Issue saving document on hard drive after creating a pattern swatch, file won't save or AI crashes. Cloud document saves fine!
I keep recreating a pattern swatch to use on a social media image, and every time I go to save the document Illustrator either crashes completely or won't save the file and I have to start over again. Weirdly, saving to the cloud works just fine, it's only when I have to my hard drive on my brand new MacBook Pro. If I do any other work within the file, it will save. But if I create the pattern and use it within the file, the crash happens. Expected result is to be able to save the file on my hard drive and retain the pattern swatch in the file. Please help!!

Thanks Christina for sharing the file with us!
It is great to know that things are working for you now when you copied the entire content to a new file. Let us know if you encounter the same problem again.
On you locally shared original file, I tried to create the pattern out of the logo and it worked fine for me so it seems like a file corruption happening at your end only. However, we have got the stack trace from your machine as shared by you and we will work on this issue to fix in upcoming release.

Absolutely! I just tried to save the original file again and it crashed ha. I'll email the file to the address below. Thanks!

If you are able and still have the original file... even though you can’t save it, I get it... or remember the exact steps to make it happen — can you share it here, or send these directly to sharewithai@adobe.com, please?

I created a new pattern in a new file using the AI tool, added it to swatches, and the file saved just fine to my hard drive. I created a second pattern with just a basic rectangle shape - object > pattern > make, saved to swatches, and that one saved fine as well in the new file. My original pattern was based off a logo and now I'm wondering if my source file is the problem. I copy and pasted the logo into the new file, made the pattern again, and it seemed to save this time. I still don't know what the original problem was but at least it's working in the new file.

I did not try using this feature before the 29.5.1 release so I am not sure! I could re-install an older version to see if there is a difference and will also test the pattern defaults in a new file.

Also - Did it start with the 29.5.1 release?

Christina, does it happen with any pattern all, including one of those defaults Ai loads? Can you please test it in a new file?
