Illustrator won't open more than one file at a time.
I have version 21.1.0 (64 bit) running on Windows 10 (more system details in attached png). I am not able to open more than one file at a time. What happens:
- I open a file.
- I double click to open another AI file (other file opening methods have same results).
- Nothing happens. One file remains open. I might see the spinner mouse for a sec but the second file never opens.
- If I try to close the first file, leaving Illustrator open, and open a new file, Illustrator becomes unresponsive and I have to close it via the Task Manager.
-So every time I need to open a new file I have to completely close Illustrator and restart it.
-My co-worker with the exact same set up has the same issue.
-We're been experiencing this issue for at least a few months.
Please get in touch with us at sharewithai@adobe.com or any of the other support channels.
Since this is not a generic issue that we can reproduce at our end, we will need someone to look into your machine to figure out what is going on here.

we're in 10-2019 / Illustrator 23.1 now, I'm in contact with sharewithai@adobe.com since March and been instructed to download the newest nvidia drivers to solve this issue (twice this week and today with nvidia 441.08 version). Since then I see myself downloading gigabytes of updates and drivers on an almost weekly base and this issue comes back over and over again. Tired of this game!!!

I'm having exactly the same problem. Windows 10 machine as well. I never had a problem with Windows 7. That said, my Windows 10 computer was handling Illustrator 2019 just fine until I updated it a couple of weeks ago. I really need to open more than one file to do my work. Are there any solutions for this issue?

fyi: I have got a confirmation from support that it's an issue on Windows 10 systems that use Nvidia graphics. They referred me to a pre-release version of Illustrator CC 2018 that fixes the issue. -> highly unlikely that this will be fixed for 2017

Interesting: can't reproduce it on an Intel based laptop (integrated graphic) but facing it on an Nvidia GTX 750. Still in contact with support to dig deeper.
