I want this in all Adobe apps. I always use the english version of Adobe apps, but use a swedish keyboard.

There should be two language settings: One for the interface, and one for the keyboard shortcuts.

This should be under "Bugs" and not under "Feature Requests". The feature is already there, it just doesn't work since CC was introduced.

The selection tolerance setting in the preferences is actually supposed to affect handles AND points. That's how it works in CS6 and older versions. So this is clearly a bug.

Please vote for this post in the bugs section instead: https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/601447-illustrator-desktop-bugs/suggestions/39393367-selection-tolerance-setting-on-bezier-handles-has

The selection tolerance setting for handles is clearly broken. It's stuck at 1 pixel, no matter what you set it to in the preferences.
I compared with CS6 where it works fine.

Yeah, the tolerance setting doesn't work anymore. It seems to stay at 1 pixel (for the handles, it works for the anchor points) no matter what you set the tolerance to in the preferences.

Tried different tolerance settings in CS6 and it works fine. PLEASE fix this... it's extremely frustrating having to grab handles with perfect precision.

So it’s obviously not fixed, and we all know it.

While the cursor gets changes into the horizontal/vertical two-headed arrow, the center handles for the bounding box indeed don’t appear, if the width/height of the art (here just an orthogonal line) is small enough.

Please continue to share you thought, screenshots, GIFs. It’s time to re-review this again.

Still no bounding box around lines in 25.4.1. Broken.

Still an issue in 25.2. No bounding box around lines, and the centre handles on a bounding box disappear (on any object) when it's too small on the screen. You have to zoom in to get the centre handles. PLEASE fix this...

I'm using 24.0.2. There's still no bounding box around a line, made with the line tool.

I've now upgraded to 23.1 (Windows). I still don't even see a bounding box for lines. So the problem is still there.

And the problem with the missing center handle on the bounding box is still there for all types of objects and not just lines. Unless I zoom in enough. Then they appear.

The same problem has been described in this thread as well (the last post shows an example, that is not a line): https://community.adobe.com/t5/Illustrator/AI-CC-2019-Line-Handles-Missing/td-p/10142649

This is not just the case with lines. Small objects only show the corner handles for the bounding box as well. And for some reason you can only rotate when you try and grab the corner handles, not resize. Unless you zoom in until you see all bounding box handles.

    I'm using 23.0.6.

I don't even see the bounding box on lines created with the line tool. So the line tool is pretty useless at the moment.

If I use the pen tool to create a straight line (just two anchor points, at the start and end) I get a normal bounding box.

Fascinating how with every version of Illustrator, one bug is fixed and five new ones are added...

Guess I have to go back to CS6.

I am happy to share that we have fixed this bug in our latest release – 23.0.6 which is available worldwide now.

Going forward, our goal is to fix as many top User-Voice bugs as possible and as frequently as possible. Given the nature of the fixes, some of the bugs will take a longer time to fix, but we are on it.

You can update to the latest release using Creative Cloud desktop App: https://helpx.adobe.com/in/creative-cloud/help/creative-cloud-updates.html

Thank you for all the feedback. Keep it coming!

Amanda - I know it's not the same, but it's two problems that has to do with selecting objects. Two crititcal problems actually that should be top priority for Adobe, but the years go by and nothing happens.

I also can't believe how lazy the Adobe users are. There must be tens of thousands of users annoyed by these bugs and flaws but the posts on this site rarely get more than ten votes...

Now using 24.2. Still have to zoom in on small objects to be able to rotate... will this ever be fixed?

An error occurred while saving the comment
    Carl commented  ·

Still a problem in 24.1.1. But I'm not using a Wacom so my problem is the opposite when it comes to small objects, the size handle overrides the rotation handle. I have to zoom in to rotate, or switch to the rotate tool which is annoying.

And when I use the line tool I only get the rotation handle, and there's no bounding box around the line. If I expand the line to get rid of the live shape I do get a bounding box. But if I want to reset the bounding box after rotating the line a bit, it can't be done. Nothing happens when I click "Reset bounding box".

So still some issues to fix...........

You still have to zoom in to be able to rotate small objects. Doesn't have anything to do with the Wacom, though.

I have a problem that's related to this. I can't rotate small objects at all. I have to zoom in until the bounding box shows all eight handles on the bounding box. If the objects are small I only see the four corner handles on the bounding box and can't rotate it.

Just realized that my workaround in the previous post is pretty useless. You can't open the .ai files in Photoshop unless you make the file PDF compatible, and not in previous versions of Illustrator either.

You have to resave the .ai files in Illustrator CS6 if you want to keep your metadata title and save the file with PDF compability.

Adobe, how about solving stuff like this in the coming versions instead of adding new features? I'm quite sure it would be more appreciated.

    Carl commented  ·

I hate this too. This bug has made med lose countless hours over the years, when I have to reopen a ton of files and enter all the titles again...

Just did some tests and this seems to happen all the time when "Create PDF Compatible File" is checked in the save dialog box.

If you uncheck "Create PDF Compatible File" the metadata title actually stays. But only if you use "Save" when you save the document. If you use "Save as..." the metadata title will be replaced with the file name again.

So I guess the workaround at the moment is to uncheck pdf compability and never ever use "Save as...".

Changing the size of points/handles is pointless since the tolerance for handles stays at 1 pixel all the time anyway. This is a bug.

I don't know if this is the problem you have, but there's a bug/flaw with the anti alias in Illustrator. Even if two objects are lined up perfectly and there's no gap between them there will be a thin white line. If you turn off "Anti-aliased artwork" in the preferences (and turn off GPU acceleration) the white line disappears. But you get an ugly preview, of course.

The only way to avoid it is to always make sure objects are overlapping each other.

I've wanted a simple "crop everything below" feature for 13 years...

The only way to crop multiple objects at the same time (without destroying shapes and messing up gradients within the crop) is to use the "Divide objects below" which cuts through everything below like a cookie cutter. But then you have to delete everything outside your crop shape manually afterwards which can take really long time if you're working with complex shapes and a tons of objects.

"Divide objects below" also screws up gradients completely (by applying the gradients to the new shapes created) so it only works with solid fills. And it doesn't cut stroked open paths either so they have to be expanded first.

    Adobe Illustrator's Multithreading Journey Begins!

    Dear Illustrator Community,

I'm thrilled to announce that we've embarked on an exciting journey to bring multithreading capabilities to Adobe Illustrator. This significant undertaking will enhance performance and responsiveness across various aspects of the application.

While this is a complex process that will take some time to fully implement, I wanted to share our progress so far.

    Our Approach

We've strategically begun by focusing on the most computationally intensive operations—those that typically take more time and block the main thread, resulting in slower response times while you work. By moving these operations to separate threads, we aim to significantly improve your overall experience with Illustrator.

It's important to note that you may see more noticeable impact in some areas than others initially. However, we want to assure you that this is just the beginning, and we will continue this journey to bring improvements across…
