points (see the GIF).

   Illustrator meanwhile allows to use Scale, Rotate, and other dedicated transform tools for a partial selection. No bounding box is allowed when Direct Selection is active.
   We can pick Free Transform and use a familiar frame to transform the partial selection... but this frame hugs the entire object. This can be useful in some cases, but not that handy in others -—like when you need to work with a rather small part of a larger artwork.
   Perhaps there should be a way to may the frame hug the selection snuggly?

6. Trim View - Isolate to one artboard only

   I like the option of "Trim View" to temporarily hide artwork that outside of my artboard. But when I have overlapping artboards and I try to use trim view on one of them Illustrator combines the area of the overlapping artboards and trims everything outside of that "merged" artboard. This defeats the purpose of using trim view for me. I would like trim view to isolate the artboard I'm working on and only that artboard. It would also be nice if the black lines showing the other artboard extents would also disappear when entering trim view for a single artboard. The cherry on top would be the ability to control the opacity of the trim view, so that I could still faintly see the artwork outside the artboard.

   FYI - my artboards are overlapping because I'm using them on a large map file. The map covers a large area and there are multiple printed map products coming from it, each with their own artboard extent (so I can quickly save out pdfs based on artboard extents). My current method of isolating one artboard is to just create a large rectangle with a hole cut out that is the same shape as the artboard I'm working on. Trim view seems like an easier method of accomplishing the same thing, except that it doesn't seem to isolate artboards if they are overlapping.

   To illustrate:
   Screenshot #1 shows a map file with many different artboards. I added red rectangles to show where all the artboards are.

   Screenshot #2 shows the same file with trim view on (and the red rectangles turned off).

7. Option to save / export values in 64 bits

   I work in metric, and everything works perfectly until I have to export file to the CAD software which uses higher accuracy.

   If I have a line of 42 mm, actual dimension is 42.00007 (because the way illustrator stores values in points, and getting rounded in 32bit).
   Problem really shows up if I have to scale things 1000-10000 times

   Would be amazing if Illustrator had an option to save / export values in 64bits

8. I would love to see a "temporary canvas" or "temporary file" feature added to illustrator

   I often find myself creating temporary documents that I end up deleting after doing whatever I need to do in Illustrator before bringing over to InDesign or some other application. It'd be so nice to start a "Quick Canvas" or something that has the full functionality of Illustrator, but it instead acts as a notepad that can either auto-save to the cloud or just delete itself after using.

9. Save as PDF with multiple artboards is slow

   Just had an long trail/error chat with you. We found the problem and thats why i post it here:

   When having a illustator file with 1 image and 4 artboards. (segments of the image). We print & mount the 4 artboards it to make a complete wall vinyl graphics.

   When i Save as PDF the export will take lets say 4 minutes. (it very depends on what image is used) but when i merge all artboards to 1 artboard it saves in 1 minute. So it means that per artboard the export time is multipled by number of artboards.

   Sometimes we have a file with 15 arboards and that will take more then 15 minutes to save. What is very long, illustrator is frozen at that moment.

   The resources of my PC are barely used (CPU & GPU at 10%)
   so there is allot of time that can be saved.

   So basicly i think you need to use more PC resources

   or

   optimize the multiple artboards save as process
   Now it seems to take every step with every artboard over and over again. What is not very smart/quick

11. Non esiste la possibilità di ri-utilizzare un file .ai in adobe Draw. Questo è un problema!

    Nel caso capiti di perdere o sovrascrivere un file creativo online (nel Cloud) dell'App Adobe Draw e si avesse solo l'esportazione del progetto in Illustrator (.ai), non esiste la possibilità di poter ritornare a lavorarci in Adobe Draw! Non esiste un file di scambio al contrario cioè da Illustrator a Draw! Questo può rappresentare un problema serio!

12. Hidden layers significantly increase exported PDF file size even when Illustrator editing capabilities are disabled

    When saving an Illustrator document as PDF, hidden layers appear to remain embedded in the resulting PDF and significantly increase its file size.

    I have a document containing several dozen layers. Only one layer is visible at a time and is intended to be exported as a single A4 page.

    When I save the document as PDF with all unnecessary PDF options disabled, including Preserve Illustrator Editing Capabilities, the resulting single-page A4 PDF is approximately 200 MB.

    I then tested the same document by physically deleting all hidden layers and leaving only the visible layer. After saving the PDF again using exactly the same PDF settings, the resulting file size dropped from approximately 200 MB to just 7 MB.

    This strongly suggests that Illustrator is retaining a very large amount of data from hidden layers in the PDF even though those layers are not visible and Preserve Illustrator Editing Capabilities is disabled.

    Steps to reproduce:

    • Create or open an Illustrator document containing multiple layers with artwork.
    • Hide all layers except one.
    • Save the document as an Adobe PDF.
    • Disable Preserve Illustrator Editing Capabilities.
    • Check the resulting PDF file size.
    • Return to the Illustrator document and physically delete all hidden layers.
    • Save the PDF again using exactly the same settings.
    • Compare the file sizes.

