Eyedropper doesn't work on groups (Adobe Illustrator CC 2018)
When I select a group and I try to use the eyedropper tool, this seems to not work.
In the fill box in the toolbar it appears as the colour already changed, but the group still looks with the original colour.
If I ungroup the group, or if I unite the group with the pathfinder (plus cmd+8), then the eyedropper works regularly, but this is not the ideal way to work. I already contacted the support online, but the issue hasn't been sorted out properly.
I use MacOS High Sierra — Version 10.13.6

This is true. The eyedropper produces some unhelpful results with groups, or just doesn't work.
There are multiple ways to test the issue, the simplest being to make a path with a fill of one colour, then group it and apply a different coloured fill to that group. Duplicate that object, and remove the extra fill from the group. Then use the eye dropper to try and pick up the appearance from the 1st group. It'll pick up the colour of the path, hidden underneath the fill of the group, which is unhelpful.
A variation of this test is to apply an effect (eg. a 3D effect) to the group, instead of a fill. The eyedropper will ignore it entirely. Also unhelpful.
All of this is true even with the eyedropper settings correctly set.
I have the same problem still now with Illustrator 2020, HELP!!!!
Exact same problem! Only work around is to ungroup, make change, then regroup.
Same issue since I updated.
Only way to get around it is to ungroup selected objects, then it works as normal... not much use if you have a lot of separate grouped objects that need to stay in those groups.
Another Adobe bug that'll take months to resolve!
I am having the same issue. Been searching for a solution, but found nothing. It seems to be a bug that goes way back that Adobe claim they are not able to reproduce and therefore not able to make a fix for it? :(
But we are definitely not alone.
I'm working with AI CC 2020 on macOS Catalina.
My eyedropper tool is currently not able to change the color of a group. The selected swatch shows correctly in the swatch panel, but the group refuses to update to the newly selected color (example provided in attachement). If I ungroup the objects then select a new color with the eyedropper, or Direct Select > Select > Same Fill Color, the objects will change; but not when the objects are grouped together. Anyone else experiencing this issue or know a fix?
I have the same problem! I am on a Mac High Sierra (10.13.6), and this is still happening with the Illustrator 2019 (23.1.1)
I have the exact same proplem. Only when I use it on a group, It does seem to apply the stroke color/ weight, but the fill color stays the same. Once I ungroup, it goes back to its original look...
