Unable to save
This is not an idea, it is a serious bug.
Apple OS Mojave - latest version, Illustrator 2022 - latest version.
Saving doesn't happen. Clicking File>Save As and nothing happens, no dialogue pops up, nothing. Trying shortcuts on the keyboard. Same. Trying to quit the program, shows File not saved/ I click Save FIle and it does nothing. So, unless I force quit, there is no way to close the program. Illustrator seems to not initiate any action on my attempts to perform a SAVE. It is a HUGE problem for my work!
Hi ,
Thanks for reporting the issue . This issue is fixed with Mac OS 12.1 update .
Thanks & Regards,

Might have found a solution. Same thing was happening here. But as I searched for a solution I kept Illustrator open. When I went back, saving worked. My husband said maybe it has to do with syncing to the cloud. Might not be able to save/save as when sync is happening, so I shut that off and so far so good! -

That is not a solve. This is a serious bug. Ive just encountered it myself for the first item in 20 years, right when I'm saving out a file after aq major presentation with changes.
You do NOT update you OS to solve a CC problem. You guys are slipping hard.
I cn only save to the could, which is want you really want. Jumping on the data hording / AI design baandwagon. Shameless and ugly.

Hi,
It seems like the bug wasn't fixed cause I cannot save Illustartor files on my computer!
I have tried the save as and the export as and neither offers option in the original file format.
Thanks -

How to save the file so you can update Illustrator.
Find any existing ai document, duplicate it in the finder. Delete the contents. Drag-and-drop (or copy-paste) the contents of the file that won't save onto the ai file that was opened.
Save that without changing the existing name. Close it, rename it in the finder. Reopen to check it. Now, the first file that won't save can be closed without saving. Update Illustrator and all should be well. -

I'm having the same issue on mac 12.4 on a mac m1. I've seen to notice that it may be associated with google drive data connectivity, but it's only speculation.

Yes. A serious situation. Same with me for the past 10 days. Windows 10. Illustrator 26.2.1. Tried my best. Even to the point of uninstalling ALL Illustrator apps and reinstall ONLY Illustrator. Still same problem. New/blank/empty artboard OK (can save), but once texted it will hang and be non-responsive with an error message after a long long while. Thanks

Similar thing just happened to me, reopened the file I had open and without prompt it just reverted back to the state of the file from yesterday despite knowing I clicked save several times since that state! Luckily my other asset file had saved so I "only" lost about an hour of work. No file versions found from auto-saving either. ******* unbelievable, I need to revert to the untrusting, paranoid ways of working I used to have back in the days before autosave 10-15yrs ago!

I have the same issue :( How do you save the project? I've learned that if I quit the app it will be deleted, and I've been working on it for days

Yes. It’s fixed now. The loss in productivity while still paying full price is disgusting.

My Mac is 12.2.1 and I also had the same issue once in a newly created folder. I uninstalled Illustrator and reinstalled it with the latest update, didn't work. Then I saved it somewhere else and moved it to the newly created folder.

I'm having a related problem: I cannot save to an external drive. I'm using latest AI and latest macOS (12.2). I've been away from Illustrator for a while and wanted to see what things look like on my new M1 MacBook Pro. So far Photoshop looks and works well. No issues. Am on to Illustrator and am unable to save an ai file anywhere except the startup drive. Not good.

macOS Monterey v 12.0.1
iMac 27-inch 2017
Illustrator v 26.0.1
- Any file newly created or existing can only be saved to Adobe Cloud Storage and not the local computer.
- Any file newly created or existing can not "Export As".
- Both "Save As" and "Export As" options are available in the drop-down menu though nothing happens (no pop-up window) when choosing these options.
- I have tried much of what I have found online in forums.
- Force Quitting with and without sending feedback to Adobe.
- Unchecking and checking "Documents Folder" and "Downloads Folder" in Security and Privacy Settings - force quitting throughout these stages. (I do not have "Desktop Folder" as an option in these settings btw.
- Unchecking the "Full Disk Access" box to enable actions to the point above.
What did make a slight difference?
- Removing additional monitors (2 external monitors) enabled the pop-up window to show for both "Save As" and "Export As", however with no details inside - I can not do anything with the window, only escape out of it.Interestingly, I have full features and functionality for the same macOS and Illustrator versions on my Macbook Pro. So my workflow is designing on the iMac and "Export" or "Save As" from my MacBook Pro (no monitors attached) - though this is a highly cumbersome workflow considering the fees I pay for your products.
The same issues are now occurring in Acrobat Pro.