    Actual result:
    The PDF created while the unused layers are merely hidden is dramatically larger.

    In my case:

    Hidden layers present: ~200 MB
    Hidden layers physically deleted: ~7 MB

    This means that removing artwork which should not be included in the final PDF reduces the file size by approximately 96.5%, despite using exactly the same PDF export settings.

    Expected result:
    When Preserve Illustrator Editing Capabilities is disabled, artwork contained on hidden layers should not be embedded in the exported PDF and should not affect its file size.

    A PDF containing only one visible A4 composition should have approximately the same file size regardless of whether unrelated, invisible Illustrator layers still exist in the source document.

    Workaround:
    Physically deleting all hidden layers before saving the PDF reduces the file size from approximately 200 MB to 7 MB.

    This is particularly problematic for documents where multiple design variants or pages are stored as separate layers, because exporting each visible layer currently requires physically deleting all other layers instead of simply hiding them.

13. Increase save dialog text width for long filenames (Mac OS)

    Discussed this with Default Folder developers that Mac OS system dialog box's text width cannot be modified.

    Instead, can Adobe improve the save dialog to allow a wider responsive text box for saving filenames.

    Currently, filenames only allow 30 characters before it is hidden by the system's box size.

    Example filename structure:
    - Project Name + Title + 2020-06-20 File State.ext

    Sample name:
    - Adobe Feature Request 2020-06-20 IN PROGRESS.ai
    - Adobe Feature Request 2020-06-20 COMPLETE.ai

14. Better control over position of symbol in mapped classic 3d art

    When placing symbols for image maps in the classic 3D palette, I'd like to have more control over the position of the symbol to be mapped.

    Example: I'm using this function for mockups of labels on bottles. There are a number of bottles, each a different flavor, let's say 4. (The bottles are placed images.) I create a cylinder sized to the bottle image's label area, and map a label symbol to the cylinder for each flavor. The labels need to be in the same place on each cylinder, both size and position. And those 4 bottles with labels are multiplied by 2 or 3, depending on how many concepts there are. So, lots of noodling with the mapped symbols sizes and positions.

    This could take the form of, at the very least, a larger window for placement so you can actually see what you're doing, or fields for x/y and w/h values similar to how they are displayed for transform (but inside the mapping module).

    Another thought about expected behavior: if I copy/paste a mapped cylinder, and then go into the copy and change the mapped symbol to different symbol of another label of the same dimensions, the new symbol would be in the exact same size and position.

    I know you are working on adding mapped graphics to the "new" 3D effect, so maybe this will be added functionality? I know there are others who would appreciate it. When can we expect to try out this functionality in the "new" 3D effect?

    (FYI, I cannot share my company files in public, they're proprietary. But if someone wants to contact me I am happy to send screen shots or share my screen.)

15. Ability to change measurement type under "Art Board Options"

    When an artboard is selected, and ART BOARD OPTIONS menu is active, you can only see measurement in whatever type is already selected DOCUMENT SETUP - i.e. if you get a file that someone built under millimeters, but you work in pixels, inches etc, you have to close the OPTIONS and go back to DOCUMENT SETUP and start over. I have to check art board sizes dozens of times a day and I have to back up many times. A drop down menu under ARTBOARD OPTIONS to change measurement type would be helpful.

16. Color swatch import bug

    To illustrate the bug - I have a file named logo and a file named base. Both have swatches named PRIMARY and SECONDARY (see attached). As I place the logo into the base file - even as a preview - the PLACED file adopts the swatch colors of the base file. I literally need to do the opposite. I need the base file to adopt the swatches of the placed file. Needs to have an option to REPLACE swatches.

18. Support video placement for UX design

    Being able to import videos and make a design on top of a looping video would be super helpful for all of us product designers that need to see how the movement of the video impact on a design. This can help in websites and apps, and for presentation purposes it would be nice to be able to export the video.
    Right now to test a background video on a design you have to export the design and work on a new file inside a video editor.

19. Restore a way to copy the value from another filed with a click on the input’s caption in dialogs

    Please bring back the one-click way to duplicate a value from one input field into another for dialogs.

    This was available from version 8 through CS5.
    Make it a toggle in Preferences.

    For example, if i wanted to make a square 100mm x 100mm I would select the rectangle tool (M) and then click once in the work area... the dialogue box would come up... I would then only have to enter 100mm into the Width,
    then click on the Height descriptor (not the white entry portion) and my dimension would be automatically duplicated in the entry portion of the height dimension.

20. Create new document using current document settings

    I would like to be able to create a new document using the current settings in an open document; artboard measurements, bleed, color swatches, etc.

    For example, when I am creating logos I often iterate on multiple artboards until the client is happy with the final output. I would like to then create a new document so that I can copy/paste the final, approved, logo into a new doc so that I have a clean file I can share or link in InDesign documents.

    This could work as either an option in the new document window, or right clicking an artboard and having the option to "create new document from artboard"

I would like to then create a new document so that I can copy/paste the final, approved, logo into a new doc so that I have a clean file I can share or link in InDesign documents.
