1. SVG Tiny 1.2 :: x/y attributes in svg element

   It looks like Illustrator believes that x/y are valid attributes for the 'svg' element when exporting as Tiny 1.2. Based on reading the spec, I'm not entirely sure this is true.

   This is expected to be fixed with the latest 28.5 build. Please check if it works for you.

2. Selection tool not working with Text

   Intermittently, the selection tool isn't working with my text. For area type, the bounding box will disappear (and "show bounding box" is enabled). When it re-appears, often there is a lag between when I move the text and when the bounding box follows it. If there is no lag, it is not uncommon for the bounding box not to move at all.

   OR my selection tool will (on area type) act only like a direct selection tool. And the transformation controls on each side of a rectangle of the type box will disappear. All I can do is use the selection tool like the direct selection tool and manually move each corner.

   Sometimes, when I click on one piece of type (area or point) another nearby type chunk will select instead. And any formatting I apply gets applied to the wrong text.

   Other times, I can't get the text to select at all. Or clicking on one piece of text will select something completely different (another line of type or a shape).

   This issue resolves itself if I close and reopen my document, however this is extremely disruptive to my workflow. It is also not a RAM issue- I just upgraded from 8gb to 16gb and had this problem on both machines.

   It seems to have started once I updated Illustrator or to High Sierra. For reference, I use an imac display monitor connected via hdmi cord to my laptop when working in illustrator. This issue happens whether I am working on the display screen or my actual laptop screen.

   Ive been working in illustrator for almost 10 years and I've never had this happen before (even on very slow machines in the earlier 2000s).

3. Unable to catch error that occurs when exporting empty artboard to PSD

   en_US

   When exporting Illustrator artboards to PSD using ExtendScript's exportFile, if the artboard does not contain valid PageItems, an error occurs and two alerts are displayed.

   
   

   The problem is that this error cannot be caught by a try syntax. It will stop the batch process with alerts.

   Also, if app.userInteractionLevel = UserInteractionLevel.DONTDISPLAYALERTS is used to prevent the alert, it is not possible to provide detailed information to the script user as to why the artboard was not exported.

   Ideally, the design should be changed so that the error can be caught, or even an empty artboard can be exported.

   Steps to reproduce

   1. open the attached file empty_artboard.ai in Illustrator
   2. execute the script in the Script to execute section or the attached file psd_export.txt (please change the extension to jsx beforehand)

   Expected result

   Errors will be caught and an alert "Caught error" will appear, then safely exit.

   Actual result

   The error penetrates try syntax and the alert is displayed twice. The contents are as follows:
   1. Empty artboard(s) were not exported.
   2. The operation cannot be completed because of an unknown error. [!SEL]

   The error 2 starts to occur in Illustrator 2022 and does not occur in older versions such as Illustrator 2021.

   Workaround

   • Use selectObjectsOnActiveArtboard, etc. to detect empty artboards by myself to avoid the error (to be precise, it is necessary to ignore isolated points and other PageItem that are ignored by the PSD export function by myself).
   • Generate a Rectangle of the same size as the artboard without fill and stroke in advance and export it for avoid the error. An empty image will be successfully exported.

   Environment

   • macOS 12.7.3, 14.3.0(Apple Silicon)
   • Illustrator 2019(23.1.1) to 2024(28.1.0)

   Not sure when this error started, but it reproduces in Illustrator CS6 too.

   空のアートボードをPSDに書き出そうとしたとき起こるエラーをcatchできない

   ExtendScriptのexportFileにてIllustratorのアートボードをPSDに書き出すとき、アートボードに有効なPageItemが含まれていないとエラーが起こり、2つの警告が出ます。

   
   

   問題は、このエラーはtryで囲ってもcatchできないことです。バッチプロセスをアラートで止めてしまいます。

   また、もしapp.userInteractionLevel = UserInteractionLevel.DONTDISPLAYALERTSでアラートを出ないようにした場合、スクリプトのユーザーになぜアートボードが書き出されなかったか詳しい情報を提供することができません。

   エラーをcatchできるようにするか、空のアートボードでも気にせず書き出すよう変更するのが理想的な設計です。

   再現手順

   1. 添付ファイルempty_artboard.aiをIllustratorで開きます
   2. 実行するスクリプトセクションのスクリプトか、添付ファイルpsd_export.txtを実行します（事前に拡張子はjsxに変えておいてください）

