  2. Curvature Combs and Tunni lines

Two ideas, both aimed at creating smoother curves:

    1. curvature combs:
an additional visual aid that could be enabled/disabled via hotkey or option on a panel that assists the artist/user in evaluating whether a curve is continuously smooth, or whether it needs adjustment. See this blog for a quick coded breakdown:
      https://observablehq.com/@jrus/curvature-comb
see this webpage for more traditional curvature combs with lines perpendicular to the curved path, in proportion to the path's curvature at that point:
      http://www.bluesmith.co.uk/evaluateComb.htm

    2. Tunni lines:
an additional assist/handle for helping a user more precisely adjust a curve (or multiple curves), both symmetrically and asymmetrically.
      See this example…

  3. Add and remove Hunspell dictionaries in different languages as in InDesign - PLEASE...

Please add support for Hunspell dictionaries in Illustrator. Users from countries which languages aren't supported feel discriminated, because we pay the same price for the software as the others.

  4. Touch Type improvements

Touch Type is a nice tool that is still unfinished.
    - Can’t select several glyphs at once (not by Shift+clicking, not with a marquee)
    - Can’t constrain rotations to 45° by holding Shift
    - Can’t constrain movements to axes by holding Shift
    - Can’t select a glyph when it’s even partially obscured by another one next to it
    - Can’t reset selection to original states via on-screen controls
    - Snap to Glyphs obviously doesn’t work with it (imagine if it would have)
    - There is no way to apply changes to one glyph without shifting all glyphs to the right…

  5. Convert a Type on Path object to a Point Type text and a normal Path

If you accidently select a path with the typing tool and save it without undoing it, there's no easy way to change it back to a normal path. You have to use the direct select arrow and click on all segments of the path, then copy and paste it, then join. You cant even click and drag to select all segments. Could there be an easier way to turn this back into a normal path?

  6. Ctrl+click the swatch to mix it with the current color

There is a small thing in Corel Draw, that AI could benefit of too.
If you have an object selected and click in a different swatch with a Ctrl held, it adds a bit of clicked color to your current one, blending them.

Like if you have a yellow CMYK 0-0-100-0 and Ctrl+click in 0-100-0-0 magenta swatch, you will have 0-10-90-0, 0-19-81-0, 0-27-73-0, getting more like the clicked swatch with each click. Same in EGB Very convenient for adding color reflexes and picking a color in general.

  7. Improve Shape Builder by adapting the Corel’s Smart Fill functionality (Paint Bucket)

Whoever came up with the idea of the Shape Builder, they did utilize not that popular Live Paint in a great way. Make it even better!
Steal and add to Ai the Smart Fill from Corel Draw (see the GIF attached). You don’t have to create a live paint, you just click over the intersection, just like Shape Builder does, and you have your new shape over the original paths. Steal it and make it better — CorelDraw doesn’t understand click and drag here, and it’s less comfortable to set a color (while Ai won’t have any problem here). Like…

  8. A menu item/keystroke target to enter/exit an object's Opacity Mask.

I use a lot of opacity masks these days. It'd smooth out my workflow a lot if there was an entry in the Keyboard Shortcuts that did the same as opening up the Opacity palette far enough to see its thumbnails, and clicking on the opacity mask thumbnail.

    Detailed implementation suggestions:

    • a menu item in the Transparency palette that either reads "Enter Opacity Mask" or "Exit Opacity Mask" depending on whether or not we're currently editing an opacity mask
    • a keyboard shortcuts entry for Other Panels/Toggle Opacity Mask
    • NO DEFAULT SHORTCUT, new users would hit it by accident and then…

  9. Don't remove stroke and fill for clipping paths

Please allow paths to retain formatting when they are made into clipping paths. I see no reason, other than cruelty, to remove the stroke and fill of a path when it is made into a clipping path. If someone can rationalize a benefit for making me have to apply a stroke and fill all over again then at least make a preference for any masochists.

  10. Please allow us to apply proper strokes to clip groups: centered, inside, outside

Currently you cannot apply strokes to clip groups -- including using the "draw inside" function (see example 1). I would like to be able to apply strokes to clip groups. This might not seem like a big deal, but they also don't work when you apply a stroke to the entire layer appearance (see example two). This means I need to take multiple extra steps to outline something, which is very frustrating.

  11. Make AI remember active layer and reselect it when file is opened

I have some templates, where working layer is not topmost (others are locked and/or hidden).
But AI always set focus on the topmost one when file is loaded. So when I or other people try to edit freshly opened/created file, they have have a message about lock/visibility.
Please make AI remember what layer is active when file is saved.

  12. Cmd / Ctrl or Alt + New Fill/Stroke button in Appearance should add one below current fill/stroke

Sometimes I build appearance from top to bottom.
Right now I have to create new fill and drag it under current fill.
What if I just Ctrl or Alt + click New/Duplicate button and this will create new/copy UNDER currently selected fill/stroke/entity?

  13. Remember the 'Use Artboard' checkbox when exporting

When I export (SVGs and other formats) I have to check "Use artboard" every time... why not just remember this setting has been checked or uncheck from before

  14. Let the "." on the numeric keypad work as a decimal separator for all countries.

In Dutch, we user the comma as a decimal separator. (0,5 is how we write a half)
Lots of use use the International English keyboard, and the English versions of Adobe CC. But for some reason Illustrator refuses to recognize the "." on the numeric keypad as a separator. When I type "7,2" Illustrator show this correctly in the input fields, but when hitting enter, it makes "72", just skipping the comma.
Please make a Preference to set the "." or "," on the numpad always to act as a decimal separator.

  15. Show reference point locator in Scale/Rotate/Shear/Reflect tool dialogue

I wonder, why 'Transform each' has one, while normal transform tools haven't. This would be so useful!

    3. Align a text to something by its baseline

  17. Make ability to make warnings show in background and not in dialogue windows

Right now we can click OK/Enter every time interrupting warning dialogue pops up, or tick 'Never show again'.
I would prefer background message, same as 'Shape expanded' now appears.
For example, I use Ctrl+J combination to connect all my segments in one closed path. I can have two or more segments, and just press this combination several times to achieve my goal, rather then count how many times I should press it. But when path is finally closed, AI throws a warning at me. Usually my hands press keys one more time after that and AI beeps-blinks, which is awful…

  18. USE of .CXF FILES within adobe cc

As >cxf files will soon be the future of colour communication why do x-rite and adobe not integrate .cxf files with each other. The idea of a .cxf file is to help stabilise colour across various substrates, regardless of background hue, it allows the use of a spectrophotometer to read the colour and match it against a dE tolerance to make sure the colour is within specified range.
Hence pantone live was born as every pantone book differs in colour, however a .cxf file never changes.

So pantone want you to use pantone live, which is fine until the colour…

  19. Cmd + H should hide Illustrator on Mac

Yes, CMD-H should be standardized across all of your programs. And kindly take Freehand out of its vault, study its pen/curve tool(s), and make Illustrator's pen tool work as well as Freehand's did.

  20. Customizable zoom levels for mouse wheel zoom

The current mouse wheel zoom (ALT + wheel) only navigates between zoom presets, making it incredibly difficult to use since the scale factor only doubles/halves most of the time. This is especially true when using touch mouse wheels (e.g., Microsoft surface mouse).

A setting that switches between this mode and a finer grain zoom (e.g., +/- 10% of current, possibly user-preference defined) would make this much more useful.
