illustrator crashes when opening existing files
Adobe illustrator crashes when opening existing files. After two complete re-installations (one of which was preceded by CC Cleaner), on a new machine running MacOS Catalina, the first Illustrator startup is correct. But Illustrator quits as soon as I try to open a file, even if that file has just been saved by this version.
Other CC softwares are not affected.

Times I've had crashes on opening files it has been because of the contents of the file itself. On those occasions the problem was tracked down to assets imported from the library which were made in old (pre CS) versions of Illustrator. What makes it so problematic is that you could be working on the file perfectly hapilly for hours, with the corupt asset in there, saving away, not knowing anything was wrong. The problem only shows up once you try to re-open the file. The only solution I know of is to go back to a version of the file before the old asset was imported. It's a PITA.
We had this issue quite recently. The file was unopenable in v24, v23 and v22.

I too cannot open Illustrator CC 2020 on a Mid 2015 iMac with 32 gb Ram (4 x 8GB) Running Catalina 10.15.3
Started crashing last week - 5 - 10 times a day. Worked this morning for 1 hr. Crashed and now won't open at all. Removed and reinstalled Illustrator but no joy.
V. frustrating.

I have been having the same problems, my husband at first thought it was a lack of RAM on my computer and there for we proceeded with an upgrade and continued having problems. Did a reinstall and was greeted with not even being able to open Illustrator without it crashing

I uninstalled Illustrator 2020 and installed 2019. That worked for a few days, now it's crashing. Tried going back to 2020 and same problem. Now I can't open any Illustator files in any version. I hope Adobe responds to your post quick!!
