1. Launch Illustrator with the same opened documents tabs from closing

   I would add this option that would basically skip the home screen and launch straight into the last open documents from the last time I closed the app.
   This is very convenient instead of clicking through each document from the home screen.

   I guess this could also just become the main behaviour for closing Ai so if you instead want to get rid of all the open tabs you could right click on one and click "close all tabs"

2. Auto-generate an opacity mask from the Appearance palette

   I've been experimenting with ways to create soft edges and stylized natural textures in my work. I find myself wishing for this to be able to quickly and easily create, say, an erratically faded and mottled edge to a filled path by giving it an opacity mask made up of a jagged white-to-black fade pattern brush, plus some black spots from a scatter brush.

   I would like to be able to add strokes and/or fills to a path via the Appearance palette, and have these paths show up in an auto-generated opacity mask for the path instead.

   Possibly this might be done by having a 'create opacity mask' live effect, with the 'clip' and 'invert mask' options available, that I could then place additional strokes and fills within.

   Alternatively there might be a way to say 'this fill/stroke goes in the opacity mask' - probably also a live effect.

   Multiple strokes/fills set to go into the opacity mask should all end up in the same mask.

3. Allow Brush with tool to scale a pattern brush properly.

   When I use the width brush on a pattern brush, it scales the brush on all of the path to the widest bit used. I'd like it to scale only in the width direction, where I'm using it.

4. Drawing custom perspective grids

   Most projects don't start in Illustrator or need at least some kind of reference to draw around - for example a product picture or rough sketch. So in most cases Adobe's perspective tool in Ai is absolutely useless. There is simply no way to always find the right perspective in your reference with that tool!
   Many professionals draw custom grids with the help of an odd star with very long and thin end points. They draw one, two or three stars depending on how many vanishing points they have. This is a super old and powerful technique of illustrators and anime artists - but there is no such thing in the same called program to help... We need a more usefull perspective tool with the feature to shift your objects on to one side, floor or ceiling like Adobe's tool does. That's genuinely a good feature but the setup of this grid is just a drag! Make it as easy as drawing to lines on your object that are likely to touch each other when extended and BAM right there will be a star with as many endpoints as you like or just even a slice, not a full circle.

5. Artboard delete tool

   This is really nitpicky but the little X at the top right of the artboard tool is too small and more often than not I end up creating a new artboard around the object at the top right of the artboard. Possibly make the cross larger or move it somewhere else to remove this problem?

6. Select items in Layers in sync with objects on canvas

   We have to work with a strange legacy dichotomy when making a selection in Layers is NOT equal to making a selection on canvas and vice versa.

   No other vector application does it like this:
   XD, Affinity Designer, Corel Draw, Figma, Xara, Inkscape...

   Other apps which have layered structures don’t do this also:
   Photoshop, Blender, 3DS Max...

   InDesign and Illustrator are lonely black sheep in the flock of apps.

   We need a mode (as an option) to be able to sync both selection methods.
   Clicking an object on canvas should highlight the name of it in Layers.
   Clicking a name of an object in Layers should select this object on canvas.

   Yeah, we can wrap it an an action and spend a precious F-keys to robotically press it after each selection, which is twice dumb, because an action which has only one operation in it is a bad action. Every command in Illustrator should be assignable to a hotkey.

   And also we have three places to click in Layers to select an object:
   1. Names, largest and most easy to click areas — clicking does nothing to select objects though
   2. Target buttons, small circles, which are in fact just indicators for the custom appearance applied — clicking them both targets and selects an object, all their children (except locked and hidden), and it’s the only way to select objects on canvas via the panel. Also it support selecting ranges with Shift held — after we begged for it for 3 years (here is the request about it: https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657-illustrator-desktop-feature-requests/suggestions/19196674-select-more-than-one-layer-at-once).
   3. Selection markers, which are indicators too, but again can be used as buttons... but without the ability to select ranges with Shift. In fact, Shift here works as Ctrl/Cmd should, and Ctrl/Cmd does nothing. I have no hypothesis why. Markers can be displayed as small and large, meaning partial (some children are selected) and full selection (all children selected).

