An error occurred while saving the comment L Coyle commentedWow, Egor, that is weird. Can Adobe just make this easy? We want to make a mask, we want it to have a color, we want to be able to select it wherever we click, like anything else in Illustrator. And - we want to use compound shapes, and have it act normal!

The team has been investigating this problem in-house, and so far fails to find the exact steps required to make this happen. Seems to be either file- or machine-specific.
Please provide your full specs and try to come up with exact steps that lead to this.
A test file and a test video will surely help!

An error occurred while saving the comment L Coyle commentedAgree with Monika and everyone, we need to be able to format bullets separately and use other art for bullets, this feature is incomplete.

An error occurred while saving the comment L Coyle commentedWe know what program we're using, it says it in the top center of the window - please go back to having the word "Illustrator" alone on the left end of the menu bar. For Mac users with the camera cutout, there's limited space.

People who felt the need for this functionality : Can you please highlight what is the underlying need/problem that you are trying to solve? Why you need to see swatches on your artboard / canvas?
An error occurred while saving the comment L Coyle commentedThis would be an amazing addition to Illustrator. Having live swatches displayed as you need them next to the art - for presentation of color chips and for the functionality of having them attached to your art. I like option 2, and would love to have my global swatches next to my art that I can change and update the art. And what if Recolor Artwork could generate new global swatches (like it does for patterns and gradient swatches) when you recolor the art with the global color chips attached.

An error occurred while saving the comment L Coyle commentedOne of the most important functions missing from the iPad is that we must apply appearance settings after drawing, and we are prevented from drawing with transparency, brush stroke settings, etc. This is the basic behavior users expect from Illustrator.

An error occurred while saving the comment L Coyle commentedWe need to be able to copy and paste artwork from one iPad document to another and retain the layers. Currently, when you copy/paste, everything gets flattened into one layer, and it requires tedious workarounds to re-layer your art.

I agree completely! Can Adobe just make this easy? We want to make a mask, we want it to have a color, fill and stroke, we want to be able to select it wherever we click, like anything else in Illustrator.
