Close file when saving as a .PDF
This has been a HUGE problem since you guys changed the way Illustrator handles file saves.
When you Save As... and save as .pdf the .pdf file remains open and editable. Which if you are in a fast paced environment and forget to close that 'New' file, you are editing a PDF and when you close it out and try to reopen you are now faced with a non-editable Illustrator file (especially if you unselect illustrator compatiblity).
I have lost DAYS of work doing that one simple task, just so I could email a pdf for approval, and then get changes back only to fix the 'wrong' file.
PLEASE JUST CLOSE THAT FILE WHEN THE PDF IS SAVED.

That’s how Save As works. It creates a new file and replaces the opened file with it.
What you should do instead is to use Save a Copy instead of Save As — Option + Command + S. This will save a copy in background and keep the original document open instead of a newly saved one.
Just a matter of habit! Good luck and sorry for the lost time.
