There are now several separate requests made, based on the feedback in this thread:
1. Regarding adjustable color and opacity for 3D shadows:

All those who commented on the topic until October 16, 2023, are already added as voters there. If this is something you want to have for 3D and Materials in Illustrator — please upvote it. If possible — create new requests and bug reports about 3D, rather than commenting here inside. This will help the team to better prioritize efforts on making the feature better. I am happy to share that we have fixed this bug in our latest release – 24.3.0 which is available worldwide now.
Going forward, our goal is to fix as many top User-Voice bugs as possible and as frequently as possible. Given the nature of the fixes, some of the bugs will take a longer time to fix, but we are on it.

Completely agree, this a Useful tool desperately needed as a native tool in Ai, external Plugins and software are expensive.
For those who use Windows, there is a script on the adobe exchange page, (there is not a Mac version :( ), from Alexander Chigintsev Developer...

The ability to convert outline text into live text will be available through the 'Retype' feature we recently shipped. The released version can identify fonts for now. Soon it will allow you to edit it as well. More details: https://helpx.adobe.com/in/illustrator/using/retype.html

Variable, editable, movable and positionable, save always upon save, date time, user, file path, etc, will be great future...

We have done further updates to Dimension tool with recently released version - 28.3
You can create and use your custom scale for dimension, hide or show units on dimensions and dimensions are now sticky to the object - they transform as well when you transform the object.

we need this inside illustrator as a tool, horizontal and vertical dimensions, if any other like angular will be ok, on its own layer, selectable units, scale 1:1 as main, other scales welcome.Mario

Must of us need to use dimensioning in our drawings to show our clients, please add some basic cad tools, I don't have extra money to buy expensive plugins like CadTools to use only a few of its tools and to pay for an upgrade every time Illustrator Upgrade as well

The latest Illustrator build (v29.2) now offers a way to see the distances between a selected object and an object hovered over / edges of an artboard.
- Click on the object you want to measure the distance from
- Press Opt/Alt and hover over the object that you want to measure distance to
- You can also hover over empty area to see the distance from the selected object and the artboard boundaries
Please try it and come back with the feedback.

Hi Everyone, This feature was shipped in Illustrator 2020 version. Please go to Preferences>Selection & Anchor Display > and check ‘Select and unlock objects on canvas’. Enabling this preference will display a lock icon when you select the locked object.
