1. Type in stroke width value instead of pull down menu in Character styles

   In Character Styles the stroke width only provides a pull down menu to choose from. It would be better if we could type in an exact value.
   The stroke width of texts needs to be very precise in my work, but the pull down menu is too limited to provide an accurate enough value. (The gaps between available options in the menu are too big.)

   When I create a new character style by selecting text and adding a new style, the style contains the correct stroke width. But when I need to adjust the width afterwards I can only pick from the pull down menu, and those values differ too much from the original value.

   The normal stroke palette works better - it allows to add a random value and unit.

2. Animated Zoom for Mouse wheel

   Please add the Animated Zoom function for the mouse wheel, now this can only be done using the "Z" key and the mouse movement. It is very inconvenient to scroll using alt + mouse wheel when the percentage of increase jumps from 66% to 100% in one turn of the mouse wheel. The trackpad on the macbook zooms very well, but it is not convenient to use. Add a switch to the "General" settings next to the scroll wheel " Use Animated Zoom to scroll with the mouse.

3. Gap Tool and Live Distribute like InDesign has, with improvements

   These allow us to control a gap’s size between chosen pair of elements (quoted):

   —Drag to move the gap and resize all objects aligned along the gap.

   — Shift-drag to move the gap between only the two nearest objects.

   — Ctrl-drag (Windows) or Command-drag (Mac OS) to resize the gap instead of moving it. Adding the Shift key resizes the gap between only the two nearest objects.

   — Alt-drag (Windows) or Option-drag (Mac OS) to move the gap and objects in the same direction. Adding the Shift key moves only the two nearest objects.

   — Ctrl+Alt-drag (Windows) or Command+Option-drag (Mac OS) to resize the gap and move the objects. Adding the Shift key to resize the gap and move only the two nearest objects.

   — Start dragging a selection handle and hold down the Spacebar while dragging. Continue dragging to change the spacing between the objects.

   Illustrator needs these options as well.
   However, we need more than it has.

   1. We need a way to numerically set these values too, not only interactively on canvas. The only thing we have now from the box is Distribute Spacing, and it’s rather limited.

   2. We need a way to specify the final dimension of the selection or the final position of the chosen edge (similar to the way this script allows: https://sysys.blog.shinobi.jp/Entry/96/)

   3. We need a way to choose an axis or the path (curves or straight) these gaps follow.

4. Graph Data Label Decimal Exision

   Previous versions of Illustrator's graph data labels matched the decimal points defined in the "Cell Style" field. The current version of CC removes any zeros at the end of the label - e.g. "3.00" is changed to "3", or "4.20" is changed to "4.2".

   According to Adobe's Customer Care, this is an intended behaviour - but could it be an optional one? Having to manually append zeros to hundreds of labels is not an appealing prospect.

5. Please bring back Cmd/Ctrl + Opt/Alt + Enter to Transform values to make a proportionally constrained copy

   Please bring back this “lost” features from earlier versions of Illustrator;

   1) When holding down COMMAND (CMD) when entering a TRANSFORM value + ENTER, one used to scale proportionally, just as with activating the “link values” icon to the right, only without having to link and de-link all the time ...

   2) I am sure the link is great for casual or more inexperienced users, but these key commands used to make my work so much faster. Also, holding down CMD + ALT used to make a new instance or copy with those new values, logical and consistent, somehow this feature was lost in more recent upgrades ...

7. Fix fonts in the symbol library

   When a custom-made symbol uses a font, the symbol is expanded and the fonts are eventually outlined, the fonts still show in the “Find Font” menu even know there is no editable text in the document.

8. Move anchor points in opposite direction relative to the object’s center point

   For years I have been hankering for a way to work with anchor points the same way as the width tool works or the option/alt modifier key works when resizing a shape with the selection tool.
   When two anchor points are selected I want to be able to move those points in opposite directions. Either attract or repel.