   Finally, I can see why the current approach can be useful. This allows us to put some objects in an existing group, to reorder, to move to another layer, to switch visibility or lock in mass — via a stupid dialog... without messing up with what is selected on canvas.

   Is it worth the hustle though? 7. Allow to see what file has changes when opened/imported, and allow to bulk the choice

   When I try to open several .ai documents at once (many at once), Ai warns me about the changes someone made to some of these.
   ...but it doesn’t show me clearly what document this warning refers to (no, look at the 'the current tab' is not clear enough) and won’t allow me to apply this choice to all the document I open, forcing me to click like dozens of times. This is murky and exhausting.

9. Allow to set key object inside compound path

   When you isolate a group, you can set any part of selection inside this group as key object just by clicking it with Selection tool. This is great — I can align objects inside a group, yay.

   But why I can't do the same inside of an isolated compound path?
   Why can't I align parts of my compound path using another part of same path as a key object, as I can do inside groups?
   Please, fix this.

   I try to align squares to the left side of the square hole (I made a guide to show the intention). But when I select them all and the hole only, mark it as a key and try to align — it all jumps to seemingly random spot, hardly matching my desired results.

10. QuickLook Preview Support for EPS Files on macOS via Adobe own framework

    As of macOS 15 (Sequoia), Apple has officially removed all system-level support for rendering Encapsulated PostScript (EPS) files in QuickLook. This change began in macOS 12 (Monterey), when Apple deprecated the internal PostScript conversion frameworks (notably PSNormalizer.framework), and culminated in macOS 14 (Sonoma) and 15 (Sequoia), where these frameworks were entirely removed.

    Historically, Finder’s QuickLook preview for .eps files relied on these system frameworks to convert PostScript content into a previewable image. Many third-party applications (including Illustrator) used the same system calls to provide file previews. Even QuickLook plugins like Illustrator.qlgenerator or others that claimed .eps support were not rendering the content themselves—they merely invoked Apple’s system renderers under the hood.

    Now, all such plugins are broken:
    • .qlgenerator-style plugins are no longer supported or loaded at all in macOS Sequoia.
    • System EPS rendering components (pstopdf, cgps, PSNormalizer.framework) are removed.
    • Even if an EPS file contains an embedded preview (e.g. a TIFF or low-res PDF), macOS does not expose this to QuickLook.
    • Applications like Illustrator or Affinity can still open EPS files, but no longer expose any preview capability in Finder.

    Some unofficial third-party utilities have begun to implement their own QuickLook Preview Extensions (using the modern App Extension architecture), embedding their own PostScript interpreters (such as Ghostscript). While this restores basic EPS preview functionality, these solutions may rely on reverse-engineered methods or contain licensing gray areas due to the proprietary nature of PostScript.

    This leaves professionals—designers, publishers, illustrators—without a reliable, secure, and officially supported method to preview legacy assets in EPS format, which are still common in stock vector libraries, archival graphics, and prepress workflows.

    We propose the following feature request:
    Please consider developing an official Apple QuickLook Preview Extension for .eps files, bundled either with Adobe Illustrator or the Adobe Creative Cloud Desktop app.

    Such an extension would:
    • Support QuickLook previews in Finder and column view (via QuickLookPreviewingExtension)
    • Use Adobe’s own EPS rendering engine internally
    • Require no user interaction or app launch — just press spacebar on an .eps file
    • Work on both Apple Silicon and Intel Macs
    • Respect the EPS file’s embedded previews when available
    • Safely handle untrusted EPS content in a sandboxed, non-executable rendering context

    This would solve a real and growing pain point in modern macOS workflows. Currently, users are forced to open files manually in Illustrator or rely on potentially unsafe tools—hardly an ideal user experience in professional environments.

    We believe Adobe, as the originator of the EPS format and the leader in professional design software, is best positioned to provide a secure, performant, and standards-compliant solution.

11. Reinstate the Full Retype Editing Functionality

    I have been a dedicated user of Adobe products and have greatly appreciated the advanced features that facilitate creative workflows. One such feature was the "Retype" function which allowed users to edit text directly within images. This feature was incredibly useful for many of us in the creative and professional fields, as it streamlined our processes and enhanced productivity.

