  1. The new button layout

I have found that the new button layout is not intuitive. I understand from talking with support that this is supposed to help new users. I don't think the extra steps to use certain functions is helpful, especially if you are coming from applications where all the buttons are readily available in the sidebar. Perhaps using a search bar mixed with the old layout style would be helpful. New users could search for their tool, while old users could access the tool they need more quickly. Perhaps also merging the top tool bar style and functionality…

  2. Add ability to sort or reorder Objects on Path

Love the align to path tool. It has made things so much easier.

One suggestion, however, would be to rearrange the order of elements you aligned. Ideally, you would allow us to sort elements and give certain properties like HUE, Transparency, Size, Rotation, and then we could easily make things like fading shapes to signify movement or just by size where the bigger things were aligned at the end.

You could even make a series of tools like the Symbol Sprayer tools that let you manipulate the pieces on the path by spreading in areas and shrinking areas.…

  3. Embed as attachment a DXF version of the illustration in the Export as PDF option

Most often when designing files for logo or marquing tools we need to export a viewable PDF version and e CAD file as DXF.
In order to keep them synced, it's convenient to attach the DXF as an attachment in the PDF.

Could it be possible to impement this workflow in Illustrator? either in the "Export PDF" option or via a script/action command?

    Many Thanks

  4. Add option to Import DXF tool

    Hello,
I have some request about the Import DXF feature.
When opening a dxf file, the window ask if we want to scale the file to the artwork, but not the opposite.
When opening a file at scale 1:1, it could be valuable to set the size of the artboard to the limits of the dxf file, as you have to do manually (most often) after you open it.
It could also be cool to have a window showing the list of layers in the file and give the option to make a selection of those you want to import…

  5. Staggering Saves

I would like to be able to run multiple saves on a file without waiting for the first save to finish. For example while it is saving the .ai file I would like to also save a PDF immediately after. The software in the background wouldn't halt me interrupting my workflow but instead hold the second save in the background and run it once the first save finished. Prior to CC this was something I did a lot and competitors software as well as your own media encoder for Video apps have this function.

  6. Straight lines with Blob brush, like in Photoshop (Shift + click end point)

If only I could draw a straight line (not only 45 or 90 degrees), by holding shift + clicking the desired end point of the line, LIKE IN PHOTOSHOP, I am working with the blob brush tool (the most useful tool for me) and a Wacom tablet.
Use the line tool you say, NO THANKS, I need to stay with the blob brush tool
to work intuitively, PLEASE, this is actually a major limitation, why would we only want straight lines at 45 or 90 degrees? .... PLEASE check it out out, it really is essential!

  7. Allow to customize colors for handle controls, anchors, and paths edges (permanently and context-based / on the fly)

It would be helpful if you could make the color of pen tool handles distinguishable from the anchor color, even just a slight difference would be helpful.

  8. Shift key to draw lines by understanding the direction I want it to go

I have used AI for 20+ years and a lot of little things could use improving.

One of them is the shift-line coding that makes a straight line when you hold the shift key down. More times than not, the line is drawn in a direction I did not intend and I have to keep redoing. I am assuming that the software registers the first micro millimeters of a direction I am going in instead of understanding that 99.9999% of the momentum of my cursor is in a DIFFERENT direction.

  9. Snapping unexpectedly disabled when drawing to an Artboard edge

When using the rectangle tool or other drawing tools, you can snap to the edge of an artboard, but you cannot snap to grid lines that intersect with the artboard edge.

This makes things complicated if you are designing relative to the artboard all the time with Snap to Grid or Snap to Pixel enabled. I have to workaround it, snapping inside or outside the artboard edge first, then moving the point an exact increment to match where the artboard edge and grid line intersect.

Notice that in my screen recording, this happens even at the beginning when I…

  10. a way to nest objects on art board for sign makers

Idea: Take multiple objects, such as multiple copies of a logo or elements and nesting them within the artboard and a feature to say how much space you want between each object.

Reason: When it comes to signs or sending a print job to a plotter. Sign makers want to maximize the number of objects on a vinyl. Sure we can manually move objects or even use the distribute tool. but this takes to long and sometimes when selecting multiple objects you can not use the distribution tool to distribute both vertical and horizontal at the same time or objects…

  12. Make fractal noise gradient

One of my favorite gradient types from the time of Xara was 'Fractal Nosie' and 'Fractal Plasma'. No fine-tuning, but pretty handy for adding quick perturbance, especially when used as a transparency mask.

    It’s still there.
Today, VectorStyler app offers a similar gradient type: https://www.vectorstyler.com/documentation/gradients/

We can do something similar using freeform gradient in Ai... but try to scale or rotate control points all at once, I dare you.

Also please take a look at this related request:
    Make conical gradient

  13. Make keyboard shortcuts work for different input languages

I'd love to see an update that lets me use the same physical keys for shortcuts while I have a different keyboard than English selected.

For example, the backslash key () is used for the line tool. But when switching to German, the same physical key returns (#) and in Romanian we have a (â).

I wish that all shortcuts activated by the press of the physical keys work as intended in the interface regardless of the language currently active so I don't have to switch so much between languages just to have my shortcuts work again.

    This…

  14. Library disappear glitch

Had this issue in the past and it still comes up. Libraries disappear from my workspace when I click tab or some combination of keys that I'm not sure of. Before, I used to have to shut down Ai altogether but at least now I can go to the drop down menu to retrieve them. This shouldn't happen in the first place though.

  15. Gradient annotator as a palette and snap to gradient points

Allows you to then retain the annotator when dragging guides or other objects, and using other tools. Could work in a similar way to the Tabs palette.

Also it would be really useful if you could snap objects or guides to the gradient points on the sliders.

  16. Line extension pop up tool tip

Please fix the smart guide's line extension tool tip when moving points if you are zoomed in. It currently snaps to the opposite end of the line, meaning if you are zoomed in (which you almost have to be because the tool is so finnicky to get it to snap correctly), you have no idea if you are extending the line correctly. A good fix would be to put that dialog closer to the point, if not on the point you are dragging out to extend, vs. the opposite end of the line.

  17. Better reflect tool functionality with option to add multiple instances similar to Macromedia Freehand.

Illustrator needs a better reflect tool that can add multiple instances. The way Freehand's reflect/rotate tool worked was IMO optional because it gave a live preview of the outcome and worked intuitively.

I know that similar thing can be done in effects -> transform, but you need many more steps to achieve the same result, often not knowing what to expect visually before you get the result.

  18. Similar to Flux Eyedropper Tool Plugin for Adobe InDesign

A tool like Flux Eyedropper Tool for Illustrator would be a game change for faster workflow. I use this for Indesign it's a serious game changer.

    https://www.fluxconsulting.com/software/

    Instructions and user flow:
    1. Hold down the Control + Option keys, then release the Control key.
    2. Use the Eyedropper tool as you wish.
    3. Release the Option key to return to the tool you were using.

  19. USE of .CXF FILES within adobe cc

As >cxf files will soon be the future of colour communication why do x-rite and adobe not integrate .cxf files with each other. The idea of a .cxf file is to help stabilise colour across various substrates, regardless of background hue, it allows the use of a spectrophotometer to read the colour and match it against a dE tolerance to make sure the colour is within specified range.
Hence pantone live was born as every pantone book differs in colour, however a .cxf file never changes.

So pantone want you to use pantone live, which is fine until…

  20. Increase size of anchor points / handles for curvature tool

anchor points / handles for curvature tool is too small for me. It would be better if I can change size like pen tool anchor points / handles size