   期待する結果

   エラーはcatchされ「Caught error」とアラートが出たあと安全に終了します。

   実際の結果

   エラーがtry構文を貫通し、アラートが2回表示されます。内容は次の通りです。
   1. Empty artboard(s) were not exported.
   2. The operation cannot complete because of an unknown error. [!SEL]

   2のエラーはIllustrator 2022から出始めていて、それ以前のIllustrator 2021などでは発生しません。

   回避策

   • selectObjectsOnActiveArtboardなどを使い、空のアートボードを自力で検出してエラーを回避します（正確に言えば、孤立点などPSD書き出し機能に無視されるPageItemを、自力で無視する必要があります）
   • アートボードと同じサイズの塗り・線なしのRectangleを事前に生成して書き出すことで、エラーを出ないようにできます。ただし、何もない画像が書き出しに成功します

   環境

   • macOS 12.7.3, 14.3.0(Apple Silicon)
   • Illustrator 2019(23.1.1)〜2024(28.1.0)

   このエラーがいつからあるのかわかりませんが、Illustrator CS6でも再現します。

4. Clip groups snap to grid by their clipped contents and not the mask

   Snap to Grid option doesn't work properly for Clipping Masks.
   Instead of snapping the boundaries of the Clipping Mask to the grid, Illustrator snaps to the grid the bounding box of the masked object hidden under the mask.

   With recent changes made into the Snap to Grid, Ai no longer uses bounds of the clipped content for snapping, but uses the clipping object’s bounds instead.

5. Deselect All command is not active in Artboard mode and the hotkey select all instead

   When you pick the Artboard Tool, you enter a special 'artboard mode', and it modifies the behavior of standard 'object mode' commands.

   For example, pressing Cmd/Ctrl + A (Select All) will select all artboards instead of objects.

   But for some reason pressing Cmd/Ctrl + Shift + A (Deselect All) does not deselect all artboards, but selects them all instead.
   And if I try to call it from the menu, it will deselect objects instead of artboards (if I have any object selected) or just be inactive (if I have no object selected).

   This is hardly consistent and makes deselecting artboards a problem.

   One can say you can deselect them by clicking empty canvas... but the problem is that accidentally clicking an object creates a new object-size artboard instead, and not seeing empty canvas in a view is a common thing, and there is just no space you can click to deselect.

   The fix has been pushed into the latest 30.3 general release — the Cmd/Ctrl+Shift+A hotkey now works in the Artboard mode to deselect all artboards (but not the Object menu command).

   Please update, check, and comment back if it still happens.

6. Export for Screens via ExtendScript is slow and appears to have stopped

   Description:
   When I run Export for Screens via ExtendScript, it slows down and looks frozen. The rainbow cursor will appear.

   It actually works, and will finish if I wait long enough. It seems to take about 10 times longer than running it manually from the GUI.

   This is especially noticeable when exporting JPEGs. If the image to be exported is large to some extent, it will hardly progress after the progress bar reaches about 99%. CPU usage will be around 100%.
   Example: When exporting 8 1700x1000px artboards at 300ppi, it takes 157.636 seconds (the weight of each JPEG is 2.9MB).

   If I manually export the same conditions from the GUI, it will finish immediately.
   Example: When exporting 8 1700x1000px artboards at 300ppi, it takes about 2 seconds (the weight of each JPEG is 1.7MB).

   PNG24 is slower than manual, but it doesn't affect as much as JPEG. The CPU usage was around 160%.
   Example: When exporting 8 1700x1000px artboards at 300ppi, it takes 39.376 seconds.

   It happens under the following conditions.
   • At least Illustrator 2020-2022 (24.3.0-26.0.2)
   • At least 2 environments of macOS Monterey 12.0.1 (Apple Silicon) / Big Sur 11.6 (Apple Silicon)
   • At least two models of MacBook Air (Apple Silicon, 16GB memory) / iMac (Apple Silicon, memory unknown)
   • Run via ExtendScript Document.exportForScreens
   • Option JPG 100,300ppi (artboard size is 1700x1000px)
   • Include transparency in artboard

   It doesn't happen under the following conditions, or the delay is not so noticeable.
   • When executed manually from the GUI
   • When the option is set to JPG 100, 72ppi
   • When the option is set to PNG24, 300ppi
   • When removing the transparency from the artboard

   The following items do not seem to have much effect.
   • Whether to start Illustrator with Rosetta. Rosetta makes it even slower

   Expected behavior:
   When I run Export for Screens via ExtendScript, it works as fast as I do via the GUI.

