Try: Window>Arrange>Float All in Windows

What is the deal with Adobe and this issue?! So very annoying.

Our art department team was running High Sierra when the below issue first started happening (when we first updated to Illustrator 2019, so we updated our OS to Mojave. The problem persists. When we go back to the 2018 version, the problem resolves.

We tried a clean reinstall. We used the uninstallers, deleted all preferences, restarted our systems, ran CC Cleaner and reinstalled Creative Cloud, but it didn’t resolve it. We also made sure to do the latest Illustrator 2019 update.

Throughout the work day, Illustrator (and Photoshop) will stop opening files at random times. It has happened both when other file tabs were open and right at the beginning when no other files are open. It will show the name of the file at the top of the tab, but there will be a blank gray screen. The only way around it is to quit and restart the app. We end up having to do this every couple of hours, slowing down productivity.

Sometimes it will blank out files that were already open. If they haven’t been saved and we have to quit the app, it asks us if we want to save…but we don’t know for sure whether or not we want to save it because we can’t see what it looks like. This could cause printing errors. I've seen similarly titled posts but the descriptions don't sound quite like what's happening for us.

I have the same problem. How is it that Adobe has not posted a fix on this post??

cannot open new blank document.....but can open document file

Arial Bold is not correct in illustrator. The font is not arial bold, but something else. Tried to reinstall and overwrite existence file, but still getting the same thing.

Sorry for the inconvenience caused. As this is not a generic issue , can you please share the system info file from Illustrator. Go to preferences->GPU Performance->Show system info . Copy paste the information and send it to sharewithai(at)adobe(dot)com.

When I have several files open, I can't switch tabs to another file. It gets stuck on one file, even if I click on different tabs, and eventually the screen goes grey and I can't view any open files.
The only way to fix is to close files (without being able to see them!) and restart Illustrator. Hugely inconvenient to close files without seeing them.

I just had the same problem. Managed to solve it somehow, that's how I did it:

Go to preferences - experimental feature and then in settings click 'Enable for CMYK documents'.

I have same problem, if I drag and resize the artwork window (i don't work with application frame on) it clears... no idea why. Annoying but effective

The work around of switching view to CPU preview works. But come on Adobe, fix this already!

This has happened on my MacBook Pro, old and new. I always have to drag the window to my second display to fix it. It is quite vexing.

Open a new document and copy and paste of assets over, then save it. That should solve the problem.

I have this issue I think it may have to do with computer memory. Usually if I close all the apps and restart the program I can then see my document.

This keeps happening to me also, after I updated the software. I have to switch over to GPU Preview to see my artwork. Or, copy and paste everything into a new window.
