  1. Intertwine needs a better way to display order operations rather than hiding them in a context menus

It’s not clear we can chose methods other than 'swap order' for cases when a freshly created intertwine zone has several possible solutions. Illustrator draws and edge around the current zone (quite poorly signaled, which is a different topic: https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/601447-illustrator-desktop-bugs/suggestions/45845602-make-intertwine-edit-mode-telegraphed-better), but then a single left-click just swaps and immediately ends editing the zone.

The fact we can click on the highlighted segment with a right mouse button and choose an order is not very obvious... because — let’s admit it — Illustrator can’t do context menus very well and we are not used to have anything really 'contextual' in…

  3. Image Trace results have deteriorated over the years, detail is lost and line work looks terrible!

I’m a full time illustrator and have been using Adobe Illustrator since the launch of CS - so it’s been years :) I LOVE the app, in fact it’s how I make my living as an illustrator and the app features have contributed to my style development and workflow.

Which brings me to the feedback I’d like to give regarding the Image Trace tool. My illustration style is a mixture of hand crafted, grungy texture and flat colour. I achieve this by creating pencil on paper line work, scanning then I image trace in Adobe Illustrator to vectorize. BUT, I…

  4. Put all Blend options and commands into one dialog / panel

Blend Tool > Blend Options Panel stinks, nothing personal.
I use the Blend tool. A lot. When I start a blend, the Properties Panel helpfully tells me that I have a Blend. Thanks for that. But I still have to go to Object > Blend > Blend Options to get any options for the Blend tool. What if the Blend tool options would magically appear in the Properties panel while I'm using that tool?

Also, the Blend Options panel will not let me make any changes to the blend other than Spacing or Orientation. How about putting the other Blend…

  5. Group Overlapping Objects

A very casual and time-consuming operation, especially because we lost Object Lasso (https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657-illustrator-desktop-feature-requests/suggestions/44462988-bring-back-object-lasso-tool) — drag a marquee around objects, hit Gtrl+G, drag another, group again... repeat dozens of time, especially if you draw icons or something similar for stocks.

What if Illustrator was able to do it for us?
Scan the selection, search for overlapping objects and create groups?

What if it could do that in two modes: simple, by intersecting boundaries, and advanced, when true outlines being checked?

What if it could do that with a tolerance also? Like if object are, say, 10 pixels…

  6. warp tool - bloat tool

I have several suggestions on this tool :
1 - warp tool and bloat tool should have the same sensitivity. Now, with the same intensity they react extremly differently. I often have to open the dialog box, which is laborious so :
2 - Find a way to adjust the tool without opening the dialog box,
ALt + click = change the size
Alt + Shift + click = change the size proportionaly
Alt + Ctrl + click = change the intensity and voilà!
3 - Is there a way to keep my tool setting, because it is very laborious…

  7. New Tool Idea: "Drag Draw"

I've developed a novel way of drawing vector shapes using a delayed "drag point" method which at first seems counter-intuitive, but is actually closer to the way people draw with pens and brushes, because the drawing point is distanced from the moving point by a controlled amount (as if drawing with a chain), smoothing out the resulting line. My working demo was built in Javascript and can be observed in the attached video, but would be much more powerful within Illustrator and Photoshop. The tool I created allows me to export SVGs and gives me the ability to…

  9. Can you provide extra steps in UI Scaling, please? For my dual screen config., it would be ideal if there was at least one step between.

As above. 2 steps between each existing would be ideal. It's only a little thing, but I use the middle setting at the moment, the Tools Pallet starts in 2 columns and I have to click it to 1 each time - the bottom bit gets trimmed off but that doesn't matter. If I set UI Scaling to the smallest size, then the Tools Pallet remains as I have set it on my workspace, but way too small.

  10. Progress bar for the new Smooth tool

I love the new smooth tool! When it comes to contour lines in a map, It perform so much better than the simplify tool. The only problem is that when I smooth lines in large documents, Illustrator freezes but the cpu is on fire so I'm not sure if it's working or if Illustrator needs to be force quitted.

Therefore I propose a progress bar for that tool which appears after one has moved the Smoothing slider.