    However, the Retype feature now seems limited to only identifying similar fonts rather than enabling direct text editing within an image. This limitation has significantly impacted the utility of this tool.

    Could you please consider reinstating the full functionality of Retype that allowed text editing directly within images? It was a distinctive and valuable feature that contributed to richer, more flexible creative processes.

12. Text frame coordinates are different "before undo" and "after redo"

    Version: Illustrator 29.7.1 (but occurs in earlier versions as well)

    Problem:
    Text frame coordinates become inconsistent after undo and redo.

    Reproduction Steps:
    1. Create point text with two or more paragraphs
    2. Move arbitrarily (required)
    3. Resize (using the dialog of Scale tool)
    4. Undo
    5. Redo
    In the above steps, the result of step 5 is different from the result of step 3.

    Desired Result:
    Steps 3 and 5 must match

13. Export X, Y, W, H and angle to a text file or Excel format?

    Please add a feature to allow AI to export X,Y,W,H and angle to a text or Excel file.
    I have a need to get the coordinates and sizes of buttons (in pixels) for my Touch screen. After you design the image for LCD. You will need to know XYWH and angle for touch purpose. It will be good to have AI to send those information out to a file (not image).

14. Add data attributes to elements for SVG export

    I'm using data attributes quite a bit these days, and have been experimenting with using them in SVG. They work very well, as a way of adding metadata or parameters to elements that can later be read by javascript/ES.
    But (of course) no support in illustrator for this feature. Worse, if I add them with another tool, then open the SVG in Illustrator, they get stripped from the document entirely. This is just stupid.

    Best of all, a data-attributes panel, very similar to the variable panel, but without the redraw bugs. Workflow something like this:

    Select an art object.
    Go to/Open data-attributes panel.
    Click + or select Add attribute from popup corner menu.
    Add (e.g.) "mood" with value "happy"
    Export SVG

    Corresponding element has data-mood="happy" in the markup, which can ne retrieved via javaScript.

    This would not just make me happy, but would also be very useful.

15. An option to limit Select > Same / Object commands to the current or specific artboards

    I would like the ability to use the "Select" tool to select similar items that appear only on one artboard. Illustrator will now select all similar items throughout the document, on all artboards. I need to be able to select similar items on a single artboard without affecting other artboards. This would save me a tremendous amount of time.

16. Live preview of gradient (while dragging)

    Whenever I'm using the gradient tool I wonder why I can never see the appearance of the gradient while dragging it. resulting in having to tweak it at least a couple of times before I'm content.

    Illustrator now displays the appearance of the gradient interactively when you drag it, but only when GPU preview is on.

    Make sure it is on in Preferences > Performance > GPU Performance, that you View > Preview on CPU / GPU Preview is correctly toggled, and that you are not using Overprint Preview.

    If the issue still persists with all these checked — please comment back.

17. PDF Comment Tool

    I like to design website visuals in Illustrator and add PDF comments in Acrobat but doing so means I need to re-add all the comments each time I save a new version of the PDF.

    It would be great if there were a commenting tool in Illustrator that would export to PDF comments so I can add notes as I create artwork, rather than going back and doing it after each export.

18. presets for pen pressure

    hi
    as we have in photoshop a lot of presets, i would love it if you can make presets options on illustrator for tools with pen pressure/tilt etc.
    like in blob brush tool options (and maybe to save my own presets as well)

19. Export 3D elements with ALL of the faces separated.

    Please give us the ability to export 3D elements created in Ai with ALL of the faces separately (bevels, extrusion, front/back), so that they can be colored or textured individually. It would be very valuable and save time to have this in one app, just as is/was in Ps. thank you!

20. Start editing text hotkey

    Whenever I want to edit a text, I have to pick a Text tool an click it, or double-click it with a Selection tool. Why would I need to click a text which is already selected?

    Please, make Ctrl+Enter start editing selected text, as PS does now. If several text objects are selected, use topmost, or closest to the screen's center or cursor or give people an option to choose.
