  1. Save A Copy Action with current name of file

Currently, if you create an Action and go to File > Save A Copy... with a PDF Preset and in specific folder or desktop etc., it saves the file name that you create the Action with in the Action.
It doesn't update to the new file you are applying the action to. So if you run this action on several documents they all save over each other unless you manually change the file name in the operating system.
It would be nice if there was an option that lets you add the file name to which the action is being…

  2. More precision options for Dimension Tool

    Please add: 0"-0 1/8" & 0"-0 1/16" to Unit precision. I really need 3/8", 5/8", 7/8"...

  3. Make Increase / decrease font size hotkeys to respect chosen Font Height Options

    Font Height Options are amazing.
It’s almost a perfect feature to my taste... but when I hit Font Size Step Up / Down or Point Size Up / Down (Shift + Ctrl/Cmd + ./, and Alt/Opt + Shift + Ctrl/Cmd + ./,) — Illustrator adds the chosen Size/Leading value (from Preferences > Type) to the Em Box size anyway, and not the x-height or the Cap height I chose to work with.

So, say, with chosen step 0.5 mm and x-height 15 mm I get 15.267 mm instead of 15.5 mm as the next size up, or 16.335 mm…

  4. Allow the bullet behavior to be turned ON or OFF

I would very much like to have the option to turn the Bullet behavior ON or OFF. - Part of why I use Illustrator as much as I do is that I like to have complete control of my design. I use InDesign in a very limited, specific way, even with book layout, i.e. TOC & pagination. - For example, I'm trying to make headers for a short PDF and I can't add numbers before my headers without loosing control of the styling. They've been gobbled up by the bullet functionality and I can't even change the color. I…

  5. Adding gizmo feature in the 3d options

It would be nice if the scale, move, rotate gizmo would be added as an option. As we have in dimension. I found that it is more user friendly than the existing panel.

  6. Option to disable scroll bar to make the working area bigger.

I do not need the information in the scroll bar and all the information stored there.
Just add a little tick box in the preference menu to just not show them. I want my Illustrator clean.

  7. Selection panel - supercharged customisable selection options

    • A new Select panel.

*User-defined search permeameters with logical operators, and access to all relevant properties and object types in the document object model. Ability to extend and refine a search by multiple parameters.

*User-defined labels for objects, with which users can create their own custom searches (eg. ”figure”, ”house”, “red team”, “platform” etc.).

This would make me A Happy(er) Bunny.

  8. Allow to choose file version when saving templates

One of our designers still use old version of AI.
We need to share newly created templates (.ait) with her.
But AI doesn't give options when saving templates!
So I'm forced to save to .ai first, choose CS6 version and then change extension by hand.

Why can't I see same options for templates?

  9. Embedding Linked Illustrator content should embed the native content instead of the PDF version.

When you place a Linked Illustrator object (from a file or from a CC Library) and later decide to Embed it, you actually embed the PDF content of the linked file. This results in many groups, clipping masks, reduced editability (no Appearance effects, Symbols, Brushes) and loss of layers.
The optimal editable way would be to embed the native objects instead of the PDF version, similar to Copy and Paste with the Paste Remembers Layers option turned on.

  11. Make it easier as a new user to fill a shape

There's no fill or paintbucket tool. For new users this is really yucky. I am trying to use the paintbrush tool and I keep selecting a fill color since that is the only thing I can find that has anything to do with filling but as soon as I go to draw with the paintbrush the fill color I selected vanishes and is replaced with that no fill icon. It doesn't make any sense to me and is really hard to use. Why not make your interface more intuitive for these most common things people would want to do…

  12. Layer style effects - Bevel & Emboss, Drop Shadow, Outer glow...

Illustrator needs a panel for object effects similar to ID and PS.
Especially bevel and emboss effects. Affinity Designer has this option.

  13. Can't edit simultaneously two several selected fills in Appearance

AI allows to select several fills in Appearance, but you can only delete or duplicate them then.
If I select two fills with Shift+click, for example, and try to apply new swatch, it would be applied to first selected fill only. If I try to add effect — it would be applied not to both, but selected only again.

    A related entry,
Can't select and edit two effects from two separate fills in single appearance

  14. Delete unused empty layers

Would love to have the possibility to delete unused layers in Illustrator (like you can delete unused colors very quickly).

e.g. when you have 100 layers and only 10 layers have objects on them, but you don't want to delete every layer manually

  15. Allow for negative value input and Option click with Line Segment Tool

The original idea by Johan Perjus, from https://medium.com/design-bootcamp/things-i-wish-adobe-would-address-with-adobe-illustrator-4796a89e1bae

As you may know, holding down the Option key and clicking on your artboard with any of the shape tools (Rectangle, Ellipse, Polygon, Star) creates the shape centered on where you clicked, as opposed to the right and down from where you clicked. Please also apply this function to the Line Segment Tool as well as allow for negative value input in order to create the line in the opposite direction of the current angle value, just as you can enter a negative value to move an object in the opposite direction…

  16. Add Match Rotation to Global Edit Options

Global Edit has several options to narrow down the duplicates search.
These include matching appearance and size.
However, there is no way to make the tool to exclude objects that have a different rotation than the source object has.

Please add this option to the Global Edit Options dropdown and make it disabled by default.

  17. An option to display the background artwork when using Free Distort effect

As an example: Effects > Distort & Transform > Free Distort which has a dialogue box where you manipulate the effect but, the preview doesn't show the graphic within the context of your design (attached sample). Because some controls like Free Distort don't have a slider, or mathematical value we can assign, it's very challenging to manipulate the graphic with any contextual accuracy. For this particular effect, and others that have a similar user experience, if there was a live Preview, or a window showing it in context of it's area of the artboard, it would minimize the nudging/adjusting/clicking that…

  18. Export PDF with initial view set (ala InDesign)

You have just added the ability set the initial view on a PDF export in InDesign, and it is a GREAT idea. It saves me a Ton of time as a designer as I always set the initial view to "fit page" and "single page" when saving PDFs. With AI, I still have to do this after the fact by opening the PDF and doing it there and re-saving. Can you please add this option to AI as well? Thanks!

  19. The ability to adjust the width of a gradient line using the new Freeform Gradient Tool

The new Freeform Gradient Tool is great, except that it doesn't have an option to adjust the width of the gradient lines. I think there is no need to further explain why this should be useful, because it's such a basic feature.

To make it really powerful, adjusting the width should work like the Width Tool.

  20. Eyedropper shortcut

If I have a box with a gradient stroke (as an example) and I want to then fill it, if I use the eyedropper to grab the color from another object, it overrides and deletes the stoke. I would like to be able to use the eyedropper on fill or stroke without deleting it's counterpart. Right now it's a long process of clicking off my shape, eyedropping the color, copying the color value, reselecting the object, double clicking the fill or stroke, and pasting in the value. It adds up to a lot of time lost for something that…

To make Eyedropper pick and apply only fill, without modifying the stroke, you need to open the tool’s options, and uncheck the ‘Focal Stroke’ option in the left column. This will force Illustrator to ignore the stroke from the source object, and your target object will keep its original stroke.

Use other options there to fine tune the tool to your needs.
