Ability to edit a graphic style in Graphic Styles
If I want to edit an existing and saved graphic style, I have to apply it to an object, go to Appearance, make changes, open Graphic Styles palette again and Alt+Drag object with style over style thumbnail (or dig into the menu to redefine it). This is very long way.
If I just select a style and go to Appearance and make changes — the link between style and appearance will just vanish (the name of style vanishes), these changes will apply only to new art, and style itself won't be changed (unless I redefine it immediately).
Please, make a…35 votes -
Fix bugs and add requested features
Instead of adding new features that nobody has really asked for, how about using resources to add the features ACTUALLY REQUESTED HERE and fix the bugs WIDELY REPORTED HERE?

uninstall
how about making uninstalling this app normal like the rest of the software builders? You guys made a 5 minutes uninstall a ******** 2 hour task for me forcing to update creative cloud, creating an account so I can login to remove illustrator. I remember this next time I decide to download an adobe software.

Illustrator CC 2019 (oct) NOT as default program for file extension .doc
Just upgraded to Creative Cloud 4.7.0.400, from 24.09.2018 on Windows 8.
Weirdly my E-Mail client suddenly opens .doc-files in Illustrator CC. I checked Windows 8's default program setting for file extension .doc ... it's still set to "Word". The E-Mail client (Opera Mail) is pretty slim and itself has no way of setting file extension behaviours - it's depending on the systems settings.
The Bridge's file extension dialog in Bridge settings does not list .DOC files, so it's not set to illustrator there either.
However if i go into windows file extension settings again, highlight .doc and click "edit program"…

Toggle View Assets outside the Artboard
One of my favorite features in indesign is being able to toggle between a work view and a final preview view that make all grids, tools, and artwork outside the dartboard invisible so that I can see how the final composition looks on the page, and I think that would be a great feature for Illustrator, where areas outside the dartboard can be a jumbled mess of old work and saved previous versions, or artwork that peaks onto the page but hangs off it as well.

Live effects
I hate drawing comparisons between applications because I believe it's utterly unfair in most cases. This is not one of those cases. I believe wholeheartedly that we've reached a stage of computing where we can get rid of the "Preview" button in the effects panels. Let's do it. I've not seen a solid step forward in how effects are created, previewed, edited, and handled since I began using Adobe apps in CS4. Affinity is doing this. And it's buttery smooth. And I'm both jealous and confused that Adobe doesn't have this. It's the sort of thing that you remain blissfully…

Have swatch tooltips show actual CMYK or RGB values
I'd like the swatch tooltips to show the actual CMYK/RGB/HSB etc. values instead of the user created name. Or, at least have the "Name with Color Value" checkbox, like InDesign does.
In a document where i have numerous color values that can sometimes be one percentage point of difference from another, this would be helpful in grouping them and then merging those near identical colors.

Update is way too advanced
Every single update should not change the basic fundamental functions of AI.
I am someone who is learning and having to relearn when just getting the hang of how to use this app comfortably really irks me.
In addition, i have an uncountable amount of talented peers who use this software and they do not even understand how to work with many of the updates.A huge example i can give:
Why can you not drag a photo to make it smaller or larger anymore? Also, why can the user not add FX to fonts and see what it does…

Make ripple Artboard tool in Illustrator
As someone who uses Illustrator to design much of my artwork for animation in After Effects there's one tool that I find I constantly need and instead just muddle through manually cutting, copying and pasting.
It'd be great to have a tool in AI that would insert a new Artboard between say frames 9 and 10, and then move all the artwork from frame 10 on up to the next artboards (frames 11, 12, 13, 14, etc.) I think of like a ripple edit tool. You can insert or delete a frame (artboard) and the artwork on all the artboards…

convert low res images to high res
I'd like an option to convert a low res image eg. 72 dpi which can be converted to a high res image 300 dpi for printing in one click.
Currently, you would have to redraw the image to create a higher resolution. image for printing which can be time-consuming. People are always giving you a web resolution (72 dpi) and wanting you to create print documents using it. This would be a huge technological win for all designers everywhere.

Transfer files from Illustrator to Draw
It's easy to put files onto Illustrator from Draw, but there's no way to put them back in. I'd like to be able to seamlessly go between the two.

Fix the Libraries issue in all Apps
I've noticed that this issue goes back a few years and I haven't found one fix that's permanent. It notifies me that I need to sign in even though I already am.

Clipping Mask with complex objects
I'm trying to clipping mask an object not that complicated (1000 points) and Illustrator says it's to complex (really?). But if I do a "paste inside" with Indesign, Illustrator allows the Clipping Mask.
It's crazy since Illustrator should be the right software to work with multiple points vector.

Add "Crop Image Data to Frames" option to PDF Export (after first adding PDF Export).
InDesign can crop image data to frames, which can significantly shrink PDF files. Why is this long existing InDesign feature missing from Illustrator? Please add it. There is no excuse.

better handling for Print to Laser Machines
sending a job "print" to laser machine Illustrator is quite slow and doesn't handle vector and bitmap below 333 dpi.....
I had to switch to corel draw to be able to "print" vectors @ 0.001 and bitmaps at 250 dpi.... in illustrator it reads vector with at 250 dpi as bitmaps! (dpi should not matter for vectors)

wacom
Have been unable to transform using my Wacom intuos pro in illustrator for the last few versions. The selection tool constantly defaults to rotate the object unless I zoomed right in. It is incredibly frustrating for workflow.
I have contacted wacom who advised the issue is with Illustrator and not the tablet.1 vote -

Improve snapping strength
Currently, there is a "snap to point" feature in illustrator. However, I find that it works poorly. Often, I create guides, create geometric shapes on those guides, and move them overlap, join, or intersect to make new shapes. Currently, when I create a shape, I notice the shape will snap to a guide, but when I zoom in all the way, it will not be exact. Also, when I try to move two shapes together, I will experience the snapping effect, but it often is not lined up when I zoom in.
Is it possible to improve the snapping to…

Add menu items and tools to custom panels
It's great to make custom toolbars, but what I really need is to create PANELS with toolbar buttons. Then I can dock them, make them retract automatically, etc., just like any other panel.
This way I can produce sets of very specialized panels that snap alongside the related settings panels.
It's not visually helpful to be forced to keep ALL tools in just one or two columns! There is no user-based reason that a toolbar can't be made square, or docked with the other panels.
Of course, ultimately I just want a very easy, drag/drop way to make custom panels…
