I can't change type size nor line spacing. Another one of an endless stream of "upgrades" Adobe tosses in my path. Adobe is making my life living ****.

Can you please try deleting the preferences and check if this resolves the issue?

This is also happening for me. I'm running on Mac OS High Sierra. Unable to change anything on the text panel. Also unable to enter down in text box.