7. Anchor points not displaying with layer color

   My anchor points are not displaying correctly. They are not the layer color and when objects are selected, they are a light gray and barely visible on a white or any color background. I've tried changing the layer color and that doesn't help and have checked any preferences that may have been changed, but still the same issue.
   Specs:
   Illustrator v 25.3.1 on an iMac 27" (late 2012, 2.9GHz Quad Core Intel core i5 with an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 66oM 512 MB graphics)
   Running MAC OS Catalina v 10.15.7
   Please help with any fixes. I've already restarted Illustrator and my computer a few times and no change. This seemed to have started after a recent update to the latest Illustrator version.

   My anchor points are not displaying correctly. They are not the layer color and when objects are selected, they are a light gray and barely visible on a white or any color background.    This issue arises due to problems with Apple's graphic rendering pipeline on older versions of macOS and has been resolved by Apple in macOS 13 and above. We request you to update your macOS to13 and above to fix this issue.

8. Pathfinder imprecise results

   Pathfinder distorts curves and these distortions create stray points and small vector artifacts when I "slice".

   This has been an issue from IL5 (pre-CS and pre-CC), when Pathfinder was first introduced.

   Until Adobe increased maximum magnification, it was hard to tell what was happening, but in CC I can clearly see that in Pathfinder, smooth curves distort. My guess is something analogous to mathematical rounding errors in defining the berzier curve.

   Sometimes, the distortion is very "squiggly", appears to be introducing the 'QuickDraw error (reported separately), and produces unusable results.

   While most of these errors and artifacts are essentially microscopic, and can be minimized by applying pathfinder to oversize art and scaling-down, it is still an issue and can be a serious problem if you're creating art that needs to be scaled-up to sizes where the errors and artifacts become conspicuous.

   If this does happen for you, please open your Pathfinder panel’s options and change the Precision value it has. Lowering the values improves results, especially on very long curved segments, but also increases the overall time a complex pathfinder operation takes.

   Please comment below if this advice helps — the team can use this feedback to reconsider the default value.

9. Actual Size view menu does not display at actual size...

   The new "Actual Size" feature under the view menu does not zoom to actual size. a 1" square is displayed at around 7/8" instead.

   there are two issues in this post
   1. Users want this feature to work on multiple monitors.
   2. Users want to have a view actual pixels for web drawings.

   for #2: we have an option to disable – You have to go to Preferences > General and uncheck “Display print size at 100% Zoom”.

10. Transform Panel in Properties – Nudge using arrow keys problem

    In investigating my own question from in the user forum (https://forums.adobe.com/message/10238447#) I discovered that there is a disconnect between the Transform panel that is embedded in the properties panel and the Transform panel that you access via the Window dropdown.

    The free floating TRANSFORM panel you access from the Window dropdown works just like it always did... when I put my cursor in the X, Y, W or H and click an up or down arrow key it first rounds to the nearest .125" then increases or decreases .125" at a time (assuming the units are set to inches).
    The Transform section embedded in the new PROPERTIES panel does NOT work properly. It only goes up and down in 1" increments.

    I am using Illustrator 22.0.1, and I do not believe this has been addressed yet.

    No longer a problem in recent versions

11. LAUNCH ERROR ISSUE - Google Drive File Stream

    Drive File Stream interfere with Adobe Illustrator CC 2018 on Windows 7 SP1 x64 bit.

    After installing Google Drive File Stream I get lunch error during Adobe Illustrator CC 2018 (icui18n.dll) and program runs with limited functionality.

    When uninstalling the google drive file stream everything works just fine.

    I shared the same issue with the drive file stream, so i just hope that it will not end up pointing fault one on another. Both applications are important to workflow.

    Here is some good news. We users who have confirmed that the issue is resolved when you install the latest version of Google File Stream.
    Please update to Google Drive File Stream 26.1.37.2022 or later

12. Syncing font from Typekit never works

    When opening a file that I have used Typekit fonts in, the missing fonts dialog box tells me they are missing, but are available to sync from Typekit.
    I have tried the following to restore my fonts

    1. Press "Sync" from the missing font dialog box inside illustrator. (this does nothing. it loads forever and never updates my fonts)
    2. Open typekit in browser, unsync and re-sync all fonts.
    3. Close file. Open typekit in browser, unsync and re-sync all fonts. Re-open file.
    4. Quit Illustrator. Open typekit in browser, unsync and re-sync all fonts. Launch Illustrator. Open file.

