Saving AI to EPS produces 2 EPS "clones"
Standard procedure in my Art Dept. is to save AI files as EPS when going to press. This includes outlining all fonts and embedding all images.
For at least the last several months, I've often found that when I save an AI file as an EPS, it creates two nearly identical EPS "clones"...meaning they have virtually the same file name but are slightly different in size. An example result for saving "file_name.ai" would be:
filename.eps
filename-01.eps
In all cases, the file without the "-01" would be slightly smaller in size (i.e., 4.3MB compared to 4.6MB), but aside from that they appear to be identical.
Nevertheless, this shouldn't be happening, yet I can't seem to find a solution. Your help would be appreciated. Thanks.

This absolutely is an issue. Not all of us have a great deal of cloud or hard drive storage for unnecessary, duplicate files. It takes (nominal, but additional, so every little bit adds up) time from an already very busy schedule to remove the file and rename all files that end up with -01 after them (i.e.: jpgs, pngs, gifs and so on). Please provide a solution to opting out of duplicate file saves. Especially when, if the rep on Adobe Support Community is correct, I am not using multiple artboards. I have a single artboard and am saving that single artboard often. Please also stop adding -01 to the end of exported files. It's not necessary and it's really annoying to have to go in and rename them all.

I have the same issue when saving large clipped images that are tiled for wall murals. TO avoid the rip software trying to read the entire image (including the masked portion) I move the tile into an artboard that is the same size as just the tile and save with the artboards only box checked. But I still dont understand why it makes an additional copy.

Then you save EPS file Uncheck Use Artboards

What if I need use artboards to be check. I need the whole art board to save and do not need the cropped version???

Oh, I see what's happening. "Use Artboards" exports a second file that purports to include just the artboard, which is why it is smaller (not larger). I wonder what the difference is in terms of how other software will interpret the two files.

Kindly verify once that while saving it to eps format "Use Artboards" option in bottom is unchecked.
