Transform effect and Move dialog refuse to use negative numbers
This has been a problem for a long time -- not just the current version of Illustrator. When applying a transform effect to an object and using the "move" part of the effect, negative numbers get converted to positive numbers. Occasionally I can "fool" the effect by not previewing the results but that doesn't work often. This happens whether I type in the numbers by hand or use the slider.

Do you mean Scale or Move dialog, Wes? I can see how using Reflect could help to mitigate the problem...
The core problem — did you, by any chance, swap the direction of Y axis? -
It seems to be less of a problem lately. It must have been addressed in one of the updates since I posted this. It's hard to keep track of one bug amongst the dozens and dozens that drive me crazy daily.

When I try to move objects with a dialog with picas set as a general unit, it moves fine with both positive or negative values entered...
Perhaps there must be something else except specific units?
Wes, Scott, do you have any additional info on how to reproduce it? -
This is still a major bug: the transform tools will not take a negative number. I have attached screenshots of entering the negative number and it being converted to a positive number. I really hope this gets fixed soon (but since it has been a bug for years I doubt it will be.)

This is such a bizarre bug. Sometimes the panel will come in with negative numbers already in there (based on a previous move by hand in the program?) But make any adjustment and the number turns positive. I can work around it using Reflect tool but it shouldn't require such an extra work around.

I bet you're using picas.
This bug has been driving me crazy for decades. I have reported this bug several times for years and Adobe is either unwilling to fix this bug or unable to.

It has become a real frustration when using Illustrator that I can't use negative numbers for the Transform/Move... tool or for the Transform effect. It seems like such a simple thing that I'm surprised it has not been added yet. Please address this in an upcoming update. Thank you.