  11. Allow freeform gradient points to leave boundaries

In the freeform gradient tool if points are dragged outside of the boundaries it deletes the point. Instead I think it would be better if the points worked outside boundaries to allow for smoother gradients.

See example on how a freeform gradient would appear if points could used outside of the borders (you can currently do it by using a clipping mask but it would be easier if it was built into the tool)

  12. Panelize Blend Options, Offset Path, etc.

In pre-2020 Illustrator versions, the Path -> Simplify tool was a window. Post 2020, it got changed into a live panel which, when opened, doesn't halt the focus and lets you change settings while you move around the artboard with the Hand tool or Zoom in or such.
It is sadly the only "classic" Object tool that got this treatment. Other tools, especially Blend Options, Offset Path, Envelope Distort with Warp, etc. would benefit greatly from similar panelisation. It's not a great user experience that I can't zoom or pan while I'm trying to offset my path.

  13. Add RANDOMIZE button (RANDOM SEED) for 3D Materials like Substance 3D has.

Add a Randomize button (RANDOM SEED) for the sbsar materials that we import when working with 3D within Illustrator. This way, 3D objects, look different within your work. Example from Stager as to what I mean that would like implemented in Ai.

  14. Pinch to zoom for Illustrator while the free transform tool is active.

When I have something selected and I activate the Free transform tool, pinch to zoom no longer works, this is my primary method of navigation. This block forces me to go back to the selection tool and then zoom in and then return to the free transform tool then I had. I don't like that it's very inconvenient. I am on a laptop and have the latest version of Illustrator installed.

  15. Export for Screens: Option to include file- and artboard-name automatically.

Ok the "Export for Screen" option is kind of nice, however it takes far too long to set everything up....

    1. The areas to type in are far too small.
    2. Automation is week a. where can define that all images will get the file name of the original *.AI file. b. why does it keep the old folder location? Set an option to export is where the original *.AI-file is located. c. Where are some presets? Wouldn't it be awesome to have some user-defined presets? It would be.
    3. The images are to small
    4. There are to many clicks,…

  16. Angular Smart Guides for everything, similar to those Snap to Glyph has

There is a lesser known Snap to Glyph command in context menu, which allow you to snap to any live glyph under cursor. It requires Smart Guides and Snap tp Glyph commands enabled (and Snap to Grid disabled).

Once you enter the mode, the chosen glyph is highlighted with a rectangle, and you are able to construct new art relative to points of this live glyph, as if it was outlined.
These guides are green, similar to normal Glyph Guides, but some guides are unique to this mode, like the 'angular' one — which allows us to build on a…

  17. There should be a way to Unlock All items in opacity masks

Stock agencies reject artworks if they have locked items in their opacity masks.
It means that these agencies probably have automated solutions to check for issues like that... meanwhile, Illustrator, the leading software to create vector artwork, has none.
The workaround would be to check each potential object manually, or use scripts that still have no chance to fully check the problem because of certain limitations.

Basically we need a strong Preflight tools. There are some (like Vector Inspector Pro), but a native one could be faster and more efficient, if done correctly.

  18. Make units and grid settings to be bound to file

I work for screen and print media simultaneously in different files
    I work in metric units.
I need to have 'mm' for general-stroke-type in design for printing and 'px' in other file for screen.
I'm so tired to change units every time I Ctrl+Tab between them. By hand, every time!
Ctrl+Shift+U change only general units, and I have to skip all picas-inches I never use.
I have to Ctrl+K, click Units and drop down three menus every time I need to see units I need in file I need!
PostScript is cool, point reassigned as a strict fraction of an…

  19. Symmetric Curve while using Pen Tool

As in Corel Draw if we are using a "Three point curve tool" we can make it a symmetric circular shape curve by simply pressing the shortcut "SHIFT" key.
I think it should be in illustrator with the pen tool. We could make it circular by pressing any shortcut key. as most of the time symmetric circular curves are required instead of simple smooth curves.

  20. Anchor point sliding (reposition point tool)

It would be nice to have an Anchor Point Slide function that transfers the anchor's position along the path without disturbing it, the same way nodes work in a 3D software. I find it very frustrating when I'm trying to reposition an anchor point without altering the path, but there's no way to do that.
