  1. Tools to edit paths to make straight lines, sharp corners, and smooth curves for faster vector trace clean up

    Attached are three tool examples I would like implemented into Illustrator to speed up the process of cleaning up vector paths. A lot of times when you do a vector trace the corners of text or objects will not have a sharp point or areas with straight lines will become jagged or distorted. To clean these areas up requires a lot of single clicks on points and anchor points to get the right result.   2. Opentype + Glyphs UI Menu Preview

    While the UI for Opentype is appreciably better than Indesign, there are still a few hinderances in the UI that make it painfully difficult to use and limits functionality. This could solved in one (hopefully easy) solution: PREVIEW TYPOGRAPHIC FEATURES

    THE PROBLEM:
    Currently, you have to click the stylistic set to open a dropdown menu, once you’ve clicked a style, the dropdown disappears. To see another style you need to open the dropdown menu again and deselect the previous style you just selected. Open the dropdown menu again, and then select the next style.

  3. Please Warn when saving working file to PDF without AI edibility

    I was working on a file for half the day - making layers, groups and text styles. I had it all the way I wanted it, ready to add some translated text tomorrow. I saved and closed, not realizing that the original file I opened was a PDF that had be saved without Illustrator editing.
    The result was that everything was collected into one layer with nested clipping paths, and all my carefully formatted text was broken apart. (a few random lines were even converted to outlines)

  4. Export for screens missing modern features in order to be useful for responsive images on the web in 2022

    It's 2022 and responsive images on the web are well supported across all browsers.

    Export for Screens is close to being a good tool for this, but missing out on a few smaller but critical needs for modern responsive web (by priority):
    1. Customize ppi in combination with width / height / scale Formats exports
    2. Support for moderne formats: webp, avif and near future jpegXL

    And not really a export only feature, but:
    3. Be able to override antialiasing export settings per layer so text and artwork can be applied different antialiasing during export

  5. Selection and zoom marquees should be able to be displayed orthogonally when a view is rotated

    When dragging out a selection marquee on a rotated canvas with either of the Selection tools, the marquee is drawn aligned to the canvas instead of the screen.

    The actual selection seems to be done in screen space - see the two attached screenshots, where my marquee was dragged from the lower left point of the marquee to the upper right, resulting in a displayed marquee that would select the sketch of hair above the eye, and an actual selection that only contains parts of the paths in the eye.

  6. Separate "Random" checkboxes for every parameter of the transform each command and effect.

    Seperate "Random" checkboxes for every parameter of the "Transform Each" command and effect.

    This would allow the user, in one step, to randomize only the selected parameter, (say the vertical scale) but still transform the other parameters (maybe rotation and number of copies) uniformly.

  7. Adaptive Shapes

    Adaptive shapes would be shapes that can change size according to the amount of text inside of them.

    It makes having a highlighted text effect a lot easier. A rectangle with text inside it can stretch as you add more words.

    Maybe a bit harder but it’d be cool if it can be applied to more complex shapes like a speech bubble shape, while retaining the ability to customize the notch and corner radius.

    Doing any of this precisely and manually is not easy

  8. Thumbnail preview required when selecting an object from multiple objects overlapping each other in illustrator

    I am having a trouble when selecting an object from multiple objects. I think, there should have some thumbnail and object preview option when we right the objects and try to select any object. I attached the image see the red arrow mentioned text.

    the new text to vector tool is amazing, especially the match to artboard/ stylepicker functionality.

    Now I would like to import a photo to the artboard of an existing Illustration and trace it in the same style/simplification of this already existing vector file.

  11. Please add automated color bar, separation color information - Print PDF output

    Hi! I am missing a choice in PDF save or export. In the print industry is needed to add colour information for the customer, what colours is the artwork made from - esp. when we use solid colours. Customers need this for the approval process so we have to add this colour-bar manually. In the PDF (composite PDF) window there are Marks and Bleed choices, but there is missing a choice to choose a colour information automatically generated from the document colours - separations.   12. First character only find and replace

    Find and replace should have the ability to only "find/replace" items that are at the beginning of a text string. e.g. if there are 50 building labels on a map that all start with 0, and one wanted to remove all those zeros... There is currently no easy way to do that and "replace all." Or if one wanted to remove "the" from the beginning of every title but not when it's in the middle of a sentence... etc.

  13. Export multiple Illustrator layers into Photoshop's PATH Palette, as multiple PATH layers, in one command

    Instead of the current and ONLY way to bring a path from Illustrator to Photoshop (copy the layer in IL and paste it in PS, one by tedious one), how about an EXPORT IL LAYERS to PATHS PALETTE IN PS option in the dropdown? Or, if you can't do that, how about adding an option to save an IL file with a 'new' file extension (.pal?) which would open in PS with ALL the Illustrator layers intact, separate and distinct, AND STILL ALIGNED WITH EACH OTHER, in the Photoshop Paths Palette?

  14. Clip to key object

    Illustrator allows to set a key object in a selection with a click. The object gets thick edge and can be used for aligning and distributing operation, to stay in place.

    This simple way of marking an object is used only for these, and it’s a waste.
    We need to be able to use key objects for other operations as well.

    For example, why not allow users to clip into the key object, if it’s set? Currently we would have to move it above other objects in a selection, reselect them together, and hope we didn’t mess it up...…

  15. In actions, ability to copy a dimension from transform window and paste in a move command

    In actions, the ability to copy a horizontal or vertical dimension from the transform palette so that it can be pasted in another command (usually move).
    For example, I'd like to be able (in an action) to copy the height of a selected object, then paste that elsewhere, such as move that distance, or create a rectangle with that measurement as one of the dimensions.

  17. Make USEFUL hover hints for ALL the options, fields, menu commands

    Clearly the team doesn’t really care about making hover hints to be a learning tool.

    Rarely these actually try to say what an option or a field does or controls: like 'Start editing similar shapes together' for the 'Global Edit' button in the Control panel, or 'Click to pick arrowhead to apply to start point of path' in Stroke panel...

    But in most cases the hint is extremely rudimentary.
    Try to hover the 'W' field in Transform panel — you’d get 'W value'. W?! Weight? Wand? Why not say 'Width Value', or even 'Set Width for the selected objects'?

  18. Allow to use custom user templates for Swatch Info objects

    Swatch Info is OK (if completed!), but there is not enough customization currently.
    Take a look what an awesome ColorList script by Katja Bjerrum offers: https://productivista.com/make-a-list-of-colors-from-your-selection/ — we can set our own shapes before making a color legend.
    We could have done it semi-automatically after creating a Swatch Info, with Global Edit, to replace all chips with a custom shape... but for some reason these rectangles are immune to Global Edit (as it often happens, new features get loosely integrated with existing functions...)

  19. Dimensions, auto select after creation

    I find that i am always needing to change the defaults when using the Dimension tool, as frames of reference change from project to project.

    I have started to develop a workflow where I'll just select the created dimension to adjust the text and line in Properties panel.

    What would be more useful would be if the dimension was automatically selected after created, same behavior as most tools in Ai have, like crating a shape or a text.

    The tool does not seem to pay any attention to what is selected when you are creating measurements, but if there…

  20. Update links manually

    Illustrator is constantly reading linked files, checking for changes. This is normally not a problem, but when the network is slow for any reason (like if you're working remotely over VPN) AI becomes unusable. Simple text changes become an ordeal as every time you switch tools or click anywhere, you have to wait for a minute or two as the links do... whatever they're doing. A simple panel-level option to turn off automatic link updates would make working remotely (which some say is the way of the future) much less painful.
