Pasting goes to the back of the layer - and not on top!!!!!
When copying an object and then pasting the new object goes to the back of the stack of objects and not to the front! Please fix and make it go to the top.

Are you sure that you have the right Draw Order mode?
It's easily changed by pressing Shift+D.
Check for three little buttons in the bottom part of the toolbox. If you have 'Draw Behind' there — change it into 'Draw Normal'
