Type on path doesn't slide smoothly anymore.
Type on path doesn't slide smoothly anymore.
It seems like this no longer happens in the latest Beta 29.6 107, the sliding now happens smoothly as expected.
Please test it if you can to see if it’s safe to push the update to the general build.

Update: the Text Path Adjustment issue seems to be resolved. However, the Beta is rather rough around the edges still and I won't be able to use it as a replacement yet. After opening files saved from the Beta, the Layer colors in the Layers palette all go black like it recovered from a crash and many of the fonts used in the file defaulted to Arial Bold for some reason. I'm excited to use the finished version when it's all polished. Crossing my fingers.

Beta 29.6 107 installed and tested. I can confirm that the text path adjustments are buttery smooth again. Bless you and thank you!
I'll keep it up while I go about a regular work day and keep testing.

This is killing me. Please at least address the problem so we know you're aware of it and working on it.

When moving type placed on a path I am getting erratic behavior. For example, if the type is left-justified and I try to use the left bracket to slide the type along the path the distance between the bracket and the first letter will change, and the type will not move. Or if it does move, it does not move where I want it to. If I try to move the type, and encounter this issue where the type doesn't move, and then I try to edit the type itself sometimes it snaps into the "correct" position (where I left the handle).
This has been driving me nuts so I tried downgrading/upgrading versions to try and figure out when this started. After trying multiple versions (29.4, 29.3.1, 29.3, 29.2, 29.1, 29.0.1, and 28.7.5), I can confirm that this issue does NOT occur in 29.0.1, but DOES occur in all versions later than 29.0.1). I am running Illustrator on MacOS 15.4 on Apple Silicon.
Because this is a difficult issue to describe, I captured two videos to demonstrate. I attached to gifs to this post, demonstrating the issue in v29.1 (and later) and the type moving normally in v29.0.1.

When I am typing on a path, and I adjust the left and right handles, or the center-line, the type doesn't move as it should; it doesn't follow my movements. I can move the handles and the type stays exactly where it was, then I keep moving a handle and the type suddenly jumps, but it seems sort of random.
To recreate:
- draw circle
- select type on path and type something around the circle
- move the handles and see the movement is wrongConfirmed the behavior on both my laptop and desktop (Windows) machines.
The attached image show the handles in two positions but the type remains in the same place (wrong behavior) -

Where I work, we are working almost exclusively on curved text paths and this used to be a quick adjustment. Now it's a pain in the keister. It's almost like the text is snapping to something, but even on a new document with only text path and all Snap-To functions off, it still jumps. Please fix.

Please, fix the mobility (sliding) of the text when written on a line/path. It was working fine and now it's total ****.
