Library Organization: Sorting / Grouping / Ordering
I can't figure out a way to organize our cloud libraries. We are trying to make one library per client and having everything in chronological order can make it really hard to find icons and other elements that could be grouped by category. If we could drag them around to rearrange that would be great, if we could create little groups or folders of them like swatches that would be even better.

Option to permanently expand areas of the Properties panel
I have a lot of empty space in the new Properties panel.
Having to click the '...' every time I want to access extra options seems clunky when I have so much unused space.
In the old interface you could double-click on the top bar of a panel and it would expand to your preference and remember that expansion.
A similar option here would be welcome.-

When Gradient Tool is active, make holding Alt switch to Eyedropper tool
If we hold Alt when Gradient tool is active and there is a stop selected, we can click with Alt in Swatches to apply it to the stop (although no cursor feedback or hint signals it can be done). Besides this function, Alt+click is used for nothing...
Use it to temporarily switch to the Eyedropper tool. This is a standard approach in many apps, it’s fast to learn, and just convenient.

Allow to control font for Swatch Info objects
Well... if one wants to choose font size for text in Swatch Info objects while making one — tough luck. We can only set the color chip size.
Since Preview is completely missing now (here’s the request about it: http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/49681244), it’s hard to evaluate if text would be large enough to accompany them.
Even if you change the font size after the Swatch Info is created — won’t do, each text line is a separate type objects, their leading won’t be adjusted, the card background rectangles won’t adapt!One can think this font is based on the [Normal Paragraph…

Disable "hover scrolling to change numeric value in input fields"! At least an option to do so
it's super maddening and frustrating. I often have to use trackpad to do work and this activates so easily. Please provide an option to turn this off. Thanks

"Edit original with" option needed or ability to set a default program for Illustrator only
Clicking on "Edit original" for jpgs etc. within Illustrator opens the image in the OS default program for that file type (ie. Preview on Mac). I don't wish to change the system wide default as it isn't practical to open PS to view every jpg, but there is no option to "Edit original with…" as there is in InDesign within Illustrator. There is no work around within the program at all.
IN short: ADD AN EDIT ORIGINAL WITH MENU OPTION or allow us to set a program only default!!90 votesWe are working towards giving preference to Photoshop for editing linked images, if Ps is installed. Wait for the #Color Code to finish
I sometimes look up # Color Codes and want to type them in Illustrator. Every time I start typing and click again in another window, Illustrator just fills in the #Code with some '0' and I need to retype the code again. Why dont just let Illsutrator wait for the User to type the code completely? If the user has not typed in 6 letters, the "ok" button would be inactive until the user has finished the code.
This is very annoying because filling in the 'missing' letters may be good for the software, but is not really user friendly.1 vote -
Allow to customize grid colors, line weight, transparency
I'm a fan of grids. I use the grid almost always whenever I need one.
I have to use the default 'In Back' grid and turn 'Overprint preview' on, to make the grid overlay my art, so I can see what I'm doing and where I'm snapping (because the cursor does not give any feedback about this).
But the method it's not perfect because of bugs I reported here and there.
So I propose to improve options we have.

Display Color Mode and Resolution (PPI) for a selected image in both Info and Properties panels
Currently only the Control panel (which Ai team decided to hide for new users with their training-wheels Essentials workspace) shows a resolution and a color mode for a selected image, and Links (but only when expanded, which again is not the default).
Properties shows nothing, despite the name.
Same goes for Info panel.

Please make the Preview option sticky
Just about everything you do in Illustrator to the drawing cannot be seen until you turn on Preview. Unfortunately the Preview option cannot be set to ON or Sticky from last use. I am aware that way back in the 80s this was done because the computing power was not strong enough to deal with drop shadows but this is now not the case. I am also aware that very very complex drawings can also be affected by having the Preview on but I very seldom do complex drawings. All the effect checkboxes have now been set to ON by default, and are sticky (meaning that if you disable preview, on next launch of Illustrator preview will remain disabled). This functionality now is available in our latest release build – 24.1.1 for Win and 24.1 for Mac which is available worldwide now.
We are working on making all remaining preview check-boxes sticky. Will update this thread when done!

Make scrollbars higher contrast or allow customizable colors for them
The gray on gray scheme of the slider and handle in the scrollbars is extremely difficult to work with. Higher contrast is needed or provide the ability to customize the slider color. This is an accessibility issue for older or visually impaired users!

Make an option for the Bounding box to hug text tightly
For the love of God, please make an option for the bounding box around text to only bound to the visible text. When I'm aligning text, either visually or by inputting numbers in the transform panel, I absolutely do not care about invisible space, what I want is what I can see to be centered or aligned. Snap to Stroke width option
The addition of the snap-to-glyph functionality that was added to the type tool recently, it could be useful to have the option to snap to the outside width of a stroke (i.e. the where the path would be if a stroke were expanded into a shape), perhaps with a zoom or stroke size threshold to prevent mis-snapping at broader scale.
This could be particularly useful when try to align an object to a path with either a variable width stroke or multiple strokes applied. It would also allow for more precise alignment to the end of open paths that have…

RAL Swatch Library
RAL Swatch library. We don’t need this for print or screen, but it is necessary to mark a plastic or metal with RAL colour when documentation is sent to manufacturing. Do something about it.

The ability to select a vertical row within text to change colors or style.
We design a lot of restaurant menus, brochures, TV menus, and currently to make the items and prices have its own color or style, we either duplicate and erase items/prices to change color and style (bold for e.g.), or we change each line manually (which takes some time).
Wish to see this in Illustrator soon.

Ability to change canvas color
Ability to change background behind art board to any greyscale that works for old tired eyes, independent of the interface setting. I prefer a dark interface with a white art board but a light gray background.

Allow to see and edit colors in a selection, just like with Selection Colors in Figma
Figma displays a full list of colors used in a selected art in its right sidebar: https://help.figma.com/hc/en-us/articles/360042553434-View-and-adjust-colors-in-a-mixed-selection
It allows quickly evaluate the selection, edit colors right there, even swap — without the need of using bulky Recolor. Illustrator can't offer the same quick tool, neither in Color panel nor with the Properties.