    NOTHING works.

    If above mentioned link does not resolve your problem Kindly collect the logs as mentioned in the e link and get in touch with us at any of the other support channels – https://helpx.adobe.com/support.html . Since this is not a generic issue that we can reproduce at our end, we will need someone to look into your machine to figure out what is going on here.

13. Cursor jumps while editing Font Family name

    When I try to change font name from HeliosCondBlackC to HeliosBlackC (both are installed), erasing part of the name, CC2018 moves cursor to the end (while CC2017 does not)
    I also have 'Entire Font name' option chosen (and never change it), but cursor still jumps to the end.

    I am happy to share that we have fixed this bug in our release – 23.1 which is available worldwide now.

    Going forward, our goal is to fix as many top User-Voice bugs as possible and as frequently as possible. Given the nature of the fixes, some of the bugs will take a longer time to fix, but we are on it.

14. Pattern Scale Not Working

    My pattern scale has stopped working recently for user created patterns (it works ok on the default patterns). Previously I could create a pattern but dragging into the swatch menu, and then when I dragged the corners, the scale of the pattern would adjust along with the size of my shape. Now it does not.

    I have checked that "Transform Both (object and pattern)" is selected from the Transform Panel dropdown, along with Settings > General > Transform Pattern Tiles is also checked on.

    This has been going on since late July 2025 - I've tried every troubleshooting method I can think of along with suggestions I've seen posted. This morning I reset my illustrator preferences (didn't work) and just unstalled and reinstalled Illustrator via Creative Cloud (fulling removing preferences during uninstall). It is still not working after the reinstall.

    Please help! This is a large part of my workflow that's affected. The ONLY way I can get a pattern to scale now is through cmd+click on object > Transform > Scale - which is cumbersome. Is there anything else I can try to reinstate the normal pattern scaling?

    Operating System: Mac OS Sequoia 15.6, Adobe Illustrator 29.7.1

    Seems to work fine in the latest general 2025 release, build 30.0.

15. Create Gradient and Create Swatch Info don’t get played in actions

    Swatches panel’s flyout menu now has two new commands, Create Gradient and Create Swatch Info.
    When we try to record these into actions, they get added fine — but once played, nothing happens at all: no gradient gets built, no color legend appears on canvas.
    As always, these new additions don’t get integrated into the application enough... Please don’t abandon them!

16. The ignoreWhite property of tracingOptions does not work

    Illustrator v 28.0 - Image Trace option check box for Ignore White has been replaced with Ignore Color and an eyedropper option. While I think this is a good addition for manual use, it appears to have somewhat broken the ability to use image trace properly in javascript as the change has made the original "tracingOptions.ignoreWhite = true" no longer work. I suspect there is now an additional option/variable responsible for the color to be ignored's selection but it doesnt appear to be refferenced in any of the current documentation. I've tried adding the method for Abutting (also undocumented) as to enable ignore white option. I've also tried to blindly implement an option for ignorColor to establish a color. but still can no longer use any script that depends on white being ignored from an image trace. This is a fairly sizable setback for my workflow which worked fine before the update. Any feedback on this issue (particularly if someone in the know can provide the options that now need to be set in a script for image trace to ignore white) would be greatly appreciated.

17. Illustrator freezes after computer date changes several times.

    Illustrator stops responding when the computer's date has changed. Photoshop and Indesign work well.

    As per our investigation, this issue is not longer happening. Let us know if you are running into this issue.

18. Align distribute center doesn't work

    Trying to use Align>Distribute center with Align to Selection selected - on a group of elements.

    Elements arent distributed symmetrically but seem to randomly distribute, some elements very close together and others very far apart. Same issue has been repeating since updating to 23.0.1. Working on MacOS Mojave 10.14.

    For example the attached 3 elements were aligned with horizontal center distribution, but the center object moved close to the left text block.

19. GPU bold fat offset artwork

    I have no idea how to properly name that bug, but here're images.
    This bug, once happened in document, stays at various zoom levels, after switching mode to CPU and back several times, stays after document closed/opened. Even after relaunching AI (he threw an error message also), bug stays!

20. Persistent Toolbar Rich Tooltips

    Tooltips are particularly buggy when using more than one monitor, they tend to persist and keep animating whilst users are attempting to focus on what they are doing within the interface.
