Changing font by typing first character isn't working

Changing/selecting font by typing first character is not working
or scrolling with arrow has no preview.

    Select the text inside the illustrator and character panel is empty, never show any fonts be using. My computer didn't install the fonts but can display correctly in illustrator.
    When exported to PDF, can check the fonts is using Lora-Bold.

    I'm really frustrated and worries, how to check incoming files if always having this issue.

    Please help on this method.

    This is what I'm getting when opening the search for fonts. I don't see any usable list of fonts nor the typekit options .

    What could be the reason for such illustrator behavior?

    My font dropdown is no longer displaying any fonts, I updated to the most recent version. While researching it looked like this was an issue a few years ago...did this issue come back again or is mine broken?

    I found the work around. If I change the workspace setup from Essentials Classic to Essentials, all the fonts appear again.

    When I type something, the character panel does not show any fonts as an option. I have tried the dropdown menu to no avail. I found a work around a couple days ago but cannot remember what it was!

    Changing font by clicking in the character search bar doesn't bring up the drop down or show the font changing... it's acting really buggy

    Thanks for reporting this issue. Just wanted to check that in font drop down, is your search setting set to 'Search First Word only'?