   Imagine there is a straight line between the two selected anchor points, when one of the points is moved away from the other point (pressing the modifier key) the point that is selected but not dragged should move in the opposite direction.

9. Leading / Line Height calculator (more Auto options)

   Illustrator now offers 120% as the default leading value.
   Changing it requires you to go to Justification dialog within the Character panel.
   The setting is global for the document.
   Changing the default value for all new documents requires editing [Normal Paragraph Style] in proper Document Profile (and default ones are reset every time Ai updates).

   Typography often requires more variety than just a value relative to font size.
   In real projects we have to calculate leading / line height based on line width, x-height... and also background, color, the font itself.

   While Ai hardly can do it all on its own (and it shouldn’t even try), having a way to quickly calculate a suitable leading / line height of an area type based on container’s dimension and the font size.

   Super wide lines (relative to font height) require more vertical space to help the eye to find the next line.

   Ultra short lines can have 100% or even smaller values.

   Obviously we don’t need these to be adjusted all the time we change the size of a container, and we don’t need it for each container in a document — unless we choose it. This should work as an option and a one-time operation.

10. Area Type "Inset Spacing" option to set different values for top, bottom, left and right

    エリア内文字の「外枠からの間隔」に天地左右で異なる値を設定できるようにして欲しいです。
    InDesignの「フレーム内マージン」ではできるので、Illustratorでも可能になればもっと便利です。

    I would like to set different values for the top, bottom, left and right in the "Inset Spacing" option of Area Type.

    It's possible in InDesign; it would be more convenient if it could be in Illustrator.

    Additionally, Japanese users often use Area Type to create tables. Different Inset Spacing makes it more adjustable.

11. Customizing any toolbar by right click on any empty space on it

    customizing any toolbar by right-clicking in an empty space as well as the three dots underneath any toolbar.
    Illustrator becomes popular for developers around the world and every day there is a new plugin to enhance working in Illustrator. but in some small resolution PC / Laptops when some plugins add new tools the toolbar becomes very tall and could not reach the (customize this toolbar) the three dots that arrange and customizing my tools.
    this feature will allow managing any numbers of tools as well as managing the toolbars itself. and it will improve the user experience related to the interface.
    please find the attached screenshot to see that this improvement is a must.

12. Select Fill or Stroke Does Not Make Selection Automatically Edit-Ready

    For years I have been frustrated with how anytime I want to edit fills or strokes, Illustrator seems to ALWAYS have the wrong choice forward in the tools panel! It seems to always know when I want to edit strokes, because it always has fills ready to edit in the foreground swatch and vice-versa! All these years I just felt is was some sort of voodoo thing, but I finally realized why this happens to me the majority of the time. I use Select>Same>Fill Color, Select>Same>Stroke Color, Select>Same>Stroke Weight all the time. The main reason I make those selections by targeting them in that manner from the Select Menu is because that is what I am getting ready to change in the artwork. So, if I choose Select>Same>Fill for instance, it would really be nice if AI would automatically switch the active swatch to "Fill" as well... and so on. This is not always the case of course, but 90% of the time that is what I am wanting to do. So it would be nice to at least have a Preference setting to enable that option for those 3 selection commands and maybe hold down the Alt Key when choosing to give the opposite swatch priority. This would save a ton of clicks!

13. Groups Created from Outlined Text Should Inherit Text Object Names

    When converting a text object to outlines, the resulting group is automatically given the default group name, which I find inappropriate. It would be better if the group inherited the original text object’s name.

    In cases where the user has not assigned a custom name to the text object, and Illustrator displays the actual text content as the object’s name in the UI, that same text content should also be used as the name of the new group after outlining.

14. Image Trace options

    I’ve been an Adobe user for over 20 years. I used to love using Streamline to convert raster to vector and then make adjustments to the levels before going to the direct select tool for further adjustments. I suggest adding in the adjustment/level options to Image Trace as Streamline used to have rather than just default vectorizing of images. Please do this. I’ve been meaning to suggest this for years. Thanks!

