Using Rotate / Reflect / Scale tools with Opt/Alt held doesn’t end the operation when Wacom pen gets lifted
I use illustrator CC 2017.
I use my Wacom Intuos for almost everything since it is easier and I am comfortable to it than using mouse.
I use Rotate tool to copy objects in circle with a center point (select Rotate tool, hold Alt and click to choose the center of the object) .
When I use Wacom tablet to achieve this, the Center point keeps floating with the mouse pointer. I have to use my mouse to click to set a center point.
I have used it in multiple computers and with other Wacom devices too. I am not sure if its a bug, but it would be really great if you could fix it :)
Thank you for reporting the issue. We have added the issue to our backlog.
With Best Regards,
Raghuveer Singh

Illustrator 24.0.1. WIN10. Wacom Cintiq (latest driver 6.3.38-2):
Bug persists on Rotate tool. If you want to choose another center of rotation, the center point sticks to the cursor/wacom pen. No ESC or ENTER cursor helps except clickin wild with the mouse. At some undefineable point the rotation point leaves the cursor. Otherwise you have to close the software and restart the app. You can move the point of rotation with the Mouse (which is stoopid when using a Wacom Cintiq). If you want to rotate the object with the mouse and copy it, it is just working once and not a second time (move curser to desired position, duplication-icon apears on cursor, drag, you get a copy, move the curser twice to desired position, no duplication-icon appears). You have to press CRTL-D after getting the first copy. But than you have just a fixed degree of rotation and are not free and choosing another. So, this is not working.Next thing "Free transform Tool". You can´t drag a desired object and copy it at the same time by using an alt key.
Those bugs are persisting since two years.

Illustrator 2020 still has this problem. It's been a problem for me for years. Only fix I know is to rotate with the Free Transform Tool (E) instead.

I have run into this issue many times over the years (multiple AI versions) and figured I'd add to the posts about it.
When using either the Rotate or Reflect tool, Illustrator often gets stuck. What I mean by stuck is that after trying to rotate or reflect some artwork, the Rotate or Reflect tool remains active as if you never released right click. This makes it so that every subsequent movement just rotates around the artwork as though you were still holding down right click. If you try to click elsewhere in the program, nothing happens. Clicking with a different input device such as a mouse does not remedy the issue. This locks the software up for a few minutes until eventually illustrator releases from the rotate/reflect tool and only then can you continue to work.
There is also the issue where, if you try to change the rotational axis, the center point gets stuck to the cursor and the program is stuck in a similar fashion. The light blue rotation axis is stuck to the cursor and clicking elsewhere in the program yields no response. I've stopped trying to move the rotational axis since it now seems to happen almost every time. I bring this issue up since it seems to be related.
I know one resolution that works is to disable GPU preview (Ctrl - E) but on some of my machines that makes things unworkably slow. I found this solution on various forums and it seems to fix the issue for most people.
Also, I am using wacom input devices. Others who've run into the same issue seem to be also using Wacom devices. I'm usually using a intuos or cintiq so I can't say for sure how often it happens with a mouse.
Let me know if I can provide any further clarity on the issue. Glad to help in any way possible since this issue has been causing some serious work interruptions.
Thanks illustrator team for all the bug bashing! We greatly appreciate your work.

This has plagued me for a long time and it's very frustrating! I plug a mouse in just for this operation.

This still appears to be an issue, I thought the 2020 update would have got this? Totally disrupts my workflow.

Am running AI CC 2018 on windows 10, whenever I try to rotate artwork using the rotate tool the computer freezes and I have to restart it! This sucks!
Am also using Wacom Tablet, what could be the problem?? -

I had the same issue using Illustrator 2019, but the only way that I found to stop the center point floating was to use the touch on my Intuos Pro. By the way, I have a Wacom One too, and for that was necessary to use the mouse.

When you press alt while doing a reflect, it locks up the entire UI of Illustrator and you need to restart.
Please fix this

Cannot release origin after dragging it using Rotate tool, it sticks to the mouse pointer forever till I’m forced to shut down the program.
Windows version of Illustrator. v23.0.6

Had the same issue, contacted support three times. Second time support suggested turning off the GPU check under performance properties tab; problem resolved, but another problem appeared, where the anchor point don't stick, but the whole thing still sticks and lags and freezes, when I try to shift-rotate stuff, only when using wacom. I;m with windows 10 and I think this won't happen with macOS. Zero help with support for the second issue.
Oh, and did I mention Photoshop support suggested me contacting Wacom support, which I couldn't reach - basically the axis photoshop - wacom - windows is really skewed.

I am having the same problem. It appears as though this issue was acknowledged by Adobe in April 2019...should it take this long to fix it?

Having exactly the same issue. Switching to CPU render is not an option. I have a 4k screen and using CPU results in laggy screen. When I do alt-click on any tool it takes up to 30s for the dialog box to appear when using Wacom pen. Works fine in wireframe mode or when clicking with mouse. This really needs to be fixed ASAP

This bug has been bugging me for several versions. Happens with the rotate tool and the reflect tool when making a copy.

The problem also seems to go away if you just wait for a little while outside of Illustrator. This bug (if that's what it is) makes it impossible to use the Rotate Tool with the Alt/Option key while working on a tablet. I have both a Wacom Intuos and a Huion, and it's happening with both tablets, although it's much worse with the Wacom. The Wacom exibits the same behaviour on other occasions, usually when the Alt/Option key is pressed (like for zooming) and the cursor is somewhere near an anchor point.

I also see this with simple click operations. There this very minimal lagg. I also see the CPU peak a bit than when i check Activity Monitor and check the cores using CMD + 3. Im not sure this is a wacom thing because in other version i did not have this issue. Its annoying AH this lack, complete ruins a smooth design process. Perhaps its time to shift to Afinity designer now... :(
Its not a GPU issue because its still there with GPU OFF. Its not there when using the trackpad.

Same issue, been there for a while and very frustrating, but some ease will be given from Ctrl+Y (temporary disabling the GPU) and turning it back again after the point has been set....which actually do not work any more as the AI 23 has outline gpu support... so Ctrl+E will do the job as suggested earlier.
BUT...with la
