Align to key object automatic selection in align Panel
In the new update (24.2) I have "align to artboard" as a default but when I select multiple objects it automatically selects "align to key object" even after choosing the other multiple times. This is a new issue.

Hi Everyone,
We have fixed this bug in our latest release – v 24.2.1 which is available worldwide now. Thanks for your patience on this.
Please note that after upgrading you might still see that Align To sets itself to Align to Key Object. If you see this, please manually set the Align To to the required setting, and this reported bug will not happen again. You’ll need to this one time only.
The reason Align To might get set to Key Object after update is because Ai remembers your last Align To on subsequent launches as well. So, if your last Align To was Key Object before quitting/upgrading, after first multi-selection, it will set itself to Key Object. After you manually change it one-time, it will work fine.
You can update to the latest release using Creative Cloud desktop App: https://helpx.adobe.com/in/creative-cloud/help/creative-cloud-updates.html

New update — horizontal distribute center doesn't work, it instead performs a horizontal center align.

I have noticed in the Align panel where you enter the amount, it won't allow me to input the unit of measure. So I can put in .25, but it won't accept .25" or .25 in - the unit disappears.
Please talk with the InDesign team; it works in that application - they might have tips.. Thank you

I'm having the same problem; when I bounding-box select multiple objects, one of them is automatically highlighted as the key object. Then, clicking distribute, horizontal or vertical, it aligns on that key object instead of distributing. If you attempt to un-key the automatic key object before clicking the distribute command, it give a dialog box (screenshot) telling you that you must select a key.

I've downgraded. This is an repeat Issue, that other versions of Illustrator have had, over and over again.
Adobe said their Dedicated Engineers are working on a solution in the near future.
A truly DEDICATED engineering team should have tested the product.near future… hours, days, weeks, months, years? nobody knows.

Same problem. Constantly want to make the default Align to Selection and defaults randomly to other things but sometimes it will remember the last command too? Similarly when I use the icons to align (side, top, bottom) it does the opposite of what I want even when I choose the correct "Align To".

I too have this issue, it started after the last update. The Horizontal Distribute Center and the Vertical Distribute Center are now aligning the objects instead of distributing them. This a pretty major bug that needs to be fixed quickly. I use these features constantly. Falling back to a previous version is a temporary work around..

This is slowing me down so much. Please fix urgently! Also, there is a weird issue with the distribute tool. Not sure if the bug is related, but it's been so frustrating.

Hi team This issue I have, is it just me, what am I doing wrong?
I can’t seem to align the stroke to the outside edge of the letters.
And I can only use a single stroke, not multiple stroke on letters.
Objects accept these same commands no problem. Please advise? As this Alignments issues seem different to the one already raised.
Outside stroke does not work. -

Verify that you do not have one of the objects selected as a key object. If that's the case, all the objects will center on the key object when using 'distribute'. Your screenshot makes it look like one of them is selected as a key object (the thicker selection highlight)
As an aside, this latest update on my machine has introduced an occasional bug that causes a key object to be automatically selected when selecting multiple objects. It is very annoying.
EDIT: They're aware of the issue and working on it.

I'm having this issue as well. It's really slowing me down, as I'm doing alignments on an entire map's worth of object. Please work on a fix for it.

Same problem here. It seems to automatically select the object which is in front.
The problem exists both with the panel and the bar. -

I have a problem with the aligns tool
Since the update 24.2 the alings tool doesn't behave properly.
It aligns only with the top object which is not convenient.
I have the french version.Windows 10