15. Aligned "Dashed Line": PLEASE enable for "Rounded Rectangle".

    The "Dashed Line" has an optional button that "Aligns dashes to corners and path ends, adjusting lengths to fit." for the "Rectangle Tool" (and the Star Tool, and the Polygon tool), but it doesn't work on the "Rounded Rectangle"! Why?

    Please make the "Aligns dashes to corners and path ends, adjusting lengths to fit." work for Rounded Rectangles, PLEASE.

16. Protect against accidental micro-adjustments during object selection

    There are many times, most often while I am either double-clicking to get into isolation mode, or selecting a layer as I am moving the mouse, where I accidentally move the object I clicked on a tiny bit.
    This becomes a problem on some pieces of artwork where math and/or high level accuracy are involved, and the adjustments are so minimal that they aren't noticed until its too late to undo.

    It would be really cool if Illustrator somehow detected or prevented against accidental unwanted adjustments. The idea occurred to me after seeing my phone attempt to block accidental screen touches, though I’m not sure how they do it.

    Possible idea for how it might be done in Illustrator:
    if an object or a path adjustment was made between very quick "mouse-click-on" and "mouse-click-off" events (less than 250ms is probably good), its highly likely, if not guaranteed, to be a mistake as nobody edits that quickly unless they are using a script (in which case there are no physical mouse clicks). An automatic "undo" command should be implemented in this scenario, and perhaps feedback in the form of a sound, or a visual cue with an icon next to the mouse cursor or something along those lines.

17. Create square artboards with Shift held when no artboards are selected

    Artboard tool does a lot of things: selects, creates, moves,.. we are out of modifiers to control it properly. Specifically, we can’t create square artboards with the natural way we can create square paths, circles with Ellipse tool, like in many applications.

    Instead, Ai uses Shift key to select artboards if you start holding Shift before clicking (which is fine) and uses ratio of the last selected artboard if you hold it while dragging (who even uses it?)

    What if you let us to create square artboards, when no artboards are selected, but Shift is held? The alternative is to get rid of proportions lock completely.

18. Add option to scale point type from the baseline, rather than bounding box

    It would be really useful to be able to scale text from the baseline - often I have text positioned in a layout and want to resize it, but as it scales from the bounding box it then requires lining up again.

    I'd suggest a tool that allows the user to scale from the text baseline. for multiline text there would probably need to be a way of selecting which line to scale from - maybe a first / last line toggle, and an option of placing a cursor and that would be the line to scale from?

    I know you can currently use the scale tool and click on the text anchor, but I find that really imprecise when working with small adjustments.

    The value would be time saving when iterating layouts, particularly with things where you're rebuilding artwork from reference and need to get type sized correctly and lined up.

19. Set type units individually instead of globally

    It would be really nice to allow the Cap Height and X Height to show in inches, independently from the Em Box units. I know this can be changed gloabally in preferences, but in my line of work, I need use pts for Em Box and inches for Cap Height, and I use them both in the same file for different purposes. I also know that I can just type in 3" in the box and it will set correctly, even though it shows in pts. However, memorizing the pt conversion for every height increment is ridiculous, as is having to change the settings globally each time. Every time I have to check or adjust the physical height of a letter I draw a box around the letter and check my transform palette for the height. It would be helpful to just look in the type box and see the letter height set at 6.75" or whatever height it is without various workarounds.

    It would be really nice to allow the Cap Height and X Height to show in inches, independently from the Em Box units. I know this can be changed gloabally in preferences, but in my line of work, I need use pts for Em Box and inches for Cap Height, and I use them both in the same file for different purposes. 20. Cannot key in units like cm, mm, etc.

    Hi,
    In the most recent update that I have, 22.1, the ability to resize an artboard by typing in a number and its unit has been removed. Was this intended? Please restore this function as it makes working with various units more convenient. Thank you.
