Intertwine bug when export as pdf X4
mac os 12.6, illustrator 2023
create 2 intertwining circles, save as PDF X4 with the Illustrator default settings and you get a bitmap instead of vector data..
by choosing "compatibility: acrobat 8" the problem does not appear.
I am happy to share that we have fixed this bug in our latest release – 27.1.1 which is available worldwide now.
Going forward, our goal is to fix as many top User-Voice bugs as possible and as frequently as possible. Given the nature of the fixes, some of the bugs will take a longer time to fix, but we are on it.
You can update to the latest release using Creative Cloud desktop App: https://helpx.adobe.com/in/creative-cloud/help/creative-cloud-updates.html
Thank you for all the feedback. Keep it coming!

@Kirk
I had to select the intertwined object and then go to Object > Flatten Transparency.
When I saved it as a PDF I made sure to have it compatible with Acrobat 8.
This seemed to work for me.

Hi all.. I tried the new Beta version, I tried using the Acrobat 8 compatibility and this does not fix any of these issues. Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong, please? Or if this is going to be fixed. Thank you!!!!!

Here is adobe's feedback on twitter:
Hey there, thanks for reaching out. Exporting Intertwined objects as raster is an expected behavior in Illustrator, and our product team is looking into it. Kindly upvote the uservoice you have shared and add your comments. This will help us prioritize this request. ^AM

Unbelievable. I cannot print and I cannot export as PDF when Intertwined. The big feature you guys touted at MAX. Was this even tested?

In addition to the pixelated graphic in a PDF, which happens the Save As... path as well as exporting for screens, when I open the PDF file directly in illustrator, it is still a live, intertwined graphic.
The intertwined graphic does not print either, it is just an empty space where the graphic is.

hi @adobe, is there any news? the tool is unusual for printing in this condition.

@Adobe, keeping in mind the Document Raster Effect Settings is actually the bare minimum.

Rasterizes for me on PDF output, even with latest version. Tried a few different settings with no luck.
Did nobody at Adobe test export/save as PDF before launching this?

@Ravi Kiran
The anomaly in the overlapping area is separate from this bug. The Illustrator team should already be aware of this. -
Ravi Kiran commented
Overlapping portions break at certain places.

Intertwine applied object bug
・In the PDF area of Illustrator format files, applied objects are converted to 72 ppi low-resolution images.
・In the EPS area of Illustrator EPS files, applied objects are converted to 72 ppi low-resolution images.
・In X-4 PDF files, applied objects are converted to 72 ppi low-resolution images.
・In X-1a PDF files, applied objects are lost.Workaround:
1. Select all applied objects.
2. Object > Flatten transparency...
Note that the Acrobat 8 (PDF 1.7) compatible PDF do not work around this problem.----

PDF output is pixellated with all Presets - even with Acrobat 8 compatibility.
Also, overlapping portions break at certain places. -

:D sorry haha

Sorry Marcel, I was joking, the pixel problem is solved because there are no pixels, it is empty with x-1a.

Marcel commented
really? with what compatibility? when i save it as x-1a per default (acrobat 4 (PDF1.3) the file is empty.
